Dark Star Cho’Gath Charity Results

Riot··3 votes·28,385 views

From July 13 – August 10, 2018, you supported local nonprofit organizations through the Dark Star Cho’Gath campaign. All proceeds from the skin (as well as his icon, emote, and bundles) from that time are going to organizations that represent the values of League players in each region.

With your overwhelming support, we’re thrilled to announce that you’ve raised over $6.1 million to be sent to these select nonprofits.

We would like to thank Bryan, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, GlobalGiving, the participating nonprofit organizations, and you. We’re blown away by these results—you’ve made a real difference for so many people around the world.

Thank you so much.

In case you missed it: Go behind-the-scenes for more on this skin’s creation, or head to our announcement page for the full list of nonprofit organizations.

How about you leave your petty feelings about an event to help introduce and include others, that are not male, into our community out of this charity post????????????

RISE Shlack1233 votes

To be entirely fair, this was discriminatory to FtM transgender folks as well. Js

if u read the post, it said exceptions, so hm

Out of curiosity, what did the OP say?

Irken1 votes

T'was a bad jab at the PAX "incident" regarding the panel room being ladies-and-others-only for four hours.

What a topical and insightful comment about a charity event from weeks ago! You sure do keep on top of things, ImABeast20fo7. To answer your question, the funds went to children and teens in low-income communities in Brazil, Chile, China, Russia, and Turkey, students and hospitals in Germany and Mexico, suicide prevention in Ireland, autism sufferers (there are four times as many men suffering from autism as there are women!) in Korea, mental illness sufferers in Australia, refugees in southeast Asia, cancer patients in Spain, physically disabled children in the UK, and, of course, the children that are part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. So... nope!

Not to get involved, but I think you're behind on the current event being referenced.

@BeatzBoyFTW Incredible how you can so easily discern the intentions of strangers on the internet. In all seriousness though, there is a decent chance that it was just a joke, is there not?

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

You can literally just select Quote under me...

And a decent chance of it being a "joke" is a shit chance.

Votable Jester1 votes

A decent chance is a shit chance, ok. Guilty until proven innocent I guess.

Nah.

WTF!? Riot makes 6 million dollars from a single skin in less than 1 month's time... JESUS CHRIST

Rakdos Cackler3 votes

Personally speaking, I bought it despite never having played cho just to help out some

ArvDaBeast3 votes

This skin also came with expensive bundles with icons and borders and if you take out the skin price the rest of the cosmetics came out be around 1400 rp in total

Reaxetion15 votes

This skin had a few extra things going for it.

  1. It was made public knowledge that the money would go to Make-A-Wish. (The main reason I bought it)
  2. It had a load of other goodies to buy with it. Loading boarder, Icons, etc.
  3. It was the only time it would be available for purchase before becoming a very exclusive HexTech gemstone item.

The 6.1M figure is not normal for a skin, but as a community we should be proud of what we came together to donate.

And thanks Rito for all the hard work to make it happen!

thank YOU!

Hey! I was actually deployed overseas during the whole event and did not know about the event until it ended :(. I would totally buy it if any way possible, as Cho is my favorite and most played champ. I was wondering if there was such a way?

TheSnowyLeopard2 votes

Should be available by gemstones? so, up to chance i think, sorry man

Reaxetion4 votes

You were deployed over seas serving in the military I take it? Thank you very much for your service.

If at all possible, as much as I love this skin, I would ask Riot, if it is possible, could they transfer it form my account to yours? I bought it to support the charity, and if it can go one step further and encourage a member of our military that would make me immensely happy. I know its a long shot, but would this be something that can be done Bilby, Riot, anyone?

RiotBilby2 votes

Welcome back! We're planning to bring it back as a gemstone skin in the future, so your best bet is to save your gemstones and get it when you've got enough. Sorry for that timing--

Mermixer1 votes

Hey i know its been 9 months already, but when can we expect that to happen?

Larriet3 votes

Honestly, I do not play Cho'Gath, and I definitely don't feel good about owning things like a Border for a champion I don't love, but I bought the largest bundle as my "charity" budget that month. :)

Reaxetion1 votes

Good on ya! I wish I had more money to give to buy the bigger bundle, but it sadly just wasn't possible*[sg-soraka]*

But hey, I am glad I could at least buy the base skin!

DeathBurst2 votes

Honestly, I'm pretty sure they still make a couple millions on every skin. I can believe that this skin's special circumstances made it bought 4 or 5 times more often than a normal skin, but I doubt this number could be as high as 20 or 30. Thing is, even 5 times less for an ordinary skin, that's still more than 1 million.

Good stuff.

Hopefully the next time there is a Charity Skin, it's for AIDS and Herpes organizations. (if they haven't done that recently.)

HyperTechno6 votes

I like charities, and this another exception. However, don't try to make this an excuse for your lame behavior at the Pax event. Most people will remember that, and using this as an excuse will just make you look even worse.

But, this is a for a good cause, good job Riot, good on you. Credit shall be given when credit should be given.

So when can we see this skin in Gemstone store?

Swift44 votes

I love the idea for Charity and I'm happy to have supported it and any future ones! Thats cool.[slayer-jinx-wink]

But hate the community for their bipolar feelings of Riot and somehow making the topic about Riot Games as a whole instead of just commenting about being happy to support the charity itself. I get that freedom of speech is a thing, but why is it that every discussion post leads to this kind of bickering about losing faith in the company just cuz ur upset about something that can be considered...petty? That's no good :( [slayer-jinx-unamused]

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs] VERY NICE!

but when will it be available again? I didn't know it was limited :(

The skin will be added to the Gemstone skins via Hextech crafting in the near future. You won't be able to buy it with RP.

Wondeful skin, and I love Cho so that plus the combination of the bts that basically made me cry made this an instant buy. Loved it so much, blessings to Bryan, and I wish Riot would bring in more community members to help make skins, especially for the champs that aren't as popular (i.e. not good enough money makers, @Rito, #ZoeGetsANewSkinBeforeAurelionDoes)

DaBroMoo2 votes

Very amazing to see from the league community!! I'm not sure if this is the first time Riot has done something like this but it should be an annual event!

Dark Star Cho'Gath is such a cutie, so I bought him despite never playing him

Captain Esude2 votes

This absolutely amazing and I thank Riot for doing such good in the world. It means that something like this can happen again. I love league even more now.
