Need Advice On A Few Things...!

i'm pretty new to this game. I started about 3 weeks ago and so far i'm loving this game!

I'm at level 14 and I have about 6000 IP atm. People have told me that runes make a huge impact in game, but I would need to spend a lot of my IP in order to make 2 good rune pages, since I bought a bunch of useless runes. What should my 2 rune pages look like? Which runes should I buy in order to to good in a game? Oh, and I like playing with champions like Garen, Master Yi, Varus, and Jinx.

Or should i save up and buy a 6300 IP champion and buy runes when I get to Level 30?

HELP! :)

I really don't recommend buying expensive champions with IP before you have enough for runes.

As for your rune pages, you should have at least an AD and AP page. A general AD page should have 9 AD reds, 9 armor yellows, 9 scaling MR blues, and 3 AD Quints. Your AP page can reuse the yellow and blue runes, but swap out the 9 AD reds for 9 Magic penetration reds, and 3 AD quints for 3 AP quints.

Eventually, you will need more AS, AP, crit, health, and CDR runes to fit to each champion's unique kits. I would recommend to have at least 10 000 + IP ready at level 30 unless you want to play at a disadvantage.

If you really want a new champion, judging from your preferences you like champions that can dish out high sustained damage. In which case I recommend Xin Zhao (a bit of a mix between Yi and Garen, and also easy for new players), and Sona or Annie, an easy support for a new player so you actually have someone to support with.

if you want, you can also use the games before level 30 to pick up a difficult champion such as Yasuo or Azir. It takes around 100 games on Yasuo and 50 games on Azir to bring their win rates to 50% respectively. However, their win rates will rise even higher as you become more skilled with them.

The number of runes you need when you get to level 30 takes up all of the ip you would save going from level 1 to level 30 and then some. I would recommend using your IP for nothing but saving for runes and just try out the ftp champs each week because you can get a better feel for them as they continue to rotate through.

Buy cheaper champions you like first. They changed the tier 1 runes and they're not AS punishing to not have T3(T2 now?). Making having a better champion pool more important at first.

After you got say 10 champion then start getting some of the basic runes. https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2s5snf/cheat_sheet_for_rune_pages_for_the_2015_season_as/ The first 3 off this list should be what you aim to build first. #9 is also a good one if you like to jungle with tanks.

After that do as you please. Can aim for the 16 champion requirement for Ranked if you want.

If you're willing to spend some cash. I'd suggest getting the 7 rune page bundle or one of the champion bundles.

Only buy Tier 3 runes after level 20. I'd recommend picking up a champion you really love and start getting good at him/her. Once you do, ranked will be a lot easier. I would recommend completing your rune pages by level 25 or so, because runes give you bonus stats and give you superiority over your enemy.

Specifically for rune pages, you can read the dude below me, but I do recommend buying more rune pages, as not every champion is best suited for the general AD/AP pages. Azir for example needs CDR glyphs, MPen marks, Per level HP seals and AP quints. He won't function at max capacity with say Mpen Marks, Armor Seals, MR Glyphs and AP Quints. Get what I'm saying?

If you don't heres the short version: Each champ is unique, and to pull the max potential from them you need unique rune set ups.

Side note: More then one rune page can prepare you for multiple different situations depending on your opponents choice of champion

As for purchasing champions, I personally recommend HIGH skill cap champions. What they force you to do is to practice basic strategies and tactics. For example, Azir. He is probably one of the hardest champions to learn and do well with, his mechanics are tricky as well and you need REALLY GOOD positioning. You can learn warding and stuff with any champ, but things like positioning and learning when to engage and disengage is great for difficult champs.

I am a little biased since Azir is my favourite champ so far, but Azir really forces you to know when to engage, how to stay in position, how to disengage, how to escape, how to poke and how to go all in. So I recommend Azir as a pick to learn ALL the basic and advanced tactics this game has to offer.

DON'T WASTE IP ON RUNES YET!

Wait until level 20 and buy tier 3 runes, because all other tiers are legitimately worthless (the stat boosts are negligible, and you can't do anything with them once you have superior runes).

I'd say the best way to go is buy the champions you enjoy playing until you have enough for 3-4 different ones in every role (so between 15-20 champs total) and then stockpile IP to get runes/runepages once you get to level 20 and beyond.

To be honest, don't bother buying runes until you unlock the tier 3 ones. Sure the lower tiers are cheaper but you'll have to replace them all eventually with their stronger tier 3 versions at some point, no sense in wasting money just to have to respend it later. When you do start buying them, just focus on 2 maybe 3 different pages to start. Get a good AD, AP, and maybe a tank page depending on how much you play them. Once you have those basic pages, you can use them for almost everything. At this point I would start worrying about unlocking champions. Since you are a lower level and just starting, pick a small handful maybe 8-10 champs you enjoy and focus on them. There is a lot to learn about all the ingame movements, rotations, objectives and all that stuff and if you're worried about learning your new champ you'll be less focused on the game itself. Once you've got a firm grasp on the game and many of the mechanics involved, then you can expand your champion pool since the game itself won't require as much of your attention.
