TLDR: We're sharing the list of champions receiving Prestige Edition skins through the end of the year. We're working on stuff that'll cost fewer than 100 Prestige Points. All Event Prestige skins released in 2020 will be available for Prestige Points at the end of next year.

Hey everyone! It's been a few months since we've shared an update on Prestige. Since then, we've been keeping an eye (ear?) out for more ways to make the system better for you. Here are some of the most common questions we've heard, and what we're doing about them.


I don’t know if my champ is getting a Prestige skin this year, which makes it hard to tell what I should spend my event tokens / Prestige Points on.

We agree that you should be able to use your event tokens and Prestige Points with confidence that you're unlocking the skin you'll enjoy most, so here's more information on all of the Prestige skins that'll be coming out throughout the rest of 2019. No spoilers on as-of-yet-unrevealed thematics, but...

If I end 2019 with fewer than 100 Prestige Points, what can I do with them?

Not all players will end the year with 100 Prestige Points and we want to make sure that everyone can get as much value as possible regardless of their Prestige Point totals. We're working on new Prestige Point content for lower point costs, similar to the stuff you see in event shops. Here's our current plan for what those options will be:

  • PROJECT 2019 Jackpot Bag - 50 PP
    • Contains 3 skin shards of the same tier (750 RP, 975 RP, 1350 RP, or 1820 RP) and 1050 Orange Essence
  • Revel Grab Bag - 50PP
    • Contains a 520 RP skin shard, 750 RP skin shard, 975 RP skin shard, 1350 RP skin shard, and 1820 RP skin shard
  • Arcade 2019 Jackpot Bag - 50PP
    • Contains 3 legacy skin shards (one guaranteed 975 RP or higher) and 1520 Orange Essence
  • Exclusive Animated Emote - 25 PP
  • Exclusive Ward Skin - 15 PP
  • Exclusive Icon - 10 PP
  • Event Icons from past 100 Prestige Point bundles - 5 PP
  • Hextech Key - 3 PP
  • 30 Orange Essence - 1 PP

Reminder that any points you don't spend will go away when Prestige Points reset on January 31, 2020 at 11:59 PM PT.

Why can't I use Prestige Points to purchase Event Prestige skins?

We've seen a lot of confusion around why Prestige Points can’t be used to purchase Event Prestige skins. Some players come back to League and learn they missed out on an Event Prestige skin for their main. Others accumulate lots of Prestige Points but prefer event token skins to Prestige Point options. Here's our plan for addressing this in 2020. Let us know what you think:

  • At the end of next year, all 2020 Event Prestige skins released through Worlds 2020 will be temporarily available for 100 Prestige Points each.
    • We're recognizing players who were there for 2020 events by reserving the Prestige border for Event Prestige unlocks made during events with event tokens. These players will also get an exclusive icon.
    • Crafting an Event Prestige skin with Prestige Points at the end of the year will not award the border or icon.
    • Similarly, getting a 2020 Prestige skin by re-rolling three skin shards or upgrading a lucky skin shard drop from Hextech Crafting will not award the border or icon.
  • Unlocking Prestige Point skins with Prestige Points will still grant a Prestige border. They'll also grant an exclusive icon.
    • Same rules apply here: re-rolling or getting a drop via Hextech Crafting will not award the border or icon.
  • All Prestige skins released before 2020 will still include their border if obtained via re-roll or Hextech Crafting drop.
  • In January 2021 when 2020 Prestige Points expire and the 2020 Prestige skins leave the Prestige Point shop, all 2020 Prestige skins will become permanently unobtainable outside of Hextech Crafting drops or re-rolls.

These changes won't retroactively apply to Event Prestige skins released during 2018 and 2019. Players who unlocked those skins did so with the expectation that event tokens would be the only way to get them, and we wanted to respect those players' investments.

Downvote me at your leisure but it's stupid that this change won't apply retroactively. I worked a full time job during the arcade event and now I have anywher from 6-12+ hours of college a day and 5 hours of work per day. I don't have the time to physically play the game so I couldn't get prestige Caitlyn, but I would have gladly paid for the skin. If she was in the prestige shop I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I understand others worked for the skin, but some of us who wanted the skin would have gladly worked for it, but had an actual life that kept us away from it.

Prestige Caitlyn was an event skin. You had to buy the pass and get the tokens. Which I would have done if I wasn't working 45+ hours every week to try and scrounge up money to pay for my classes. If I had the time to grind for the tokens I most certainly would have. But I didn't, and I would have given my account info to a friend who did, but last friend I gave my account info to ended up buying Yasuo and Aatrox and wasted all my BE so I had to hop back on the grind for Kai'sa.

My point is that I understand people worked for these skins under the assumption that this was the only way to get them, but why should that matter? They got it earlier than anyone else and they got a border to flavor it up with. Yes they worked for it but they chose to do that and it's amazing that they had the liberty to do so. Other people who wanted those skins have more in their life than just this game and it feels like a spit in the face to essentially be told to fuck off bc I wasn't available at the right time.

As far as I know. It is banneable in the notion that borrowing accounts is used to elo boost; which clearly he did not do.

It's actually far worse than just interference with the MMR system. That's a big problem, but not the main reason most companies prohibit account sharing. It's a security breach. People put trust in their "friends" by sharing their info, but often that trust is by merit of being on their friend lists in the first place. If an impostor is on your friend's account and gets your info, your login is now in the hands of someone you don't trust. The intruder can now use your account to attempt to "borrow" logins from other people on your friend list. It's a form of stepping stone attack. With the exception of large scale database attacks, most "hacked" accounts are the result of social engineering, not skilled cracking.

Stolen accounts then create a whole financial mess when people dispute purchases and insist on refunds. Investigating fraud can be iffy and a waste of resources, so often the simplest and most efficient response is enforcing the prohibition on shared accounts. Riot does allow people to try and prove their accounts were originally theirs when stolen, but it's not a 100% successful process and players have complained about losing their accounts despite providing answers.

I'm not just speculating that companies do this. I've had to permaban accounts in two separate MMOs simply for people sharing accounts because the administrator ordered it.

you realize that you are upset because you decided to put other things in your life over this one skin in a game. you could've made the time to do this over other things but you chose not to because you believed the other things to be more important. you weighed the costs and benefits and found that this skin was less beneficial to you. you made the decision and now you want to be upset at riot for your own decision

Your comment actually heavily supports his argument. If a system that you're already paying into also requires you to forego things like your job or schooling in order to receive the rewards, then it's a pretty flawed system. I could understand if it was free like normal missions, but if you're paying for it, the time requirement shouldn't be overly substantial

You actually can pay for the skins. It’s expensive but buying loot bundles gives you event tokens, so you could farm as much as you can and buy the rest of the tokens. But it is pretty expensive.

I totally agree with you when I seen they were doing this for the 2020 skins I got so excited they would do it at the end of this year. I wanted the prestige Lux skin so bad but like you I just did not have nearly enough time to do so and missed my opportunity. I have been saving up my PP in hopes they would allow us to purchase previous event prestige skins but sadly I suppose it has been in vein. Quite disappointing actually 😔

...but people rerolling or getting lucky with a chest will still get the tiny prestige “borders” for pre-2020 prestige skins according to this post. :/

Also most of the people making these comments are only ok with it because they missed a prestige skin they wanted and would still like to get it.

I’m all for making event prestige skins available to people who want them by incorporating prestige points or whatever but I’m going to be hella pissed if I grinded SO HARD to get KDA Kai’Sa and Akali around Worlds last year (along with other worlds items) if there was simply no need for me to. It was also made extremely clear that they would NOT be available for purchase again hence why they were “Prestige” and akin to the rarest league skins. We were under the impression that event tokens were going to be the only way to unlock them and at the time it wasn’t even known if prestige skins would be craft-able or in rerolls. So essentially people who actually grinded and spent time they didn’t have (sorry people who were busy still managed)... did it for nothing and these “”prestige”” skins have not one identifying feature that commemorates that tremendous effort or alluded to their “rarity” or value because they can just be rerolled smh. If you were one of those people you would feel the same.

If they were to bring those old Prestige skins back, they should give people who got them during the event a new border at the very least (only thing I got besides the Kai’Sa Skin was this icon for completing a ton of worlds missions). Even if they don’t bring them back, nobody rerolling them post-event should be getting a border.

I knew when this scheme was released that eventually they would go back on their word and simply make these “rare” “one-time-only” skins available again if people were willing to pay enough. They do it with everything else in game like legacy skins and event chromas. It ultimately dilutes the “prestige” nature of the skins and snuffs the people who busted their asses for them under false pretenses.

In short, the original event prestige skins really shouldn’t come back (or even be rollable imo) but if they did at least throw some of us a freaking bone... and distinguish them for our efforts. It’s the right thing to do.

At this point green chromas are the only remotely “rare” thing you can attempt getting anymore... and getting them from the LPP is tougher than winning the lottery. :]

Also Riot please add more things to the prestige point shop I’m probably going to have a bunch leftover and the bundles aren’t very special. :/

Your personal greed, wanting to keep people from enjoying something just because they didn't do exactly what you did at the time, is hardly a good reason to remove content forever.

This attitude has never made sense to me. You have played with your KDA Kai'sa skin for a YEAR when others could not. How is that not worth it?

Do you cry like a little baby when you buy a movie or game at full price on launch day, and then a year later it goes on clearance? No? Interesting, that.

Since the skins WERE available for money as well during the event, it's not lessening the value of the effort. What's the point of keeping unfortunate people from still spending money/points at the end of the year to get another chance. It's not like you're putting it in the shop forever...

(I say money/points, because you can buy the points with money)

exactly!! they're pandering to this small demographic of event prestige skin owners that'll baby rage if their limited time skins will be available for purchase at a later date like,,,?? i own both prestige project irelia & k/da akali & would not care in the slightest if more people had the skins, they're both wonderful. i myself also want to be able to buy prestige lux, even if it's a higher price point.

  • like another comment said, they were already available for money so it's not like the authenticity would be ruined. all this is 'preserving' is basically proof that you were there for the event & i'm sure that the people that DO want that exclusivity are few & far between.... what's really the issue here, riot? same ordeal with sg xayah & rakan's light forms... you have these people willing to throw however many dollars necessary to get what they want & riot favors the minority for absolutely whatever unknown reason?? what i will say, though, is that i'm glad they're doing it at all, even if not going into effect for this year's skins

So, let me see if I'm understanding this right; you can now waste your Prestige Points on things you could have normally bought from the shop anyways for overpriced considering buying a capsule is like, $5 but getting enough PP for that same capsule is probably closer to $15.

Not only that but apparently you're just boned if you choose not to spend your PP cause they just go away next year? Who thought it was a good idea to let people spend money on something they can't even stock up on until a champion they do like has a Prestige skin available to them? "Man, I sure am glad I got 100 Prestige points, but man, I have nothing to use them on, so I guess I have to just watch them disappear and spend a ridiculous amount of money to get 100 more on the off chance a champion I enjoy get's a skin I want next year." Yes, that makes sense; GJ Rito, real impressed by this one.

you can buy a skin for a champ you don't want, you can buy icons, emotes, hextech keys, Orange essence etc, not the best rewards but if you just let them expire that is 100% on you.

Even as someone who's grinded tokens for multiple events, I have no issue with people being able to buy prestige skins for events they missed or simply didn't have the time to invest into. This is especially the case if the person missed an event for their main champion and then either paid or grinded for 100 prestige tokens in the hopes of being able to buy the skin at the end of the year. It's a terrible decision to not apply these changes retroactively.

So, lets employ the logic here, say I wanted prestige Irelia, I ground for tokens at an earlier event because I was going to be unable to play during the Irelia event, so now I have 100 tokens that I don't want to spend on getting 6 skin SHARDS for champions I probably don't even play, so because they are also expiring I can either choose that or just to not use my points and they expire, this is greedy and stupid, why should my grinding a different event make it so I can't access the other event skins? I wanted the Akali one, I ground out the prestige points for it, but now I guess the only way to get it is by buying more of the lootboxes and hoping against hope that I roll it with no other way to achieve it, at least the hextech skins have a way to unlock through grinding, this is just terrible to fans of the game who can't pour every second of their time into it

I think their system here is fair for once. For each skin, they specified how you'd be able to obtain it. They stated token skins would be specific to their events. They did specify the process for getting Irelia in advance, that she would be for tokens and not prestige points. To go back on their statement that the 2018/2019 token skins were specific to their events and bring them back at the end of the year would be discouraging and dishonest towards the people who grinded the specific events thinking this would be the one time you were able to get the skin. That would be super unfair imo.

However, they're changing it going forward, in a manner to satisfy both parties. I think how they handled it was fine.

I mean, they stated at their time of release they'd be available in loot boxes, which requires you being extremely lucky, as are like gemstone and ultimate skins from loot boxes. That's fine. My point is, they stated the event tokens would be the only sure-fire way to get the skin.

Love seeing updates to the prestige system, particularly giving players options to reclaim missed events.

However, being among the high spender skin collectors (own all skins) having one of the only advantages being stripped away [fully unlocked prestige skins off of 3x reroll] feels awful.

Skins released in 2018/2019 will not be effected by anything that is said here. So, if people were hoping for say Kai'sa or Akali to return to the Prestige Store, they are out of luck. Even though back when it was leaked they were going to re-release those skins in the store it seemed but they have changed their plans.

Just like they appear to want people to earn the skins through the events or store in 2020 in order to gain the borders and icons. So if you reroll prestige skins in 2020 you will not get a border/icon for them (but you still can for the 2019 skins)

This. It feels like a slap in the face to have gotten all skins to avoid having to buy full price prestige skins (which enables us to spend money elsewhere in passes, wards, borders, chromas, etc.) just to be punished and having the prestige borders (and now icons) taken away. Why are we as big spenders constantly losing value?

I've already commented on this earlier, but I just want to add in that while I grinded for one of the prestige skins, my friend just used all their money to get it. I was not upset over that at all. We both get to enjoy the skin and that's all that matters. Being one who did work hard for it, you feel more satisfied, but that's the point. People can either buy their way through or actually work for it this is how life is all the time. Also being titled "prestige" should not mean limited in my opinion. I think they should be available any time for anyone who wants to work for them. If they were going to be event specific skins they should not have called them that. Using the title "prestige" made not only me but other people think they would not be just gone after that one event, if you even want to call these "events" which in that case I say rereleasing the skins does no harm and it does not lose their specialty/rarity especially since you say it will be changed in the future anyway.

If these were more actual events to participate I can see why people would be upset with them rereleasing, however just doing missions does not seem like an event to me personally. As stated I do not think they should be labelled as prestige either. I do understand they specifically said they would only be obtainable by tokens, but things can change. Prestige is still fairly new.

I also get people are angry knowing they would have spent their tokens on other stuff, but at least for me the skin is the most worth in the whole thing and most of the other stuff in the shop the only other thing I would like personally is the special chroma which is not that much along with an emote. As a suggestion, maybe these could be added to the prestige store at the end of this year to make up for it.

I really hope Riot takes a look at all this feedback and makes everyone (or at least almost) happy. One thing I love about Riot is they do consider feedback from fans of the game and it's why I continue to support them. They posted this in response on our opinion on the current prestige situation, so hopefully they consider our responses to this as a moving point.

Mistakes were made, but that does not mean we can not fix them for the better future for the game, the company, and it's peers.

I remember Snow Day Bard's release, when Riot said they weren't going to make a champion's first post-release skin Legacy availability; so even though he even shares a Splash with SD Gnar/Syndra, his skin is perpetually available.

Meanwhile, Count Choc-kledula... RIP I guess

What about recognizing the current playerbase and not the future, expected, playerbase ?

Until then and regarding the skins of 2019 that are not in the shop, these prestige points serves no purpose, it should be possible to use these prestige points to buy the prestige skins from events, during the events. Now the only thing we have are "Event" Skins that are using the prestige label but that you cannot buy through prestige points. Why not call these skins what they are, Limited time Skins, Event skins, Grind Skins, not prestige skins.

I guess I should have never expected these "prestige skins" to be available for a limited time in this "prestige shop". It could be as simple as having the skin put in the prestige shop during the event, then removing it after said event ,giving access to the skins to those who have 100 prestige point accumulated a priori. These prestige point won't last for longer than a year. Nobody can hoard them since they expire and you can only get them from grinding event tokens, from doing the specific missions in 4 different events or by wasting a bunch on chests. These prestige points hold pretty much no value.

So pardon me if I'm blind, but is there anything in there about 2019s event skins being released for PP?

I see 2020s, but not 2019s I just wanted to know the date if there is one.

Which is kinda shitty. Yes people worked for those skins under the assumption that tokens were the only way, but not everyone has the ability to spend time getting a prestige skin and they'll miss it. Those people that got the skins got it without needing to spend money outside the pass, I'd gladly spend extra money for something like Prestige Arcade Caitlyn than someone who bought the pass and work d for it, but to be completely cut off from it is unfair.

I've unlocked every possible skin in league, spend thousands of dollars, spend thousands of RP to get every border in game with chroma bundles and now I can't get border with skin by rerolling. Thanks rito.

PS: just put prestige borders for current event skin in a hextech for a small amount(300 like others) of event tokens during events and another skins borders for a small amount of PP, and it will be fine.

This. I got all skins so I could reroll and avoid having to spend $120 USD per prestige skin (pp) or 1650 RP on passes and now we get punished after spending thousands of dollars on getting 950+ skins by missing out on the borders and icons? It feels crappy to be expected to pay full price for prestige point skins and to buy all the passes if you want the border and icon when you are able to reroll for new skins and when you were able to get the border by rerolling until now. Why do we lose value after such a huge investment? Why do we get less after having paid more than the majority of players?

Yep. I'm still buying passes to get all available borders/chromas/wards/emotes/icons, but I don't think it's possible to farm more than 5000 tokens to get all event content.

Same, I also got the pass for PROJECT's token shop chromas and borders, and I still wasn't able to get everything despite not having to farm for Project Irelia's PE skin.

I was thinking Riot could do something like discount the price of the PE skin on the event or prestige point shop if you already own the skin (like it happens in store bundles) but then I stopped myself and realized this would still make no sense for us as customers since the prestige border is something that should be standard to all prestige skins as it has been since their release given their prices (100 PP or $100+) or requirements (time + 1650 rp passes + being locked out of other event items due to the trade-off of having to grind 2000 for a skin you could reroll).
