Rotating game mode queue now live!

From the original clone-tastic One For All to the frenetic manatee magic of Ultra Rapid Fire, featured game modes provide unique spins on the classic League formula. It’s time to kick things off with the next game mode in the rotation: Ascension is now live!

As a refresher on the mode, let’s go over the basics:

Unlike Summoner’s Rift, you can’t walk out of your base to reach the battle; you’ll have to use the Golden Transcendence trinket or right-click a pad to teleport into the fray
Earn victory by scoring points; the first team to 200 takes it down
You earn 1 point for kills, 3 for capturing a Shuriman relic, 5 for landing the killing blow on an Ascended champion, and 2 points for each kill you acquire while Ascended
Claim Ascension by taking down Ancient Ascendant Xerath in the center of the map (he’ll respawn after the Ascended champion dies)
Be cautious when approaching the Ascendant, you'll need your whole team to battle him and claim the buff
The Ascension buff yields awe-inspiring power including bonus health and infinite mana, AD & AP, CDR, as well as armor and magic pen
The gifts of Ascension come with a price: healing and regeneration effects are halved and the opposing team always has vision on Ascended champs

We did touch up the visuals slightly while specially tuning Champion Mastery so you can earn points in the mode. You’ll also be able to earn keys for your wins and loot chests for your (or your premade’s) S-, S, and S+ games.

Ascension is now available and lasts through the evening on Monday (we’ll shut it down very early Tuesday morning--usually between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM).

Go into your hard drive to the riot games folder, then click on league of legends, then lol.launcher

Didn't work for me, but I found the "Launch Legacy Client" button at the bottom. And it is up in this client.

They didn't... They're perfectly aware of this. That's why you can easily launch the legacy client from log in screen. There are lots of features the beta client doesn't have yet, it's called BETA for a reason.

Featured game modes have been out longer then they've had this client in open beta. Its obviously not on their to do list, as a feature thats been in the game longer then these client changes was left out for some reason. Either overlooked or intentional to keep players in regular queues for their testing.

Why Ascension again ? Why are you guys so against giving URF ? I want to play URF. Its been months since we last had URF.

Already had enough with that 2 weeks of boring one sided massacre of doombots, now 2 weeks of Ascension in a row.

Common, everyone likes to play URF.

Petition to make it a permanent game mode.

As much as I don't like the fact that there are two weeks of Ascension and One For All in a row, having URF as a permanent would be a failure as was Dominion. Don't get me wrong, I love both of these gamemodes; I used to play Dominion a bit and URF I play whenever I can. However, having it as a permanent gamemode would start out as an amazing thing for most League players, but then the player count on URF would start to dwindle. People would start getting bored of it, and they would stop playing it. It would henceforth become a waste of space and would be removed like Dominion and put back into the RGM. Honestly, I much as I love URF, your idea would ruin it. You should be more appreciative that Riot even makes it URF come around more than once a year now instead of once a year in April. Riot has explained over and over why they can't have these gamemodes permanent, and either you don't care or you just don't read what they post. I don't mean to be rude in any way, just trying to clarify for you why the RGM is the way it is instead of permanent gamemodes.

We didn't have two weeks of URF, we had one week of URF with no choice on champion pick. Now that every gamemode rolls through for two weeks we won't see URF for a stupid long time. You remember how long ago RGM was released compared to when we got AR-URF? Double that amount of time now. Absolutely unacceptable.

As much as I have respect for the thoughts and opinions of others, I am to the point of saying this is a slap in the face from Riot. The justification that Riot delivered on it's two appearances of URF for the year is equally disrespectful. The reason people are complaining about the lack of URF is not because "Riot didn't deliver on it's promise". The reason for the complaints is because they want more that 2 showings of URF in a single year and no ARURF doesn't count, it's not URF. When you have some game modes with multiple appearances in a month, having a highly requested mode being shunned like URF just feels like Riot has zero respect for the player base as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I can understand not having permanent URF, but getting proper inclusion every month or every other month would be nice. I will ask a question to Riot along with this rant and am rather curious to know the answer. If URF is such a problem if it comes up more than once every 3-5 months, why is it acceptable to inflict Ascension on us 2 weeks in a row? What makes Ascension and the other way too common modes like One for All and Hexakill so much more acceptable to take multiple turns in the queue? I'm hoping the answer is not one of balance considering these are limited run game modes that are supposed to be fun, relaxing, and ridiculous which should throw balance out the window to some degree. If balance is the ultimate answer however I hope the Riot team will sit down and reconsider because for those who want super serious game play there is a ranked queue that is dedicated to that end. I'll admit I may be a bit salty, but it's due to the fact that most of the game modes for the last two months are just not fun and giving us URF with random champs fails as well only for the fact that there are champions that should not be played in that mode. Getting stuck with one forces you to play a 30 minute game and have zero fun. Even with rerolls having 2 or 3 unplayable champs in a row is a frustrating experience considering there are plenty of playable champs to select from for URF.

tl;dr:

URF is fun.
Ascension, One For All, and Hexakill are way to frequent.
You're trying too hard for new balanced modes, just have fun.
K.I.S.S. rule is in effect.
Random is ok, but people usually (not always) have more fun when they feel they're in control.
Please L4T3NCY, if you have no plans to let us see a game mode for the next 4-6 months don't mention it in the intro to the post. Flippin tease!

No, just a snarky dumbass who get's slapped with down-votes for spouting off irrelevant incorrect critiques about what people are saying. Which is mostly that riot needs to vary their rotating queue and it feels like URF is hardly included in this rotation like they promised. Simply, thankfulness is nice, but so is riot paying up on what they promise us as a company. No-one would complain if the Ascension URF ratio was nearly equal and not 60/1. Please contribute to the conversation next time

I was referring to your -4 reply, which is trying to convey your disdain with the comments being entirely URF, which is completely irrelevant when it contributes nothing to the conversation, ooh did i touch a nerve little guy? I didn't down-vote your original comment because it is just stating an opinion about how you like ascension, that's fine, but your reply to Paff was just a sad attempt to invalidate the opinions of the majority of the comments by dismissing it as "being a whiny brat" when it's primarily people asking Riot why they aren't living up to their statements on URf in the Rotating queue, and with no content other than accusing others of whining, i'd say yeah, the lack of anything except ignoring the actual goal of the arguments left in the comments and trying to pass an ignorant insult toward the majority as relevant content makes your reply 100% irrelevant. Thus the down-votes you received, hell i'll up-vote the first comment, but down-votes for the rest until they contribute to a meaningful conversation.

Wait second week in a row? Yes Night, and then we have one for all two weeks in a row. Rotation must be slow because of winter coming. Bruh, I take time off from work to play (AR)URF if that's the new URF mode for now on, I enjoyed it, the fact it keeps people from just the most op champs each game. Good move Riot, but I'm tried of seeing double gamemode weeks for months and then only give us 1 week of (AR)URF. I know Rank is a big money pit for you guys and having (AR)URF takes a lot of Rank games away, but toss a dog a bone for crying out-loud.

They Say urf is Stagnant yet not see in other gamemodes people play the same champs as well cause they op and then they end up banning those champions same champions every other game ex. Rengar In Ascension/Dominion, Kat in every gamemode.

This is my opinion and certain points may not agree with you.

There is a shot version of this at the bottom of the page

So I wanted to express my feelings on the comments section of the RGM and maybe clarify a few points. URF is my main concern and is what aggravates me not the game mode the game mode is fun, but the people who complain about "when will URF come back" or "Riot never listens to the community they ALL want URF". To Clarify originally Riot said they would bring URF TWO and only TWO times this year. Did they deliver? Yes along with more they gave us a new game mode combining URF and ARAM technically giving us URF for a total of 3 times this year. So why are people complaining riot did deliver what they said they would for they year. Another misconception is that everyone wants URF back which is not true people just flood the comments about URF and a lot of the top up voted ones are about URF because the same hundred or so people comment and complain about URF and support other who want it back knocking down all the useful comments such as the one that created ARURF yes all random URF was created by someone who asked for it in the comments and riot saw their comment after swimming through the top up voted URF complaints and saw this well written and long paragraph at the bottom of the comments which I saw as well and it made me happy since the comments were actually used for something to help riot create a new game mode. I love looking through the comments and see what people have to say or create such as the comics that many people make in the skin sale announcements and the free champions for the week comments as well as the very few comments that every talk positively about what riot does or the comments that give ideas to riot for game modes which are normally at the bottom of the comments section. To make something clear only a few hundred about 50 to 100 comments will be written complaining about URF 50 to 75 is about the average and that's every time the RGM announces the game modes. Now you may think that is a lot however League has millions upon millions of players who all have their own opinions and feelings about URF and the other game modes and the community is split on this many like ascension, poro king, all for one, nexus siege and doom bots. This minuscule amount of players that complains each week only complains in this comment section too which once is ok people should express their opinion however every week even after URF has not been up as a game mode since May if this really bothers you then make a boards post complain there you will find more success than in the comments of the RGM post EVERY SINGLE WEEK. I know people are tired of seeing this the same way I am or in a somewhat similar way. So if you truly want to complain do it in the boards which I have been checking and not once have I seen a popular board issue that discusses URF at all not once which tells me one thing is that people are happy without URF at the moment not that they do not want it, but don't need it to continue playing league.

To shorten this for those who just want a quick summary:

The comments has only a very very very small amount of the player base actually complaining however they up vote their complaints and others to make them seem like it is a huge issue if this is truly an issue make a board post since there is not a single popular post on URF there. Riot does pay attention more so than previous years and cares for what players think however only a small portion of players which get up votes from the same small player base share their opinion which appears the most plentiful and at the top every week which needs to stop. Riot has delivered on their URF promises which was only two times for the year so people need to stop posting the same posts every week which riot sees and most likely is doing something or has plans which people need to respect and maybe ask about that rather than complain over and over and over again.

This is just my opinion and feelings toward this issue however it does plague this post's comment section and it annoys me since other interesting posts are shut out and riot has to look deep into the repetitive comments to find them which could affect the game or create a new game mode like ARURF.

URF is by far the most popular gamemode in the rotating gamemode queue and can be proven by the amount of games played. However, they refuse to post the gamemode onto the RGMQ despite knowing that everyone will play it because some people find the "meta" of only a few op champs to be "boring"

In my opinion, that is just stupid, because every other gamemode has the exact same issue. Even the original game follows that exact same issue. There are 132 champions in league of legends (I'm not counting Ivern) yet during worlds 2016, only 56 were played. Does that mean riot should shut down league? Because out of the hundred or so games played at worlds, around a thousand champions being picked, more than HALF aren't good enough to be played once? Hell no, and this logic applies to URF.

No other game mode has the restrictive number of "meta champs" that URF does. There's like 12-16 champions that are just way too strong in URF. That's nothing like 56.
