TFT Update: Hextech Heroics

Riot·8/13/2019, 5:00:11 PM·2 votes·37,071 views

Hextech has entered the game.

The Hextechs are a group of champs specializing in knocking your well-equipped enemies down to size. At the beginning of combat, they'll throw out a bomb that disables enemy items in an area for a limited amount of time. This bonus kicks in once you've deployed two Hextechs and becomes stronger once you've deployed all four.

Take down the enemy team before their items come back online!

The Champions:

  • Camille
    • Camille is a Blademaster that excels in taking down single targets with her allies. Camille's ability, The Hextech Ultimatum, roots an enemy and forces her in-range teammates to target whomever she's fighting. Think about Camille's positioning carefully to get your team to focus their firepower on a specific enemy.
    • Class: Blademaster
    • Cost: 1

  • Jayce
    • Jayce is a shapeshifter who excels at disrupting the enemy frontline by knocking back an enemy unit with his Thundering Blow. Once the defenses are open, he switches to his Mercury Cannon bringing increased attack speed and ranged damage to the battle.
    • Class: Shapeshifter
    • Cost: 2

  • Vi
    • If you absolutely have to get to the enemy backline, you better bring Vi. This Brawler targets the farthest enemy and charges towards them, knocking aside and damaging every enemy along the way. Once she gets there she knocks her target up and damages them.
    • Class: Brawler
    • Cost: 3

  • Jinx
    • Jinx is a high risk, high reward Gunslinger that ramps up through the course of a fight. She Gets Excited after her first takedown, gaining bonus attack speed. If she scores a second takedown she pulls out Fishbones, her rocket launcher, causing her attacks to deal AoE damage. Keep Jinx fully equipped and supported and she'll carry your team to victory.
    • Class: Gunslinger
    • Cost: 4

PLEASE change the shape around the traits so that they're different between Origins and Classes. For example, Origins would have a hexagon, while classes would have a square, pentagon, or circle around them. It would make it so much faster to differentiate them on the left side of the screen when playing!

Also, it would be great if we could click or hover a Trait in-game and have it highlight the champions affected by the trait, to quickly see which champs are getting the bonus or which ones you can't remove from your lineup when changing team comp.

I like that new champions / origins / classes are being added. But I don't like the theme of this one. Having items taken away feels bad, I'd rather have it create 2/4 random hextech inventions that last only the round they're created. These could be exclusive items that are only obtained from Hextech. Please reconsider. : )

anti-fun mechanic

Krypterr1238/13/2019, 6:51:20 PM9 votes

Items are the reason half of the team comps are even viable, so taking them away nerfs the game really hard. I do not like this much.

PÛSSY ENCHANTER8/15/2019, 4:33:52 AM8 votes

Hextech is the most fun-disabling thing ever, please remove it.

Gileneas8/15/2019, 3:05:18 AM8 votes

The biggest complaint that people have in this game mode is the items. Getting items is just straight up unreliable, it is not only RNG on what item you get, but if you even get one at X round. You want to make it so that a 2 man combo can completely undo the patient waiting to get an item, or worse yet, knock out the only crutch that player had going for them to stay in the game?

"Let's take the most frustrating aspect of this game mode and create a class that exacerbates that problem"

What were you actually thinking?!

xXPokemanXx8/14/2019, 8:14:42 PM7 votes

I like the idea of the hex tech thing but the ability is just far too powerful in my opinion, it makes it basically impossible to play around items you have to rely on strong comps and alot of those comps rely on items

JohnnyJacker118/15/2019, 4:07:07 AM6 votes

I personally think it's a little bit too overloaded about "disabling an entire item from a single/multiple champions for 8 seconds".

It would be great if the Hex-Tech Trait passive would instead disable the targeted Champion item's Passive Thus makes the item sort of relevant with the flat stats, rather than being completely useless. An example like Warmogs with no heal, or Youmuu's Ghostblade with no jump, but they still kept the stats.

Šhadòw8/18/2019, 1:23:19 AM6 votes

Hextech is a horrible mechanic, straight and to the point. Why? Because it disables a huge strength of some teams and completely neuters some builds. I ended up in a game where I had to split my champions I had so awkwardly just to get around the mechanic (This was at the ass end of the game, couldn't imagine doing this close to the start, and honestly if my RNG was just a little bit worse that game I would've been fucked, but I had just enough items and placement to completely mitigate the mechanic entirely.) The mechanic isn't fun and just leaves the player at the mercy of RNG further. RNG is NOT fun in this instance, neither is getting Fucked in champion rolling but besides that point. I repeat, RNG IS NOT FUN in this instance. (( Infinite stuns are also very annoying, but at least that requires a ton more setup and support to go with it to pull off. )) May be add diminishing returns on stuns?

Ëspionage8/15/2019, 1:04:45 AM6 votes

Definitely kinda dumb to disable items. Should create a hextech item or buff or ally champs instead of disabling them, ruining builds and characters outright imo. The new champs are great though.

10xtheApex8/17/2019, 1:01:16 AM5 votes

Hextech is a huge failure it's just not fun and all rng as if the matchmaking and items weren't enough.

Felix CuIpa8/15/2019, 8:33:24 AM5 votes

im probably done after playing with this, it was impossible to try and buff one unit to win, I ended up selling the unit cause they were useless every fight and tried to spread out the items. It didn't matter. legit broken and Im done with this mode till they fix it. Wish i could get my money back from buying eggs, that was a terrible idea anyways

im glad this update came out cause school in starting back and i needed something to upset me enough to stop playing.

PiIICosby8/14/2019, 10:49:57 PM5 votes

perfect timing for absolute trash addition to the game to drive me away from it

Felix CuIpa8/15/2019, 8:24:39 AM5 votes

This update makes it impossible to play without hextechs on your team as the enemy team will disable your items and they will still have theirs. I had one chance to try and get back into the game but had my only two items disabled every round and was steam rolled. I guess hextech is being forced into every comp, you wont have a fair fight without disabling their items too.

Mid Lane Annie8/13/2019, 6:53:19 PM5 votes

Imagine being angry that you cant get a full entire build of 6 items to annihilate. "Boo Hoo I hate balance!" Don't fret rito this wont be that big of a problem that people are making it.

Mid Lane Annie8/13/2019, 6:54:30 PM4 votes

Now positioning matters and watching your opponents ~ But please fix the loss ratio of LP 8th lose 60+ and 1st gets 30-40?

ShadowsDieTwice8/16/2019, 9:09:06 PM3 votes

Pretty frustrating to play against. Really no counter-play. Plase make it like it works something like "ZEPHYR" which is like mirroring the wielder placement or like works in a corner. You cant put any items on KINDRED to get his ult faster or put KINDRED beside ur other carry rangers so playing KINDRED is fkin useless. Same goes for a lot of champs and class. Hextech needs a fucking rework or nerf on that silence duration.

suffernow8/15/2019, 12:02:47 AM3 votes

Why the heck was the 6 man brawler buff and 6 man gunslinger buff added before the 6th gunslinger and 6th brawler were added? that just seems like bad decision making

TexasPwnsAll8/16/2019, 11:39:22 PM3 votes

I don't like the mechanic as a whole as I firmly believe that it is very much anti-fun and I think that it should work in a positive manner rather than a reductive manner. Like granting a brief buff for your team instead of penalising the other team for having a good formation or finally getting decent items.

If however, you insist on it being something similar to its current incarnation, then I do believe that it can be fixed into something more workable. The main issue that makes it stupid op atm is the splash effect of the bomb. Positioning is insanely important in TFT, and there is not much ground in which to work. Formations are key to being able to execute comps, and, with the exception of certain items or assassins, most formations are close to each other for both protection and that there aren't tons of space in the first place so that bomb normally hits two-three units at minimum. So either you spread your forces out which drastically reduces your chances of winning against a standard spear or phalanx formation or your items on multiple characters which are pinnacle for success especially seeing as many characters are lackluster without items will be nullified for the first half of a battle. It forces one to build HT themselves to hopefully have it neutralise the other. Which irks me as I believe that it is poor design to force someone into having to pick something to stand a chance (kinda like my rants against the ss flash back in Beta that turned out to be true but I digress). Anyways, I would be far more accepting of the current HT for it to only affect one character at 2 and two at 4. It would still be anti-fun like the Phantom ability, but it would be less so than the status quo.

Okay, you missed out on some better champions to deploy, like heimer, ziggs, etc, but if you're doing this origin stuff, would you PLEASE make Lulu a Wild at heart. She is the FAE SORCERESS! Fae are wild creatures...

xDustynx8/13/2019, 5:47:52 PM2 votes

Why no ziggs :(

EliVexell8/14/2019, 6:28:21 PM2 votes

poor Ekko , i guess working an ability in other than his passive would be improbable. but idk i was hoping.

KH Christian8/14/2019, 9:19:51 PM1 votes

THE PERSON WHO CAME UP WITH THE HEXTEC PASSIVE SHOULD BE SHOT ON SITE what the hell is that totally killing the game mode terrible terrible terrible idea

JediMasterKenobi8/17/2019, 3:55:49 PM1 votes

I love TFT. However, I played one game on 9.16 and I haven't played since soley because of Hextech. It was a terrible experience.

CoasterSky8/13/2019, 8:39:59 PM1 votes

Can you add Heimer to Hextech class in the future?

Keeper of Shades8/20/2019, 8:39:25 PM1 votes

Honestly, I really like the hextech passive. You can play around it, it's not certain to wipe out the best items, and it nerfs the hypercarry dependence in favor of having a good comp with decent synergies.

Espy Psyche8/22/2019, 1:14:39 PM1 votes

The Hextech Gunslinger should have been Caitlyn and not Jinx. Why?

Because Camille, Jayce and Vi are all Piltovians and not Zaunites. Making it Caitlyn instead would have left open the option to make Zaun its own faction (Chemtech? Bioforge?) that could include Jinx:

Viktor: Chemtech Sorcerer (Chaos Storm) Singed: Chemtech Knight (Poison Trail) Dr. Mundo: Chemtech Brawler (Burning Agony) Jinx: Chemtech Gunslinger (Get Excited) Janna: Chemtech Guardian (Monsoon) Ekko: Chemtech Assassin (Timewinder)

Still awaiting my Noble Sorcerer Lux (Final Spark) or my Noble Ranger Sorcerer Ezreal (Mystic Shot). Oh and my Wild Ranger Xayah (Featherstorm + Bladecaller baked into one) and Wild Guardian Rakan (Gleaming Quill)

Gunky8/24/2019, 8:48:53 PM1 votes

The ability is too easy to build around with how powerful Jinx and is not fun to play against. It necessitates you having your own hextech units to compete late game, but that creates a dichotomy that is both uninteresting and unfun to play against. Not to mention the trait is complete RNG dependent, further creating a feel-bad moment for the person who builds it and still loses to the opponent with the hyperstacked Jinx they missed while their hyperstacked Jinx gets canned. High varience and unfun to play against -- bad game design in a nutshell.

PandaBlue9/4/2019, 10:35:18 PM1 votes

i really hate this hextch buff. build item need to calculate your health and take the risk of doesnt get desired item. but this buff, simply two popular champion can destroy your whole effeort, i really hope you can either reduct the time or change the buff(like make it like bliz). again, this buff is wayyyy too op, and make whole game less fun. defeated by this brainless buff(cost only 2 champion) is very upset.
