The difference is that League of Legends only has 3 different map types. It's hard to roll a skin over something on Riots side, because they have to completely edit the appearance of the walls of that map, these walls I am referring to are the invisible barriers that make up the map restrictions; an example of this, if you have ever rolled a mage in world of warcraft, and blinked into a wall and you see nothing, but cannot cross the barrier. These 'walls' (I'm sure there is a technical name for them) need to have the mesh that sits on top of them redone. This is not as easy as custom skins suggest, custom skins simply rest on top of the current mesh, changing things in on the surface, but as a perfectional company, Riot can't just put a skin on top of the map; in essence, we are almost looking at a brand new map itself, just with an identical build to Summoners Rift. Compared to early League days, when we got a champion every 2 weeks; Riot has made progress by leaps and bounds to make that overall experience better for everyone. Between LCS, Champions, all the bugs we find, PBE, and a whole assortment of things I haven't even talked about, Riot can Reskin the map because it's just adding some mesh lines and removing some others, but for them to make a new map, its a lot of work that might not even pay off. For example, if they release a new map, and no one likes how it feels, that is thousands of dollars in development funding wasted. Games like Heros of the storm, an MOBA that features multiple maps, you don't get an option where you play, it is selected for you (I could be wrong, I don't play a whole lot of HOTS anymore). Riot comes up with original, unique champions; Blizzard made a great move by basing their heroes off of pre-existing characters already created. League has more consistency and is more team oriented with the idea that teamwork is what wins games, HOTS is the same way, but is never kill oriented or revolves more around Objectives. If you have never played HOTS, and disagree with me saying this, go play 1 game of HOTS, and you will understand that you can literally not even touch an enemy hero and still win the game due to the on map objective, in League, you need the kill to help secure objectives, hence it being easy to steal them. Where HOTS has many maps, we have rotating game modes. For all we know riot is still working on the Magma chamber from 2013 (14?) but for what Riot gives up weekly, I really don't think we can complain about 3 maps, that don't always get a lot of attention. I know you were making more of a statement but I just wanted to post this. Happy Snowdown!
