Congratulations to Elise! She made her 92nd Worlds appearance in the Flash Wolves vs. Cloud9 game, making her the most picked Champion at Worlds of all time.

Check out the rest of the stats we've compiled from Day 3:

General

  • Nidalee is still 100% picked or banned and was picked for the first time yesterday by ANX -- and she won!
  • Mid lane has the most diverse Champion pool with 11 unique Champions played so far.
  • Four of the six teams that won yesterday had gold deficits at 20 minutes.
  • There was a huge variance in damage share and this is particularly true of top lane -- the damage share varies from 39% for AHQ to 14.2% for EDG.
  • Flash Wolves have the second highest percent of game minutes ahead but have yet to win a game.
  • ROX Tigers are behind in more than half of their game minutes and have yet to lose a game.

Counter Logic Gaming vs. Albus Nox Luna

  • This game had the most “lead switches” post 5 minutes of any game this Worlds with 11 switches.
  • Both aMiracle and Kira were substantially behind at 15 minutes. Kira was -38 CSD and aMiracle was -20 CSD.
  • Likkrit did 15.5% of his team’s damage, and overall has the highest damage per minute out of any support at 271 DMG/min.
  • Both Darshan and Huhi had a very low damage share with 16.9% for Darshan and 16.9% for Huhi.

ROX Tigers vs. G2 Esports

  • ROX came back from a 5,375 gold deficit at 20 minutes. It’s the largest comeback in the tournament so far. Their largest comeback in the Summer Split was from a 4,211 gold deficit at 20 minutes vs. Jin Air Green Wings.
  • Zven and Perkz out-CSed their opponents in the early game. Zven was +26 CSD and Perkz +18 CSD at 15 minutes.
  • Expect did a very low amount of the team’s damage at 13.9%, with 261 damage per minute.

Flash Wolves vs. Cloud9

  • This was the second longest game in World history. The longest was in 2014 in this famous game.
  • Flash Wolves continued was again unable to close out a game despite holding a significant gold lead.
  • C9 was much further ahead in CS during the laning phase with all three lanes out-CSing their opponents at 15 minutes. Jensen was +25 CSD, Impact was +36 CSD, and Sneaky was +11 CSD.

SK Telecom T1 vs. I May

  • SKT was the only team of the day that had a significant gold lead from 10-20 minutes and won.
  • BaeMe was only behind 2 CS at 15 minutes -- in part thanks to Avoidless camping his lane with a 34.6% jungle proximity.
  • I May’s ADC, Jinjiao, did 13% of his teams damage -- almost the same amount of damage as his support and less than their jungler.
  • His 150 damage per minute is the lowest of any ADC in any game at Worlds so far.
  • Wolf roamed a lot, only spending 4 minutes from 3-15 minutes with Bang.

TSM vs. Splyce

  • The early game was fairly even with Splyce not really gaining a significant gold lead until about the 28 minute mark.
  • Sencux continues to be one of the worst farmers in mid lane. He has been behind in CS at 15 minutes in 26 of his past 34 games.
  • TSM placed the least amount of wards per minute of the day at 3 per minute.

Samsung Galaxy vs. Royal Never Give Up

  • Xiaohu had a particularly difficult time in lane with -28 CSD at 15 minutes. He also did a low percentage of team damage at 16.4% with 215 damage per minute.
  • RNG had the highest wards placed per minute of the day with 4.35 placed per minute as well as the most wards killed per minute at 1.15.

Tune in today as the Week 1 of the Group Stage wraps up here in San Francisco!

Of all the midlaners in League, only 11 picked so far. And that's "diverse" :/

20 total games and 11 unique picks in midlane in the most competitive & highly skilled tournament of the year? That's pretty diverse compared to the past, when it would be a contest between like 3 picks that were either picked or banned every single game.

It's still not a ton of diversity with 11 champs picked or banned in mid lane (and one of those is Jayce, shared with top lane) with 24 games played (48 mid picks total and 72 total bans). We'll see if any teams come up with ASol or Syndra answers next week though so there will probably be some expanding of the mid pool.

As expected though there is very little jungle diversity.

Jungle diversity was definitely one of my major concerns coming into Worlds. Support, on the other hand, seems to be doing quite well in terms of who is actually viable... except for that Karma pick that seems to show up in every game. The diversity opposite her is encouraging at least.

Remember when Orianna was picked the most? Before the nerfs. Good times. She's still great but she was in so many games back then.

Missing from this article: who did Elise take the crown from? My guesses were Ezreal, Lee Sin, and Orianna, who were all present in the game listed as giving Elise the title and therefore couldn't have been the previous leader.

Could it be Alistar? He's always strong but hard to lane or heavily banned from jungle/top. Sona might have racked up a huge game count before mostly disappearing. I think Lulu saw too many bans during her dominating AP years, but the support game count leading into those should score her decently.

There is always too much Ezreal and Lee Sin, but never enough Orianna.
