At this point I think Missions are becoming detrimental to the game. -Locking every event behind paywall passes -Attempting to coerce people to premade que all the time -practically forcing people to grind out games they dont want to play to feed their Hextech addiction thanks to obnoxious win cons(its not enough that you ATTEMPTED a all teleport teamcomp you also gotta win with it btw :3 ) -locking content that would normally be available for RP behind your ability to win games (such Wards or Icons)

I just dont know anymore... might be time to take Missions outback and pull the trigger if you catch my drift. This stuff is becoming a real headache

Every event has become just free players get a mediocre icon and a shard at most whereas all the DLC pass buyers get oodles and oodles of goodies (now they're even getting GEMSTONES).

When riot talked about introducing mission some of us thought it was going to be stuff for the WHOLE COMMUNITY not just those willing to cough up 10 bucks to participate .

the community gave Riot the idea for this and just like Chroma's they just twisted and morphed it into another method of squeezing our wallets or trying to push us to market LoL to our friends. If your'e not willing to pay in then you can sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else play the events who were willing to pay.

"but they're a compa-"

yeah man whatever. [sg-lulu]

Caretaker Jack23 votes

Super childish. Like, NONE of this stuff determines the outcome of a game, so what's the problem? Riot is a business. So, it's pretty stupid to complain about free players not getting enough.

Like, they should be happy they even have the option to get anything at all because there are so many other games that make you do a lot more for whole lot less.

This is pretty lit in comparison. You still get free skins, missions, and chromas for IP... The catch is you can only get it when you want it if you pay for it.

Which isn't even that bad seeing as most of the skins are under 15 dollars.

SirDgor25 votes

"Free"

time and patience isn't free, bud. Grinding matches, trying to get crates, getting a Garen champ shard from a week of grinding matches is not a free Garen shard.

Same as the missions. Grinding matches, grinding missions and such to get a border, icon, and maybe a key frag and some BE while people pay 1300 RP and grind a little harder to get a chroma, gemstones, the same border and icon, and still have 120 Tokens left is a clear sign of a paywall.

Vasmarok91 votes

The biggest problem with these missions is that they are counterproductive to mastering the strategy of the game. They force players to focus on small goals as opposed to the macro aspect of the game. Most players will pursue these missions, which means that for 6 weeks, you can't really play meaningful PvP games. The only way to avoid this if players not carrying the world icons are matched in games together by Riot (and not with those who want to complete missions). This is just fun entertainment, with some free stuff, but very far from the true League of Legends.

Whiddin15 votes

If you want to master the game you're free to ignore the side quests. Also, I doubt that people will be doing the odd requirements in ranked, if that's what you mean by "true." In Blind Pick I never know what's going to happen, so this won't be any particular disruption there.

Some may argue that "true" league is the constant iteration and new stuff and balance changes and never being able to say "this is optimal, period." Remember how a few of the items from the Bilgewater event ended up in standard, or how snowballs became standard in ARAM? Often these quirky side things reveal new metas or make certain champs awesome, and those revelations make it back to "true" ranked play.

XElement38 votes

My biggest issue with the paywall passes is Riot doesn't even give us really an option.

I'll spend RP, spent plenty. But 1k RP??? They need cheaper options.

GamingEelektross6 votes

Its only $10, yea its expensive for what it is, but it pays itself back with the Ashe Chroma, border, and Orbs with guaranteed skins.

banzaierzzz14 votes

My last guaranteed skin was a Shamrock Malphite. That's an expensive skin for $10 and a week long grind.

JLao7 votes

Missions are hella annoying, forcing people to do too many unnecessary things for collectibles. I'm here supporting u riot, u dont need to make me play to spend rp. I will buy rp for the sake of collecting, all that coercing to play to collect shit is unnecessary. Been playing since season 1...

When the game crams PvP down your throat even though bots is more peaceful and theres less stress. Thanks Rito.[sg-soraka]

Colorful Dream25 votes

Why is the e-sports scene so ridiculously promoted over everything else? Because it makes a lot of money for them. And if e-sports is where the money is, then the game developers will promote the game itself as first and foremost a competitive game. In other words, don't play a game to have fun, play to win. Which isn't great for those of us who like to play for fun, to chill and de-stress; our desires aren't prioritized because it's a minority of the playerbase in which there isn't as much revenue to be made or lost.

destruyer4 votes

That's actually completely wrong. Riot Games loses money on Worlds every year. They don't make a profit from it. It's for the love of the game and the promotion of exceptional players. Even those players don't get paid well at all for the time and effort they put into their sport. Do a little research next time before you bitch on the internet about something you know nothing about.

(Edit: In hindsight, this was a terrible way to go about this. I made an apology to the OP later on. Sorry for bringing so much toxicity 😅)

Colorful Dream4 votes

Thank you for your respectful disagreement and correction. I know nothing, as you said.

destruyer2 votes

I apologize for how I said what I said. What I said about Riot losing money on Worlds is still true, however. They try their best to make the game as enjoyable for as many as possible and many players, such as myself, enjoy watching Worlds. Riot isn't perfect and isn't able to cater to everyone as they'd like. Again, I apologize for how disrespectful I was. I wish you a good day and good luck in your future games!

Colorful Dream4 votes

Honestly, I hadn't researched, as you said. You did make a valid point. But thanks for the apology! It's a lot easier to receive a correction when it's with a proper attitude. I personally cannot stand e-sports, so my own attitude wasn't great to begin with. I'm just ridiculously casual, playing bot games and such. :P

It's rare to resolve such disagreements on the anonymous internet, so this kinda made my day. :D Best to you also, Destruyer.

Flemman70 votes

:( once again mission force us to play sr for the most part [cass-cry]

Vìlya13 votes

Yeah sucks that you have to play the real game and not some abridged addition.

How Do You Meta76 votes

Some of us like to play on ARAM or Twisted Treeline.

jaxycocoa3 votes

like 1% of the player base likes ARAM and Twisted treeline. There is no way they would would ever have a twisted treeline mission.

SoJa30 votes

Nobody is asking for a Treeline or ARAM specific mission, They are asking to have missions with the goal of "Win a matchmade game" instead of "Win a matchmade game on summoners rift".

Andles1716 votes

Well,I'd say it actually makes sense for Worlds missions since it's the Worlds map

Minarde68 votes

On the other hand, it doesn't make sense, since Riot explicitly cited "Win an ARAM game" as an example of a bad mission that forces people to play something they don't want to. "Win an SR game" does exactly the same thing and should be just as bad.

Raven and Terra1 votes

It's also harder to, say, have a mission where you have to win with an ashe in the game, when say ARAM doesn't let you control which champs. I do think they should really make it just a PvP non-custom game in future game modes (well unless it's a skin line-themed event, like the Vs. and the Battle Boss ones)

Tesla Effect1 votes

Or how about playing only melee champions and having a teleport team...thats just dumb requierments for the sake of dumb requierments.

Raven and Terra4 votes

I think people also forget that missions are still a WIP. The ultimate aim (last time I heard) was to have regular missions that aren't connected to any event. They have to test the boundary waters in order for them to know fully what is good and what is bad. Doesn't excuse everything they have been doing, but explains their thought process

GTOtto70 votes

I thought you guys said you weren't gonna have missions that would negatively impact the game, so why do we have bs like having all melee/tp teams.

Mistiya21 votes

This. All melee/all TP team is a troll team, and you're asking us to win with it not just play with it. You'd think "win a game with a Yasuo botlane" (no ranged means no Ziggs or TF or Kennen or Ahri 'fake adc') would be more than 5 tokens just for the difficulty of it.

Rybar56 votes

Ashe chroma only unlockable with 10$ pass. [zombie-brand-mindblown]

Añdoo22 votes

Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty stupid imo. If I wanted to pay rp for the chroma, just lemme buy the chroma. Don't make me wait 6 weeks, and do missions that I had to buy to get it

KiwiKilYa23 votes

It's supposed to be special, not just some skin you can buy like all the other ones. Though paying $10 on top is a bit much. If it was harder to obtain but free then maybe it'd be fine.

Sylnashura53 votes

So maybe nobody cares, but I've hit my boiling point with these missions. I haven't really cared about the last few rewards for previous mission sets enough to trudge through the awful garbage, so I've just kind of ignored them. That's fine. It wasn't for me, I didn't care, I played without participating. But this is easily the scummiest set yet with just how much you have to go through to get the chroma, on top of it being JUST a chroma. Like, it's not even a skin. It's not something you can use without the skin. Nevertheless, it's something I wanted until I did two seconds of research. The fact that you have to spend money on top of money to get the ability to grind up and HOPEFULLY get the chroma is just disgusting. Should you happen to buy the master pass and not manage to scrape together enough completed missions, for any reason, you're just out of luck. "Sorry, friend", says Riot, fanning themselves with the money you've tossed their way for literally no gain on your end. That's been my opinion on these passes from the beginning, but it couldn't be more obvious now, with all of these missions becoming more and more intrusive into the regular game. It's hit the point now where I don't even want to play the game while these missions are running because I'll just be frustrated seeing that thing I want pushed in my face and knowing I can't get it.

As a side note, it's actually dissuaded me from purchasing the skin itself because I liked the chroma version and figured I would earn that and then get the skin. It's impressive to have something in your game that's so awful it actually convinces me not to spend money on it. I'm terrible with my money. :v

Breadgehog25 votes

Yeah. "Drop $30 on both the skin and an oppourtunity to commit 6 weeks to this game more than you normally would while jumping through increasingly intricate hoops to get a chroma for that skin." isn't cool. That's before even touching that many of the quests are the kind that fuck with gameplay - 5 teleports? All melee team? Sucks to be a not premade player.

Hørsegrenades14 votes

They are making it hard to get on purpose, why is that a problem? To get the skin it will require, Money, Time, Skill, and most importantly Patience. It's not going to be owned by every average Joe and I'm fine with that. I, personally, don't want to buy into it and can care less about that skin or the chroma. But, I see the reasoning behind it and for people who really like the limited edition skins and are collectors, this is a sweet skin that says, "hey, I went through a lot to get this".

You are also capable of spending the mission rewards on other prizes besides the chroma and border. Like orbs, or keys. Which I will be obtaining instead.

I'm sorry, I just don't get this whole attitude of expecting a free to play game, that is ultimately a business, to not tempt you into spending money on it and put more time into it. They are always going to try and grow bigger, that's what businesses should do. Welcome to real life.

Sylnashura19 votes

Alright I'm gonna make this one simple because you don't seem to be grasping the core concepts.

-If I'm going to spend money on something, I expect there to be something in return. Now before you or anybody else gets all huffy "oh well you DO get those missions it's not Riot's fault if you don't do them ugh idiot" Yes. Correct. That's the The Point™. If you have time, money, and patience to burn on this game, then lucky you. -These missions don't take skill, though. They're grindy and that's it. I work and have a life outside of League. I don't have time for that grind even if I were willing to support these disgusting, money-grubbing practices.

-Largely ignoring the middle bit because I don't see the relevance. This is about the chroma, not what you can if you should fail to get it.

-Making your event a thing that actively dissuades all but the most hardened/devoted/insane from spending money does not make for a good business practice. That's literally the most inane thing I've heard all day. The things they have done in the past have worked and have grown them to where they are now. Testing their boundaries like this? Trying to see how horrible for their consumers they can make something while still making money off of it? That is what BAD businesses do and this is feedback to let them know we are unhappy with it.

Ah, I suppose I should also end this with some type of non-snappy, psuedo-intellectual phrase. A day of travelling will bring a basketful of learning!

Zastie37 votes

You know it starts feeling really pointless to have icon rewards when every event is demanding you wear an icon for the event. Like, it only made sense during the VS. event because you were representing a side. Now it's just plain obnoxious.

Maganar9 votes

I'm glad someone else is saying this, even though the bigger issue of the paywall situation is taking center stage. I have a friend who disagrees and says "Free stuff for equipping an icon, so what?" but I'm pretty adamant that the requisite to equip the icon on these back-to-back events is, well, really stupid.

I mean, the whole point of an avatar icon is to represent yourself, and there are options to pay RP to represent things in the game you like (a champion, a skin, heck, even a jungle mob). Except now people are shoehorned into all equipping the same icon like part of some viral meme or mob sensation if they just want a chance to get some free content. It sucks the meaning out of even having avatar icons...

Firecube5525 votes

I literally could not care about missions anymore. Like most other things in this game, Riot has managed to make them not fun and tedious.

ShoOmen24 votes

If you go to the FEATURED section of the shop, there is a QR Code on the Worlds Master Pass. If you scan it, it gives you a message saying ggwp. Thought that was kind of funny and something cool to share.[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

BushidoBlade24 votes

I will not support this type of monetizing of the game that I've played and supported since 2010.

I used to like / buy hextech boxes and missions during special events but, in the past Chaos / Order and Arcade events, I felt like I didn't recieve the value of my RP for those specific missions so I will no longer be supporting the purchase of missions (which I've always thought to be a SELLOUT form of monetizing the game, making f2p into p2p).

I just want to let Riot know that you can count me OUT of this event. I would guess that I own 300+ skins and many of those Legendary, but these missions are horse shit. I like to support the professional esports scene, however, and not all of Riot's marketing is complete horse shit, to say the least, just this singular practice.

Arandrus19 votes

I miss the good old days of buying icons with ip and not having every new skin be 1300 rp

DEMONTEM14 votes

So from my math, if I don't buy a Master pass the most I can get it's the Championship Ashe Icon and Loading Border and some keys or blue essence? [sg-ahri-3]

Søn oƒ Echidnæ14 votes

It may be worth mentioning, along with a lot of the critics posting here, that the game is home to several million online players at any one time. Maybe time to time, a majority of those millions of players forget that Rito likes paying its bills too? If you don't want to purchase the missions, due to an allergy to spending, don't. The only side effect is you're not getting the (possible) ashe skin chroma, and a few other nicknacks. Take a pass on that double cheeseburger, or that 24 syllable Starbucks drink this week and BAM. Nothing lost to you. Otherwise.... Find something else to repetitively complain about.

Breadgehog21 votes

Riot's not hurting for cash, doesn't need you to cape for them, and needs to be told that this sort of shit isn't what people wanted when THEY suggested the mission system. It came directly from player suggestions/feedback and having it devolve into a cashgrab is disheartening at best. I've been playing this game for 7 years and spending RP pretty liberally throughout, but the buck stops here. Missions were meant to be community events, not something that requires real money and actively fucks with the sanctity of ranked queues by not only allowing them to be eligible for playstyle-modifying missions, but ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING playing these in ranked by merit of having the missions active when Riot knows people are working on the end of season grind. Fuck outta here with this "multimillion dollar company needs to pay its bills" nonsense.

samer3574 votes

can you get the chroma or the border if you don't own championship ashe ?

RiotRiot Mortdog26 votes

You can get them now, then buy the skin later. When you buy the skin, the border/chroma will be ready for you!

samer3574 votes

by " buy the skin later " if i didn't buy it in this event , i can only buy it next year , right ?

RiotRiot Mortdog20 votes

Correct. Or you could acquire it through loot for example.

RiotDanCast9 votes

Ah I misunderstood, and thought you could get the skin too. I thought the pass at 1300 + effort was a way to get the skin and chroma vs 1350 + no effort if you just wanted to buy. I don't feel good about my pass purchase now. [sg-zephyr]
