Tips for entering PVP

So, I just started playing this game a month ago and I've just gotten to level 14 with only bot games. I think I got the case of that ''PVP Phobia''. I'm have no fear of losing though, just the negative people who expect us newbies to be ranked pros. I would like some tips for entering PVP and what is the basic know-how and what to expect. Right now I'm just settling down with Sona as my champion. I was using Katarina before, but now I've lost my taste for that kind of style, plus I prefer not to go 1v1 mid. So yeah, just give me your tips and suggest a champion, I guess.

Also an off topic question, what would be the best things to spend 1k RP on, in your opinion.

You should understand how to: -Farm/Last-hit effectively, if not perfectly.

-Rotate in a timely fasion.

-Know when to go all-in and when you should not.

That's about as basic as it gets, but doing the fundamentals well is important. If you can develop a good sense of when to take objectives like dragon/Baron on top of that, you're more or less set, although that should wait until you've got your basics down to pat.

Do understand you're gonna end up increasing the size of your "blocked" list exponentially as you go up. Some people are just jerks, even if you're a positive player and doing well. Don't let them get to you. Maybe play with a friend, if possible. Smurfs are gonna happen, don't bother reporting them, because Riot's given the okay to them (although they should be set to "Veteran" but some are just jerks who like curbstomping the lesser-experienced).

Just play whatever champions you enjoy the most. Learn to play them well.

Maybe splurge on a skin for your favorite champion? That's what I did at your level.

I'm kind of the same way. I just hit 30 and fear getting into the ranked action. When I am playing, I am always going to try my best, but I hate that there is always someone around to yell and complain at me no matter what I do. For example, in my last game, (my 2nd of 10 of the pre-ranking games) I played bottom lane support with Braum. I ended up 4/0/14 (game was surrendered at 22min). Though for the last ~10 minutes of the game, my bottom adc partner, Graves, was yelling at me for kill stealing. None of my kills I would consider a steal. The one he wouldn't let go of was for good reason. He was 2v1 ambushed as I was catching up to him. I leaped to a minion, just to get somewhat near and ult'ed into the group to get the double knockup, and got one of the kills. Graves cleaned up the other and laid into me the rest of the match. "Your pokes suck.... Kill stealer...learn to support....noob".

In my head, I know this person is just acting immature and foolish, but it drives me crazy having to deal with it . I spend the entire match angry and wanting to lash back out. At the end of the game, I realize the last few minutes weren't even fun because of his harassing.

My advice, definitely get into some Pvp..its so much more fun than bot games. You are going to run into these types of players, you just have to ignore them. Just reply something simple that doesn't provoke them further "It's an unranked, pre-level 30 match. I'm trying my best" for example. (Then report them at the end of the game)

For gameplay advice, I would say, watch some youtube video's of high caliber Sona's playing. Check some sites like mobafire to get build advice for her as well.

As for the 1k RP, you could send me a mystery skin ha. Really though, I would save it and try to get something you like on sale. At this point you don't need anything, just keep exploring to find your favorite characters.

Your favorite champion will probably change quite a few times so I wouldn't buy a skin with rp yet.

Try muting the annoying teammates.

There's only one way to get over PvP phobia, and that's to play PvP

And don't hesitate to mute a teammate if they start being rude, or call you out or anything. Just mute em and try to have fun.

Best thing to spend 1k RP on is a skin for your favorite champ :)

since everything else can be purchased with ip, don't waste your money on anything other than skins, you'll regret it in the long run.

Think of everyone on both teams as bots of varying levels of difficulty/skill that sometimes interact with you.

  • First thing to do: select chat and move it off screen
  • Play as aggressive as possible so you can learn. (ignore the tick tick ticks going on in chat)
  • Once you're comfortable with aggressive plays, be as passive as possible and alternate between aggression and passive. (again, ignore the tick tick ticks going on in chat)
  • Once you're comfortable with your plays, bathe in teemo's salty blood for 2 hours and be physically ready for chat.
  • (I suggest turning off all chat at first), carefully move chat back on screen and occasionally bask in the toxin.
  • You're ready for ranked solo queue. GLHF

Spend all your RP on skins, icons, and other cosmetic items you like. If you really like Sona, the Silent Night skin is on sale right now until the 6th for 520.

14 isn't a bad level to start PvP'ng. You skipped one of the worst parts of the new player experience with the glut of smurfs in levels 1-10. Become friends with the mute button, if anyone starts to give you crap just mute them and don't get tilted. A lot of the PvP phobia will fade as you play more games, realize losses are going to happen and some games you are going to get trashed, and you start to feel comfortable not only with certain champions but in the various matchups you will face at that champion.

Also, if the attitude starts to get to you in SR, I find the vast majority of ARAM games are very chill. You get the rager here and there of course, but most people just shug and go 'Eh, it's just ARAM.'.
