As an Akali main, I can tell you that is nothing special considering the Akali's score before the penta (16/4) with the following items (hextech, mobi boots, zhonya's, void staff, rabadon's, chain vest), as well as the fact that the only defenses against magic damage were a Locket on Nami and a Maw and Merc's on Kha. Not sure why you're suprised by this.

Meanie401 votesIf you're going to get him with RP, a sale is the best time to do so. It all depends on how often you play and how long it would take to gather the IP (along with possibly needing the IP for runes).
Edit: Note that Ziggs is coming close to a permanent price reduction to 880 RP/4800 IP though. This will occur 3 champions out.
It's not a big deal if you want to play him now, just pointing out that his price will drop in about 6-8 months, at the rate Riot is releasing champions.
