A much overdue update. Thank you for making the game more forgiving on noobs. Now make it so you can sell T1 and T2 runes or remove them XD.
Two weeks ago we said that we'd be putting some starter tier 3 runes on permanent sale for 50% off.
Well...they're on sale now.
This is an update to let you know that.
Who ever writes these @ riot, deserves a raise..
Runes have always felt like an unnecessary layer of complexity.
Let's look at it from multiple angles.
Angle 1 : Game Dynamics The functionality of runes could have been bundled into Masteries. There is barely even a thematic reason not to.
Angle 2 : Art You've spent just about zero time on the art for Runes. Please don't take this as criticism, whether you should have or not is another matter and I honestly have almost no opinion on it. But clearly they are not serving much as far as the artistry of the game.
I can think of dozens of ways to make runes more fun and would occupy a few graphic design / computer art interns time for a month or two and they'd probably leave and talk about how much fun it is to work at Riot.
Angle 3 : IP The whole IP system is kind of silly. I mean for starters they're inflated; you can divide it all by 10 and no one would care.
Add betting. Bet on observable games with IP. People would love it.
I digress.
So back to Runes. They cost IP, which actually isn't half as annoying as the freaking interface for runes. It's designed like a 1996 web page when everyone thought checkboxes and select boxes were cool. It has the design and layout pizzaz of someone who just decided "that's it, I'm leaving this boring ass job where I design trading software that is used only by the most soulless of individuals so that I can go make games!!". I know because I used to be one of those guys. Seriously I think I have ordered esoteric plumbing parts from a distributor using an interface that was more fun than the Runes one.
I actually need to buy more Runes but I never really look into (I'm an on-again-off-again type player btw) because I rather make do with the half set I bought than have to go through that frustrating interface.
Angle 4 : What the &!#% are Runes? Are we collecting little seals? In the confines of the reality of the fiction of the game, do they exist? Are they in summoner's minds? Why do they look like either dry brittle barely flavorful biscuits OR a set of crappy commemorative plates that will eventually gather dust.
No offense but the whole Lore system feels like the jankyness of actual religions (pieced together from rituals that were likely developed by brilliant yet mentally deranged minds). It's cool how you've managed to piece together Anime-like worlds with Lord of the Rings-like worlds with HP Lovecraft-like worlds plus probably half a dozen others. By "managed to piece together" I mean by using several dozen boxes of oversize packing tape. It sort of like when my 6 year old cousin says "OMG WHAT IF SAILOR MOON WAS IN GAME OF THRONES?!" That's a lie by the way. No one says that. I mean I just did, but that's not the point.
PS I love this game. Any criticism I've made is just like about that remaining 2% of work to bring it to the next level.

All the ones I've had forever XD Well, I'm not complaining. This is going to be really nice for newer players and smurfs.
I remember at level 10 getting excited about T2 Runes, I hit level 30 and have to buy new ones... I spend a month Gathering IP for my new runes, where was this Rito Pls 
How is this fair to the players like myself that grinded hours upon hours to purchase a single rune? Are you going to now split the difference with me? Also, what happen to my Halloween quints I bought yeeears ago?
I think its a little late making the most popular runes cheap now because a MAJORITY of us already have it. Runes are extremely expensive and this causes players to shy away from playing and trying new things. There have been so many times I wanted to play support but because I don't have the right runes for support I play only the roles what I have which is ADc,top since they share ad runes in common. I would rather save my IP for something meaningful like a new champion. Lack of affordable runes makes league kind of (still extremely fun) but repetitive until you have the resources to play what how you want. It wasn't until recent that I bought move speed quints and I really enjoy them and use it for most junglers but it will be a while again till I can purchases a new set of quints/runes I want to try out, and there are a lot I want to try. To be honest I always wondered why runes cost so much or had a price to begin with if you want players to try out new champions it just kills the motivation, which is why I rarely play support.
I already have everything I need. I'm still glad you guys are doing this for those who are looking to buy runes whether it be on people's smurfs, new players or because it was expensive in general. =)

Hey, that's great! So when are you guys going to unbreak the game? cough juggernaut update cough See y'all in smite, after 4 years of league I think I'm done.
I'd still like the lift on max number of runes you can own. There's 3 sets of quints I can't purchase because I wanted to keep the event runes from Halloween and Christmas you guys put out like 3/4 years ago.
I just wonder how can I sell these runes... It is really annoying when I see my tier 2 runes...

I think all runes should be pretty cheap to begin with. Someone with 15 Bonus armor just because they have the cash is a HUGE advantage to someone who does not.
