Climbing ranked with one champion?

I haven't done ranked since Season 3, and I think I've gotten much better at the game since then. A lot of the guides/advices for scaling the ladder say to find a champion or two that you are extremely familiar with, and run them up the ladder. My question is, how can you ensure that you can actually play that champion (or even those two champions) in every game or most games? I'm not talking about bans -- my champion of choice would be Anivia, and who bans her? -- but for her to be a good choice, I would have to play mid or (possibly) support every game. It seems like unless you play as someone who can theoretically go anywhere, like Kayle or Karma , you can't be sure you'll get your champion pick.

You are correct...you simply can't do it...it's impossible. The best you can do...is master true utility champions. Lulu is a great one...solid Mid, solid support, solid top and she's rarely banned. Ultimately though...it's not going to happen as you'll be shoe horned into ADC. Here's the the thing though. If you play Lulu...and you're an A+ Lulu player....you're not going to be a D player at Pantheon. You just won't...sure...maybe you'll be a C...but that's passable.

Mastering the champ masters mechanics...and mechanics are largely shared. Your combos may be different etc...but ultimately you'll know when to do A as opposed to B...and that will allow you to succeed at roles and champions you aren't as familiar with. That's why people say to Master a champ and try to ride them...because doing so gives you the ground work to succeed on others. If you spread your knowledge too thin by trying to play 30 champs and mastering none...you'll be in a lesser state overall. Once the first one is down, however, the rest get picked up that much faster.

I say fk those guides. learning to play more champions will be far more usefull. what if you get countered? what if all your champs are banned? what if someone takes your lane? --- they say focus on one or two because its really difficult to be good at a more then that, and most people dont have the time to put into league for that. If you can play more, i think you should.

its dangerous to attempt since riot changes champion design and balance so frequently. you should try to diversify your champion pool so that you're immune to such things.

it's mainly luck. ask for mid every time and hope you get it, but be able to play the other roles. when you do get mid with your champ, you should win in most cases.

Have your champion you want to "master" then have a support champion. Unless people are duo queuing you can almost always get support..

Though trying to be a mid lane main is rough, you will get a lot of 12 year old trolls who will auto lock mid no matter what and then you either have to dodge or duo mid lol.

I pretty much play Vel'Koz every time I can. It worked wonders last season. This time around the placement games went horribly but right now it seems its a pretty straightforward climb again when I have time to play.

I use Vel mid, support and top. If I cant get mid and dont havea a tank I have a few backups for those roles but generaly if you can pump out more damage then anyone on the enemy team as a support then you are probably going to win. If you can bear your ADC crying about all the "KS".

Just start mastering Teemo. He's the only champ that can play all roles lol.

Personal suggestion is to have one or two champions for AT LEAST 3 positions, meaning a champion pool size of 3 or more. That will ensure your chances of winning :)
