Having problems on bottom lane

Here's the thing. I have been trying to main Leona and thus far it hasn't been going well. I've been sticking to AI mostly with a few normal games with her trying out some builds to see which is better and faster to use. The problem comes in from my ADC, but first let me tell you how I feel Leona should be played.

It seems to me that Leona, being a melee champion, is meant to rush in and secure the kill for the ADC. Her E being the main initiator and her W gives her the tankiness to be able to come out alive but only for the initial onslaught. It also doesn't hurt to have that damage thrown in at the end of the first 3 seconds. In order for this to work though, you should wait for the enemy bot lane to make a mistake and subsequently make them pay for it by initiating and then having the ADC come and finish them off.

The problem is that the ADC doesn't follow this chain of events and I almost always end up dying because my bot buddy either doesn't understand his/her role or just flat out refuses to do what they are meant to. (I actually had a Graves ADC who told me to stop and just poke for now. WTF) As such, I've been yelled at in game and possibly reported for "intentional feeding" because of the shortcomings of my ADC. I'm not perfect with this champion and I do make mistakes in judgement but I just want to make sure that my train of thought is sound on the procedure of the bottom lane with Leona.

Tank champions are risky as supports for this very reason. However.. when he says 'poke', translate that into 'zone'.

That is to say, start with sweeper and sweep out a bush and just stand in it. It will force the enemy away from that area, making them easier for your jungler to gank. Only engage if it looks like he's initiating or the enemy is initiating on him. If you want someone to die, make sure to target them with 'alt-click'.

The fact of the matter is though, that tank supports require more aggressive adcs to work. Ezreal, graves, lucian, jinx. All have amazing damage in a short period of time, and/or can help you hold them in place. If someone is playing caitlyn or tristana, leona may be a poor choice, as their play style isn't bursty, but depends on poke and disengage. You 'can' take a tank support in a lane that doesn't synergize, but you should do so only if it was neccessary to fill out your team comp.

As a side note, you may want to take braum instead of leona for games that you don't know your adcs playstyle. Braum has a bit of poke and can zone, and what he lacks in hard cc he makes up for with protection. Plus he has a mustache. You can't beat a mustache.

Leona is a very aggressive support but without good communication with your adc I would not recommend her.

Her lvl 2 powerspike is where she really shines. A hard engage at lvl 2 is almost always first blood if you hit lvl 2 before the enemies.

Her basic combo as everyone knows is eqw Sometimes you will need to ewq if your going into a team fight.
Keep in mind that you can hit w while being pulled to the enemy with your e

The reason the combo is best used as eqw is for extended fight duration. E in auto attack q w. This gives max root stun duration while giving your teammate time to proc your passive from e and then quickly reapplys passive with that auto attack reset q. Since theya re stun for most of this duration your not really taking damage so that is why w is last so your not wasting any of the bonus resists.

Some simple tricks to make Leona really good.

Q is a auto attack reset. Don't use q before using e unless it is a kat who is already ulting.

Always max w first. This might seem obvious but people are not always smart. It has the best scaling for damage and utility.

Leona's passive is proced by any damage your teammates do this includes dots red buff and gromp.

With Leona's w passive resists she can build straight health early and resists secondary.

*edit Leona's passive damage counts for the person who procs it.

If you want to do damage get a sheen. E auto q aa reset does an insane amount of damage.
