New to Zed. Any tips?

Sorry if this is under the wrong topic.

Recently, my friend just gifted me Zed for my birthday while he was on sale. I'm still new to playing all-in assassins and really need help. Any advice will be appreciated. Also, I mainly use tanks like Garen and Malphite, as well as sustained junglers such as Nocturne and Warwick.

Hoping to snag the ear of a knowledgeable Zed player here.

When Zed ults someone, it says that he shows up behind them after he applies death mark. Is that behind calculated when Zed starts his ult or at the very end?

I'm not a very good Zed but I've had a good amount of practice on him. You will appear behind the enemy when you reappear, doesn't matter how far they've traveled since you initially pushed R. Example, you Ult Kassadin and he flashes and riftwalks away. You will appear behind Kassadin at his new position. He carries you with him while you're in your untargetable state.

As for the basics, his easiest kill combo is: R > activate Cutlas/BoRK > Auto > E > Auto > Q > ignite > then press R again to teleport back to your ult shadow.

When chasing someone, you want to go W-E-W, rather than W-W-E. This is because his mimiced shadow slash slows (by quite a lot), but Zed's own shadow slash doesn't.

When ulting somebody, if you deal enough damage for the deathmark to kill them, a shuriken will appear above their head. Beware of being baited by Heal/Zhonya's, however.

Generally, when all-inning someone, you want to R-W where you think the'll run-E-Q-BotRK-Auto, and then continue to orbwalk after them, swapping with your W if necessary until you've secured the kill and/or are at risk of dying, at which point you'll want to swap back to your R.

In most matchups, you'll want to start either Longsword-3 Pots or Doran's Shield, depending on how aggressively you want to play pre-6. You'll generally want to pick up BotRK and Ghostblade as your first two items, after which you can build situationally (LW, Hexdrinker, Merc Scimitar, etc).
