The Mac Client is Updating to 64-bit

Hi everyone,

Starting in April 2019 (patch 9.7), we’re updating the League Mac client from 32-bit to 64-bit.

Why is Riot doing this?

Last year Apple announced that the upcoming 2019 version of macOS won't run 32-bit applications. Though League still works on the current version (Mojave), we want to stay ahead of the curve and plan accordingly.

What do I have to do?

Nothing! The client will hit live when patch 9.7 is released, all you have to do is log in and patch like normal. You'll automatically switch over to 64-bit, no giant download or reinstall needed. If you want to double check once 9.7 is live, the bottom left hand corner of the loading screen will say "Mac Beta Version (64-bit)".

Will this affect my games?

You probably won't notice any significant differences when we make this update, other than the end of game Victory/Defeat animations turning into static images. If anything else seems weird, please send in a report to player support!

Help! I haven’t upgraded recently, can I still play League?

League will continue to work on OS X versions 10.10 or later. The change to 64-bit doesn’t change our min-specs.

Any plans for Metal API?

We're looking into what efforts are needed to support Mac on Metal and will keep everyone updated.

Does this mean y’all will fix the league voice chat that is currently bugged? It won’t allow us to give permission for the client to use the microphone, so I can’t talk to my friends.

Will this update request voice permissions so league voice chat is functional again?

HOW TO FIX VOICE CHAT ON MAC AT THE MOMENT - Paste the following commands into Terminal, it'll manually open League, and allow for voice chat in game.

cd '/Applications/League of Legends.app/Contents/LoL/'

./LeagueClient.app/Contents/MacOS/LeagueClient

Still having the League voice problem. Though the hack that DanSeiderman mentioned seems to allow the mic to work. Guess I will have to launch that way for now.

Yes! Finally. But what further information can you give us? For months now since I accidentally updated my mac to Mojave I've had to play league by using the boot camp assistant to use Windows on my Mac PC. If i tried to play League on Mac Mojave it would make me lag and cause League voice not to work. Is all that going to be fixed now with this update?

So I am running OSX 10.15 Beta and it broke league. I can even open it. I just get this error does that have to do with On Mac OS X 10.15 and later, OpenGL (the API that LoL uses on Mac) will not be supported and because Apple is forcing developers to shift to his proprietary API, Metal.

Here is the error

I play on the MacBook Pro and as of today I cannot open the League client. Yesterday I was playing just fine but right now I cannot play.

To further the information, through launchpad when I open up the client 2 tabs pop up on my taskbar. Which none of the tabs respond. But when I open go back to launchpad to open up the client again a black box of the client appears but still does not respond.
