Who are 'the' Champions for Season 5?

A few champions per role who I should definitely be familiar with in Season 5. After watching some LCS, I thought I should learn these champs:

Gnar Lissandra Maokai

JarvanIV LeeSin Vi

Ahri Azir Zed

Caitlyn Corki Graves

Blitzcrank Janna Thresh

Would a roster like that do me good for Season 5? Suggestions? Are any of these champs slated for major changes in the near future? I just hit level 30 and I wanna practice a set roster of champs while I save up IP for runes. Thanks for any tips!

I would not bother picking my champs based on LCS. These guys are playing those champions to the highest possible level, and unless your high elo you wont be able to match that. For top laners i personally love swain and darius. I have been playing a lot of swain lately because its just soooo easy to carry. Also, poppy is really great for people who can farm and stay safe in the early game. For mid I would recommend Brand because i personally think he is extremely strong and his outplays are insane. you can win 2v1 ganks because of his ult and strength. I would also learn kat incase the enemy team foolishly doesnt have much CC because she is the most aoe burstiest champ in the game. Honestly in mid theres so many options its completely up to you. As for ADC i think jinx is an incredible champ to master, along with draven which might take you a while. With supports i think thresh is someone you should always have down. Morgana is the best support in my opinion so learn her too if she isnt banned. A few others leona, janna and braum. I don't jgl at all but the ones that strike the most fear in me are vi, jarvan, and reksai. Hope my opinions helped!

Replace Blitz with Annie Replace Cait with Sivir Replace Maokai with Irelia

As for solo queue, play what you're good with. If you're not particularly good with anyone yet, start off with simple champs and use them to learn the game. Also, don't play ranked yet.

You just hit 30, play simple, safe champs

Sona Janna Tristana Graves Sivir Warwick Lissandra Ahri Renekton

My recommendation is simply to play champions that you enjoy playing. You'll be a lot more likely to focus on learning the roles themselves if you do so while playing a champion whose play style matches your own, and you will be more inclined to build mastery with champions you enjoy than you will be with champions who happen to define the current meta-game. Play until you are proficient with several champions that you enjoy in each role, then start thinking about playing ranked games. You'll do better upon entry than if you enter straightaway, and you'll enjoy the toxic atmosphere more if you are playing champs you enjoy. First and foremost, League of Legends is a game, and you should do your best to make sure you and your fellow players have a good time.

Of course, if winning is your favorite part of League, you could go after the safe, strong champions that currently dominate the game, keeping in mind that they will not always be the best picks for a given team comp or lane opponent. Pick intelligently and adapt. The defining characteristic of the champions you have listed is that they will do well in most any situation simply because their kits include lots of safety or lots of generally useful team utility. They are almost always viable picks, but you will do better if you learn real picking and counter-picking rather than subscribing to typical LCS formations.

You should never expect the "meta" (thats the word) of champions to stay the same. With every major patch that buffs/nerfs champions, the meta will change. It just takes one person to show everyone else that a champion is really good.

Funny... I don't see Singed on there. Although he is hard to truly master there is nothing more fun than playing singed and completely screwing up what people think is conventional gameplay. Also tanks are in a good place right now, or that might be a bit bias on my part speaking, but being an indestructable sponge who can walk into a 1v5 and barely hit half health as your team wails on them is a rewarding feeling.

And also let me just say you should definitly learn Shaco and Leblanc These are high skillcap champions but they are FUN. You can really think up interesting plays with them.

Take for instance my man Shaco try this, it wont always work but with enough time to prepare and some stupid opponets the results are amazing.

Set up as many boxes as you can in a small area. Now just.... STAND THERE MENACINGLY

seriously.

Just stand there. They (hopefully) will think you went afk or got distracted and dive you... and as soon as they do q away and wait for the damage.

Do you see what im saying here?

You can totally pick the most op champs or the flavour of the week and do.. well enough.

Or you can find a champ you really enjoy playing that is FUN for you, and destroy them. Playing fun champs is well.. fun and will allow you to think up interesting plays that will win games and leave your opponets guessing. Or maybe not. That's what i find fun afterall, you gotta figure out what you enjoy. Winning the game isnt worth anything if you have to do it with a champ you hate playing
