[Nonmeta Position] River Assassin

This is a summary on what I have begun to call the "River Assassin" position when playing on Summoner's Rift.

You will be playing in place of a Support player, leaving your ADC alone in lane for most of the match; so be sure to warn them about this and know that they'll play more cautiously rather than balls to the wall aggressively.

Goal of this position: The main goal of a River Assassin is to gank all three lanes, while allowing their jungler to farm in... the jungle. You're providing support via pressure, and possible kills from a seemingly endless wave of ganking between lanes. Constantly providing ganks to lanes also allows your team to focus on objectives, as the enemy will be more focused on shutting you down so that you stop the endless ganking if only for a few seconds.

Secondary goals of this position: Your main source of income will hopefully come from kills, but as a sure source of income, kill the scuttle crabs. Doing this grants you a nice pot of gold, experience, vision in that part of the river, and a movement speed bonus there as well. The movement from the scuttle crabs can be crucial in ganking, as it could mean those few seconds of you getting there in time and getting a kill and CS for your teammate as well as objectives, or you being too late and giving up two kills to that mid lane Fiora. If you find the enemy jungler is having issues from the pressure you're putting on, and you're feeling confident, go and bully them in their own turf. It's a surefire way to rustle their jimmies, and possibly grant you even more rewards, as you just became that legendary Duo Jungler people have wanted to make work.

Don'ts of this position: Do not take your team's jungle monsters. Those are for the properly called Jungler. Doing this will more than likely anger your jungler, and lead to hotheadedness. Remember: Only you can help prevent jungle flamers. Don't stay in one lane for too long. Camping a lane can be nice, but camping all lanes is better and far less predictable. Do not worry about kill stealing in middle or top lane. If your teammate did not get the kill, you did. If you did, then you've got a taste for blood and will most likely be back for more. Do not kill steal in bottom lane. The ADC is pressured enough having to deal with not having a direct support, now you're taking their deserved kills too? That's just poor etiquette. Do not feel like you're the unstoppable force in the game. The only reason you could be personally doing amazing is because your teammates are amazing at working with you. If you find that you trying to gank a three man lane when you have 22/0/16 by yourself, that score will still quickly turn into 22/1/16.

Do's of this position: Have great map awareness. If you know where your enemies are and your allies are, you know where to strike and can plan when to do so. Take Scuttle over taking an enemy jungle camp. The vision and movement it grants will be far superior to denying the enemy jungler some coin. Watch the enemy Jungler over any other enemy. If they get too hands on with one of your teammates, show them what a real gank is. Be mobile. Always have some good form of mobility or access to getting somewhere fast, the faster you are, the easier it is to plan attacks or save lives.

Champions who I personally recommend, and why: Garen: Garen has lots of mobility with his free Q, as well as sustain from both his passive and W. Additionally, his new ultimate passive works wonders when you're an assassin, as you can seek out targets actively without having to worry about directly pushing a lane or gathering CS. Be the bounty hunter Miss Fortune and Quin & Valor always wished they were. Mordekaiser: Mordekaiser almost works solely with others now due to his altered W, but also excels at doing so due to the extra passive his W now offers. Since you get 100% exp while being near others and do not reduce from their EXP pools, you can freely gank without worrying about hindering your allies growth at all. You may even want to walk by your actual jungler some time and get some free, unhindered exp from him or her killing a camp or two. Helping at a camp is fine, it's taking the camp which is taboo. Twitch: Twitch can do very well as a River Assassin, as he can stealth, gain mobility and attackspeed from his stealth, poison enemies, slow enemies, and deal ADC levels of damage quickly. He is one of the many champions you could use item 3930 for this position without stealing from your jungler. Since you're killing scuttles, you're sure to get some stacks, and if you've been ganking as you should be, you'll definitely get more. Eventually you'll earn your Sated by playing the game item 3141 and item 3041 style-- without the fear of loss of stacks on death.

I have done this 'position' plenty of times now, and it is very successful if you can get your teammates to cooperate, and you cooperate with your teammates in the same fashion. It works for most any champion, but better with others, as I recommended a few of the ones I enjoy above.

Hope some people look at this and legitimately try it out. It's a fun thing to do.

I prefer playing a support, but roaming exactly like this once my adc has their main item(?).

Nobody expects the Braum showing up in top lane for that gank :3

You built item 3087 on Nami in a ranked game!?

Maybe learn current meta before you go trying to rewrite it.

terrible idea. There's nothing this position can do that either a 2nd jungler or a support (preferably support) can't do better. wrote all that and said nothing useful.

Leeching lanes and killing the mud crab isn't enough income to keep you relevant throughout the game. At higher levels of play, relying on kills is even shakier ground to lay the foundation of this "position" on. It's a bad idea.

From what I've heard, this pretty much was the meta before the rise of ADC+Supp bot. The support didn't stay in one lane. Instead, they roamed from the very start. THis is pretty much just an aggressive roaming support, and it fell out of favor because protecting the ADC is usually more important. It can still work if your ADC is in a 1v1 lane or can play safely enough to survive 1v2 bot.

"You will be playing in place of a Support player, leaving your ADC alone in lane for most of the match; " So your adc doesn't get fed if the enemy bot lane is competent what so ever meaning they will probably have to farm under tower all laning phase and miss cs and when the enemy get ganks its 1v3. best idea na :'0

i pray i never have you in my game
