Rewards for old Honor are out

tl;dr: Summoner icons celebrating old-school Honorable players are a wrap.

Like we mentioned back around the Honor relaunch, Honor veterans who racked up votes and ribbons are due a reward for fighting the good fight. We’re sending out five new (and exclusive) summoner icons to commemorate your old Honor accomplishments -- check out the eligibility details below for more info. We’re starting delivery right now, and should be wrapped up by the end of September. We’ll update this post once they’re all out in the wild.

There are five new icons in total. Here’s how they break down:

Four icons nod to the ribbons and categories of old Honor (Honorable Opponent, Friendly, Teamwork, and Helpful)
The fifth icon serves as a salute to a larger number of players who received votes in the old system

If you have played a matchmade game within the last year and meet the requirements below, you'll automatically receive the icons for which you are eligible.

Received an Honorable Opponent ribbon

Were in the top 10% of Honorable Opponents in your region

Received a Great Leader ribbon

Were in the top 10% of Friendly players in your region

Received a Great Teammate ribbon

Were in the top 10% of Teamwork honors in your region

Received a Great Mentor ribbon

Were in the top 10% of Helpful players in your region

Had a total of 10 or more honors when the old system retired

No way to differentiate players who played during the old system since 10 honors should be something everyone has, and players who have around 100+ which shows people actually enjoyed playing with you instead of 10. So if you had around 400+ and never got a ribbon you are bundled up with the rest of players who have at least gotten 10.

I don't know. The old honors were all based on good behaviour, and 80% of the players are so toxic that teemo uses them as bombs.

Yeah, that one's basically our participation trophy and most folks will get it. The other four are meant to be hard-mode rewards. We tried to guard against ribbons being shitty the last couple years by including the top 10% of honored players per category.

All the people who had like 500 honors in each category get no differentiation between people who had 10 total. That is my complaint. I've played this game for a long time, but not long enough to be in the top 10% (which by most people was probably reached by 5 man premade honor spamming) or to get one of the bullshit ribbons that had weird and almost unattainable requirements. I've seen 6 ribbons in my life.

I don't give a shit about the actual icons, but it's as if all my honors (close to 2000 total) are not going to be recognized at all. I'm going to have the same reward as somebody who started playing the game a week before the old honor system was retired.

I don't think we know what top 10% actually entails, it might be that your 500 in every category does make you in the top 10% for every one.

Sure theres gonna be some people with silly 1k+ from honour spam, but 10% is a lot of players in absolute terms.

Could not have been said better. I like I know I'm not going to get any of them, I only started playing league a little over a year ago, I've managed to get in over 1200 games in that time frame which just goes to show that in one year alone (provided you never got any punishments laid down) you can average 1200 total combined legacy honor and that's a huge number. Even having a large amount of legacy honor you're going to be rewarded the same as someone who got banned and made a new account.

These are literally icons and it seems like they are worth the same as infamous diamond youtube play-button, seems completely unfair. You only really get to show them off for 10-60 seconds in loading, where 90% of players are tabbed out. With the new mission system 60% of the time you can have it equipped, you need to have a different icon for the mission. Even for top 10%, it's a pity reward.

Perfectly worded really, its disgusting and shameful really to make a big deal out of this by announcing it, and making it something so worthless. Icons you will rarely use? For the very top few people in the top 10%, they get very average icons hardly worth using over say a Poro icon. That's kind of a slap in the face don't you think? If you're going to do that then don't even announce it. Just silently implement the reward so we don't know the standards for what reward you got is. I've been playing since season 2 and have gotten my fair share of honors but nothing that would put me in the top 10% of premade players honoring each other and I get the same thing, as you said, as someone who got banned and made a new account. Plain rude.

The huge, smelly irony of people being super entitled and meanspirited over something that is supposed to show you are a nice player is incredible. I hope you people realize this.

It shouldn't matter if you've been playing for years or for months, if you are a nice person and contribute to not making this game as toxic as it usually is, that is good.

You keep missing the point. It's only 10 honors for that particular icon.

The other four icons relating to each honor category is awarded to those in the top 10 PERCENT in each region. Let's hope your 500 honors in each category even makes it to the top 10% of each category.

instead of the vague 10%, they can simply relate the number of honors to the number of years played. How is this fair to players who have 100s of honors in each and never got a ribbon ?????????? example, 50 honors per year, so if a player has been playing for 3 years he need 150 in this or that category to receive an icon, seems more fair this way to people played for 10 years and people played for like 2! the icons need to be distributed in a fair way. I hope they reconsider the decision and numbers.

Again rito with the quality rewards I just want to say if they are doing this for how much honor ppl had and couldnt get a ribbon imagine what they are going to give us next season when they rework masteries and runes, another icon? nah I swear this is getting old

So I had over 1000 honors in one or two categories for nothing and won't be rewarded? Sounds pretty sweet, I guess I didn't expect to get an icon at all so at least I get thrown in with basically anyone who has pressed the play button. I'll take it, but for the record I'm taking it with a side of salt. [slayer-jinx-wink]

For riot, a tl;dr of this comment section. People who cared about the old honor system, who took pride in their honor despite not having a ribbon, are not satisfied with the reward you are providing. It feels especially cheapened by the incredibly low cap of the "participation trophy" (poor, but accurate phrasing Riot NaKyle) level icon.

Please do something for those of us between the "I hit the play button" crowd and the "I spammed premade 5s for 3 months to get enough honor for a ribbon" crowd.

Could we also get a permanent emote? There are so many icons now and rapidly increasing, that these will be forgotten in a few months.

Not that I don't appreciate it, just think since icons are very common a special touch should be included.

So wait, unless I'm ready this wrong you'll only get the rewards if you had a banner or were in the top 10% in your region WHEN YOU RETIRED THE SYSTEM. EDIT: They've clarified that you will get the icons if you did have a ribbon.

This seems like a pretty dick move, since a long time ago you changed the system to factor your honor based on TOTAL games per honor rather than RESENT games per honor.(aka anyone who had been playing the game for a long time had 0 chance of getting a ribbon from that point on since they already had a ton of games played)

It says above if you received a ribbon you get the icon. If you received all the ribbons at some point in that account, you should be getting all the icons.

Has nobody else realized that by making the current system unable to reward honorable opponents and by removing the ability to see your honor progress, and making everyone achieve honor levels at roughly the same time, Riot has effectively removed any value that honor once had? These rewards are really only emblematic of the problem that Riot has with changing things that are ok as they are just for the sake of change.

Riot is adding honoring opponents, they wanted to get the honor system out first.

I dont know about the same time thing, its like in a class, if everybody is working on getting a test done, people are going to finish near the same time.

Personally, I think the honor system is better than before.

10%? It's not the top 10% of a region who get these icons, it's if you had more than 10 honors (I believe in one specific category) for the fifth icon, the other four icons you get depending on whether or not you ever had honor ribbons by the time the honor system was reworked.

Do you need to currently have the ribbon or do past ribbons count? I remember around season 3 or 4 I had a green and yellow ribbon, but I didn't get one in any season past that.

Ahh, that's good to hear; I haven't had a ribbon for about 2 years now but I had a green ribbon for over a year and a blue one for a few months before that. Was worried I'd just get the 10 honor one.

I appreciate this big time... Not gonna lie, when I found out what the Santa Baron Icon meant I automatically treated those people better. Like, heck man, this is a gamer, they know they're not pro, but they love the game like I do. I'm glad to know I can be an oldbag and flash my veteran honors at the 10 year celebrations and some annoying kid will be like "he's not an idiot, he just doesn't know the current meta, come on team we gotta carry grampa" THANKS RIOT!

Prince of Persia's original games were not only some of the best level design in gaming history, but had some of the most progressive mentalities for how a platformer should play, ever.

AC has been milked to death, but it was innovative when it first released.

Splinter Cell was the origin of almost all stealth-based games in the current day. You wouldn't have Dishonored without Splinter Cell, certainly.

"Not League" is not ANYWHERE NEAR equivalent to "Terrible game".

Similarly "I don't like it" is almost NEVER EVEN CLOSE TO "it's a bad game".
