New Mac Installs Possibly Halted on macOS 10.15

Hey Mac users!

We have another update for you following Apple's announcement regarding macOS 10.15. Named Catalina, Apple's newest operating system is set to release sometime in October 2019 as announced on their official website.

TLDR: Due to the broad release date, we don't know if Catalina will support League of Legends and TFT on Mac devices. If you know a Mac user who might be interested in League of Legends or TFT, get them to install it as soon as possible to be safe!

How does this affect me, a Mac League of Legends/TFT player?

Existing players with League of Legends on their Macs will not have any problems or changes with League of Legends when Catalina rolls out. The game will patch normally and players will be able to play as they have been!

So what's changing?

At this time and with what we know, people will not be able to install League of Legends on their Mac devices on Catalina. So in the meantime, if you know someone who is interested in installing League of Legends, they should do so before Catalina debuts in October OR not update their macOS to Catalina until they do.

When will we have more information on exact timing?

We do not currently have an estimated timeline for when Catalina will be able to support League of Legends, but we will update players as we get a clearer look at its release date.

So a new OS coming out and y’all STILL haven’t fixed the current issue with MacBook mic not working with League Voice Chat 💭 I’ve been playing for 7 months and looked at the bug reports and it says that you guys know about it but still nothing.

The alleged problem is a pop-up error stating that the app is damaged. It's a security issue that can be triggered by some apps: if you disable SIP (System Integrity Protection), you won't experience any of this. But there's also a safe and easy workaround: open the Terminal (it's located in Applications/Utilities), paste " xattr -cr /Applications/League\ of\ Legends.app" (without the quotation marks, of course) and then press Return. Done.

Riot could easily solve this, just like the mic issue that had be troubleshooted by Reddit users (a solution of which many are probably unaware). I hope they finally take the chance to fix both bugs (and maybe, while they're at it, the minimisation one too).

So just like the mic not working error which Riot has had over a year to deal with which is still not fix due to using a very outdated version of the builder it is getting worse.

I personally call this a larger issue that proving Riot needs to do some real support on their mac client.

Great so not only do I have to reinstall league everyone i closed it due to issues after patch 9.16. If I install Catalina, it's over.

Then again anyone noticed, it seems the more updates we get from mac the more difficult it is to play league?

Maybe mac is the issue and not riot.

Community: Can you please fix the giant bug that doesn't let the mic work in league voice that's been around for like, a year and also maybe make the game playable on the upcoming macOS version?

Riot: ??? you guys want more skins ?

The issue I'm have is that every time i close the game client and try to reopen it, i get an error message saying that i couldn't update the game. So the only way i can play is by reinstalling the game, and it works fine until i close the game out, which starts the cycle over again. A fix would be much appreciated!

I have Catalina installed on my Mac and was having trouble with the Riot Games installer. On a whim, I deleted the Riot Games application and boom, LOL updated and launched. Give it a shot if you're having problems.

Im not 100% sure, but I think the most recent security updates for Sierra also prevent League from opening. Ever since updated, League client won't open at all. Tried reinstalling and still League won't open. So... I can't play... oh wells....

This is really unfortunate. I've been able to play because I've been using my old mac from 2011, for which most of the new mac updates don't work, but recently upgrades to a mac from 2015, which of course, has Catalina installed. I can get the game to run on a fresh install, but it is balls slow, and full of bugs. For instance, after changing the resolution, I tried to scroll over the map by moving my mouse to the edge of the screen... left, right, and down worked, while up did not.

Stay strong summoners.

Out of curiosity, are any other Mac users having an issue with their client saying something along the lines of "You may not be connected to the internet" and not letting you log on?

My client has been doing this on both my wife and I's Macs for a better part of 3+ months. The only thing we can do is close it, wait 15ish seconds and try again. It usually works on the 4th or 5th time.

And then it sometimes crashes while in the client, never in game. And when that happens, we have to start the whole process over again...

So I was hesitant about installing on MacOS Catalina because people said it didn’t work. Well I’m on the latest 10.15.2 and decided to download and install. Installed and ran perfectly fine. Played a couple games. Closed out and able to get back in no problems. Game on!
