How do I even compete against clickers?

So, League has champs who quite literally do nothing but click you to death (Annie, every ADC in the game, so on), which I find incredibly boring to play. I enjoy champs that have a lot of mechanics going on, and that require more thought than just clicking on people when they get in range and deleting them. However, because of that, I tend to do very poorly in every game I play. Where champion A just clicks on me and I lose half my health (or instantaneously die), I have to rely on easily dodged skillshots and use mechanics that require a few seconds to do their thing. In the end, I just die to click spam and do maybe a quarter of their health (if any at all) in damage.

How do I play against clickers? I just don't understand how it's fair or balanced that they do more damage than anything else in the game, but that's what I have to deal with. Are ability/mechanics-based champs even viable in a game like League?

Edit: Since someone told me to list champions I enjoy playing, here's a list of them.

Ahri, Ekko, Ezreal, Heimerdinger, Jayce, Nidalee, TahmKench, TwistedFate, and a few others. This isn't an extensive list, I'll play just about any champ who isn't point, click, win -- these are just a few of my favorites.

As for champions I have issues with.

Akali (sometimes. I don't often actually see her), Annie, Draven, Fiora, Fizz, Garen, Irelia, Jax (ESPECIALLY when he's building AD/AP), Katarina, Khazix, Leblanc (Only a good one, a bad one I can handle), MasterYi (Again, a good one), Olaf, Renekton (I just can't figure out how to even hurt him), Rengar (If I'm Jayce, I can just knock him away when he jumps on me, but any other time...), Talon, Tryndamere (I have never won a lane against him), Vayne (Just beyond ridiculous), Viktor (Sometimes), Warwick (If he wants me dead, I die. Nothing I can really do against him.), Yasuo (A good one just eats me alive), Zed (R -- Dead!) --- Pretty big list, huh? xD

And, it's not that I don't understand how my champion works, or how their champion works, it's just that, no matter what I do, I can't compete with being autod for half my HP twice a second. I can even land a stun on someone like Vayne, but I can't kill her in time before she E's me away then just obliterates me. Or if not an ADC, it's someone who can just click on me and watch as I explode to their ability that insta-kills people. : /

People would need to know who you're playing specifically that you have this problem with. As for clickers they tend to lack a bit of mobility that a lot of skill shot based champions have but there's too wide a variety to really talk about generally. You mentioned Annie though so here's a little of my opinion on that. She's hindered by shortish ranges, a window when her stun is down wihile having no mobility spells whatsoever. Countered by long ranged mages in my experience, like Vel'koz, Ziggs and Xerath for example.

My advice to the post is add a few more specific champion examples and people can give you additional advice on how to deal with them with whatever champion(s) you prefer.

What in the world? Eh bro not sure what to tell you. This is a point and click game, whether it be targeted abilities or skill shots.

By "clickers" you mean targeted abilities as opposed to the "skill shots" that you prefer. Contrary to what your experience has taught you, skill shots are typically more rewarding to land than a targeted ability of similar nature. Higher numbers.

It is true that something like Annie is easier to win with than something like Vel'koz, but once you reach a strong level of mastery (the skill, not the system) with a champion, you will start do better. It is pretty much a case of "practice, practice, practice". The best thing you can do is focus on one or two skill shot champions that you want to do well with and focus on mastering them.

Also, learning the enemy champions ranges and cooldowns helps a ton. So, general game knowledge. Did that Annie just blow her stun on a CC? Punish her for it. Is that Kass' Q on cooldown? Blast him. Vladimir just bloodpooled an attack from you but came back in pretty soon? That is your window.

Last bit of advice: Always be critical of your own performance. Not in a stressful way, but in a constructive way. Be willing to observe and admit your mistakes, then learn from them. I play with a friend in Bronze on an alt account and this is the single biggest offense I see players make. It is NEVER their fault.

Most of what you are listing are assassins or carries. Which, yes, deal tons of damage. Regardless of wether it's a skill shot or a point and click ability. That's their job. Their inherent weakness is typically that the more damage they do, the squishier they are. some are constant damage (auto attackers) and others are spell based (casters) They have a burst of damage, then they have next to nothing for a set amount of time. And you abuse that window of oppurtunity if it's safe to do so. You just need to learn what is or isn't safe against each champion. No, don't go on lolcounter and just pick whatever champion it says. Learn what makes them strong, learn when they are at their weakest, and learn what you can do against it.

Here's one I'm still trying to figure out, and an example of what I mean when I say learn what you can do against it:

To this day, I still struggle against Leblanc. I know it's possible to deal with her, and it may be that my champion pool doesn't include someone that can handle her properly. But she is very bursts and very strong early in the game. So what have I learned so far? Do NOT let her snowball off you under any circumstances. Once she gets rolling she just roams out to other lanes and snowballs even harder. I haven't learned how to deal with her properly in lane yet because I don't run into her often enough, but when I do it doesn't go well. I do know that if you can survive long enough, shes not as useful later in the game. If you don't know why, that's exactly what I'm talking about when I say you need to learn. Late in the game she is mobile and can still deal lots of damage. Her issue is that she's squishy, and if you don't let her snowball she won't have the items to do her job properly. When team fights start to break out and she has snowballed, If she gets to your back line she will wreak havoc and get out. It's your front lines job to not let her get there. If she comes in from the side or behind, anyone that can needs to peel her off of the priority targets so that she can be killed before getting to them and doing much damage. If she hasn't snowballed, she simply won't have the damage to nuke the backline. As for in lane, I haven't figure out what to do with her. It could be a case of abusing her cooldowns, it could be a case of never going in range of her abilities, it could be that I need my jungler nearby before I try anything, it could be any number of things. I'll figure it out eventually, and when I do, any Leblanc I come across had better watch out.

That's one of five enemy champions. There's still 4 others on the enemy team and knowing those types of things for all of them will help your decision making process throughout the entire match
