How do i climb above gold as adc?

Hey so i been stuck in gold for quite some time now and i need help. Last season i managed to climb to plat v by playing jungle, mainly kayle before the nerfs to her damage but i quit league shortly after that for a while and i started playing again 2 months ago. Even though i climbed by spamming kayle my main role was actually adc. The problem i had was that as adc i never felt like i had control over the game which is exactly what i had when playing jungle, with jungle you potentially have a lot of impact early/mid game since you can gank and engage first or second in skirmishes; and depending on how well you play you can set the course of the game ( couple that with kayle late game and you can't lose).

Kayle really used to fit my play-style because i didn't have to be afraid of getting bursted the second was in range of multiple enemies, now i know that regardless of what position you play positioning is really important, but in soloq there is almost no coordination and team fights essentially boil down to who can output more consistent damage in the shortest time possible. Now if i'm playing adc i cannot afford to wait in the back line until for example zed, annie and nautilus blow their cool downs before going in to deal damage, because by the time that happens half my team will be dead or half dead and the fight is technically lost. I basically feel that as adc i'm dependent on team compositions and decent engages for me to play well, and i absolutely hate this, i want to be able to carry games regardless of the picks and regardless of how good or bad my team plays. I'm aware that dominating my lane is key to success here (as well as improving my mechanics of course but that just comes with practice), dominating my lane is the part i struggle most at. This is because I feel that if my support is bad i will not be able to win the lane and no i don't want to duoq with a support because the system is designed to match your team mates with harder opponents if you duoq and 7/10 my team gets completely wrecked.

So my questions boil down to these; what is the difference between a platinum and a gold adc, is it even possible to carry your self through gold and above by solely playing adc and how do i control the flow of the game as adc since i can't be the front line. Also i don't mean any disrespect but unless you have climbed to plat or above by playing adc in like 90% of your games please don't comment. If your wondering about my game knowledge, i watched all of the clips from unswlolsoc YouTube channel on how to adc and team fight, if you know anything that he hasn't covered then please point it out to me.

Thank you for reading.

Watching videos doesnt make you better. If you cant climb to plat your not good enough. And after a long break i dont know why you expect to be.

Also, yes you can wait for them. If they dont use their cc/assasination on your team theyre doing nothing either, and if they use it you can enter the fight. And since your ranged you can most likely even provide more to the fight than them when they hard Focus you

If you are newer to bot or you had a longer break, this means you've got to take your time maybe. Or maybe you just shouldn't get mad - Platinum is the, i don't know, top 8% or so of the players, excluding unrankeds and <30s. If everyone got there by watching videos and posting a thread on the tips&tricks-section, it'd be called, (sorry), mediocre bronze, wouldn't it?

Watching doesn't. But it does if you also understand, consider and practice. Those leaguecraft videos are actually fantastic for a learner.

Don't miss up on the basics, though, if you look to adc - many a thing concerning adcs is covered in the basic mechanics etc I suppose. Also, if you don't see what you need to improve, videos are a nice clue. How about sharing some ingame material or watching some higher elo players to spot the differences in playstyle? (I mean if you can't analyse those matches sufficiently yourself, you would obviously be lacking game knowledge which would explain your struggling). You cannot really expect people to help you improve if you don't really give them any information, can you? Not even a link to the match history, nothing. Only stuff that won't help like who you used to play once and where you might've played once so people won't judge you to be "just the avg. gold", which might not be far from the truth, no offense meant.

Not as far as I'm aware. Wait, it's an Elo system. Doesn't that mean...? Not to mention you get duos when you're soloing, too. (Naturally). You rather get more duoQ opponent teams, statistically, though, I think. Duoing with someone close around your MMR won't create a huge gap to influence matchmaking and MMR rewards.

French style? And aren't most gold players actually right in telling someone stuff who's stuck at the low end of the league? Hell, many silver players would probably have all right to. Try a coach if you disrespect average board users, won't you?

I am having the same problem. ADC and SUPPORT are 1 flesh until you get at least 2 core Items, for example item 3153 and item 3087 or item 3046 as Vayne . When I am playing ADC in either in ranked or normals I can see if I am going to get fucked in 1st 10 minutes of the game due to how my support is performing. Do not get me wrong, I am not one of those ADC mains who think they are the best and they are always getting bad supports, etc..Honestly, there are a lot of good Supp players in midGold+ Elo but, when I see that my Leona is forcing the trades even if she's below 30% hp while enemy ADC and SUPP are full....I know that lane is most likely going to be lost, or when my support starts with item 3302 and he's not even trying to get the canon minion.

So basically if you are confident as an ADC you will most likely gonna lose the lane if your enemy is also confident as an adc while having a guy who's confident on support.

Also keep in mind that sometimes, your teammate is forced to play support even if support is his last preferable role.

As for the ADC choice, yes, Vayne is kinda bad pick at the moment. You may wonder why the hell is she bad when she's so good against tanks a? Well, look Vayne indeed is good at killing tanks, but, mot of the top lane tanks such are SionMaokai even fighters like Irelia and Gnar and pretty much every single tank jungler (read)Sejuani are rushing item 3110 as their 1st or 2nd item. Due to Vayne's short range, she is ALWAYS in the range of the item 3110 aura which is killing her teamfight potential. Also, all of those champions are having easy point and click toots or easy crowd control, and again, it is easy for them to catch up to Vayne since her range is 550 if I am not mistaken.

If you really want to stick to the ADC role, I would suggest you to play champions such are JinxGravesKalistaandLucian. Jinx is also a hypper carry as Vayne but she's lot safer due to her Chompers and ranged Slow, also her Rockets are bread and butter for the teamfights. As for Lucian and Graves, they are really strong in laning phase, and if you get a single kill as Graves, barely anyone will be able to stop you annihilating enemy ADC. Kalista, she's kinda safe due to her passive, once you get used to her play style, you will be able to dodge skill shoots and such. :)

Have a fun :)

I'm not a Plat ADC main, but I've supported many Plat/ Diamond ADCs in ranked 5's so I'll just give my input. You probably know it all already, but feel free to read through in case you learn something.

  1. Like someone mentioned, watching those videos doesn't really mean anything. Being able to consistently perform those skills without needing to devote much mental attention to them is what is important.

  2. Blue Trinket after lane phase is over. You need to position according to your enemy positioning, so use the trinket where they might want to flank from (or to help the support ward safely). The only real issue is when Zed can kill you without ult.

  3. Know your major threats and what they are reliant on. Annie ult is 600 range, so there are only 2 ways you are going to get hit is if you are out of position, or if she is out of position and only hitting you/ support. She is reliant on her flash if she wants to hit the back line, so consider timing it.

  4. Consider LW before IE on Vayne if they are stacking armor.

  5. Zed ult cast time is .75 seconds. Tumble in an unexpected direction (so shurikins miss), walk slightly (since your q is only for re-positioning late game), and condemn him. If he is fed enough to kill you without skills, then let your APC get ulted...

  6. Do you know your exact damage and mana costs? I'm not sure why but some people don't take this into consideration. Then you see someone who knows their exactly damage so they can turn fights in their favor.

  7. CCed threats do no damage. Consider which enemies are major threats and allies with CC, if your allies goes in with CC you can walk in and help kill them and use ult+tumble as an escape if they live. That being said you should know enemy/ally CC duration's and cool downs (or at least be ready for them to be cast). I know as a support main, silver- gold players won't be mentally prepared to turn on an enemy the second you CC them. They will usually continue to run away.

  8. I'm not sure if you are a victim of this disease, but always push and buy if the enemy backs. None of that stupid, "Oh I need 100 more gold for BF sword". If the enemy is smart they will just come back and completely zone you from that exp and make you lose even more exp+gold when you go back to buy.

  9. You say the enemy team kills your team before you have a chance to deal damage. If this is happening, then either your team comp is awful for team fighting, you have no tanky champions, or someone on their team is fed. Maybe your team shouldn't be team fighting in the first place and should be coordinating split pushes/ rotations/ looking for picks.

  10. Don't be afraid to break line of sight while your attacks are on cool down. It is sometimes helpful to break line of sight before you heal, giving your enemy less chance to figure out what happened.

Consider watching your replays and analyzing team fights (see when people use their skills, learn their timers, learn the openings. I usually use LSI, but for some people BaronReplays/ SkinSpotlight Recorder/ LoL Recorder also work (can't vouch for their consistency).

This game is all about knowing opportunity windows, creating them and abusing them. Bait the skills/ summoners out, know the timers, save your ult tumble as an "escape" when you know those skills are off cool down so they pick another target.

Here are some informative videos that you may not have watched. You can also look at Youtube channels such as ROBERTxLEE and lastshadow9. Robertxlee is currently doing a plat> challenger series as adc only. Lastshadow9 basically makes videos of his coaching sessions which are usually for high elo players. It might oppose what I said earlier about the unswlolsoc videos, but at least you can see it in perspective of uncut games.

Find a good support. Look up your team to see if anyone is a heavy support player. Ask them to support you. If you have an impressive ADC history, I doubt they will say no. It helps so much, especially when you find a support who can cover your rear end when you do make mistakes.
