Seeking Irelia tips - Top Lane

Greetings comrades, I am Putins Boyfriend. I would enjoy some tips/tricks anyone has to offer on a top lane Irelia. I really enjoy playing as her, although I have the hardest time in the world against tank champions (i.e. Cho, Nasus, Darius, Garen, etc.) . I can never seem to beat them in a 1 v 1 fight early game, although I'm able to chip off health at some points when they're not farming. I always seem to be backed away from minions that I could be farming, but these counters are terrible for me! I'd also like to add, once I or bottom lane pushes 1 or 2 turrets, I'm pretty viable in team fights. Later in the game (After buying my viable items) I'll start to build a Randuin's or other Armor/Magic Res item with tons of HP. Is this a wise choice, or should I focus more on damage output? I appreciate the time you've taken to read this, and am forward to reading responses or criticism you have for me. Farewell fellow Summoners!

Hey there hopefully I can help you out with Irelia, I've played her for a long time and though I don't play her as much as I used to I like to think I'm still a pretty solid irelia player.

So first of the normal starting items are usually either: Dorans blade, cloth armour, flask and pots. So Irelias early game is... Abysmal to say the least how ever she makes up for this with relatively easy under tower farming and decent lifesteal. Your going to want to hang back early on and avoid engages, lvl 4 can be a decent time to fight vs some champs but for the most part you want to avoid engages till around lvl 8-9 when you have maxed W.

First skill always depends on the matchup, vs ranged/early haras champs that can't heavy engage on you start Q to farm and runaway. Start E if your vs a champ who can beat you early and can engage: garen, darius, riven. But always max W first, you'll end up with a huge power spike and should be able to duel almost all top laners if you haven't fallen behind. Usually max E second for extra burst.

Your first core item should be trinity for a mid game power spike. Despite normal belief you do not need blade, build tanks after trinity or a second offensive item if your snowballing but then build tanky. Blade will come in handy if the enemy is smart enough to avoid armour and go for hp, so you can shred their hp with blade, useful against cho! Build boots to counter your lane, tabis vs ad like garen, riven; Mercs vs ap like cho or grab zerks if your snowballing.

Quick tips: -Proper use of W; watch out for people waiting to stun you after you use W to waste it's active. -Proper use of E; your E is a huge part of your ability to duel for example in irelia vs irelia stun her once she uses W. -Dodging with Q; your Q can be used to juke enemies for example dodging jax counter strike by Qing to a minion, remember to prime minions with ult to get them low. -Chasing with Q; use your ult on minions while chasing so you can Q for the reset. -Ult+Ignite; if you hit lvl 6 before your opponent sometimes you can force an engage, ignite and your ult does a surprising amount of damage early on. -Q+W; your Q procs on hit effects, use it near the end of your W duration for a nice burst.

Sorry it's so long, feel free to add me if you've got any more question.

About the HEAVY champions like Cho'Gath, Nasus, Darius, Garen, and etc, try getting item 3267, it'll help out a lot against champions like Garen, Nasus, or Darius, and provide some protection against the AP mid laner. You're also not really meant to kill these tanky targets at the beginning at the game because most likely they'll get Doran's Shield at the beginning of the game (A counter item to Irelia.) If you want to kill them however, make sure you have enough life steal to sustain the damage dealt by these tanks and chip away their health slowly (About half bar.) Once you've done that, Use your [W] and then [Q] To them, [E] them immediately and move to the side after landing your [E] just to ensure you don't get hit by any crowd control (specific to certain tank champions) and summoner 14 . The more attack speed you have, the better off you can maximize your [E], but having a Sheen will help greatly.

Armor and Magic Resist is good for Irelia late game as long as you have a trinity force (along with HP Items.) I'm still in the learning curve, and in my opinion, improvise to the game. Example, if your team is lacking damage, but uprising in defense, you can change your build slightly by adding a Wit's End or Ravenous Hydra / Blade of the Ruined King item.

Hey Putin's -- I play a lot of Irelia top. A lot of what has been said makes a lot of sense. One thing to make clear: when Irelia's attack speed is low, she is at her weakest. That is why she is largely a mid game champ. Against those tanks, lvl's 1-5 you can largely forget about doing much damage to them. Your goal is to farm as safely as possible. freeze lane in front of your tower. if they are really aggressive, use your q to last hit minions. when they engage simply E them to stun and walk away. dont all-in them. you can also use your E to poke them a bit. you just E, aa, walk away. triforce is your main item. start with phage instead of sheen which will give you move speed and a little tankiness. after you get phage I would make it a priority to get a chain vest for some protection. after that I would push for the triforce to get attack speed and sheen bonus dmg. beyond triforce, remember tenacity is your friend. both nasus and darius have slows you want to avoid. how you get that tenacity depends on your second item. i very often go zephyr, which gives tenacity. so you dont need the merc treads. in that case, you can go ninja tabis. otherwise, you could go botrk into mercs.

Always rush triforce as it will give you a huge power spike- she needs the mana and the extra attack speed and move speed on hit is great to stay on people to chunk. Next i would recommend boots (reg) and then depending on whether your opponent is ad or ap either go randuin's or spirit visage. the spirit visage is a very strong item for her as it increases heals from life steal. After that i would advise finishing boots. After that her build is situational; if you are doing well go blade of ruined king or other attack speed item (i choose bork for life steal and active), if you are dying a lot, build more defensive items to react to magic or regular damage. Frozen heart is a great source of health and mana as well as cdr. thornmail can be very good especially when facing a fed adc who doesn't have much lifesteal. It depends on the situation. Generally irelia will build tanky (especially in the s5 meta), but if you are aggressive, fed, or facing people who don't know how to counter, attack speed works best on irelia instead of pure damage. This is because her w gives true damage, and more true damage=better. Blender build is triforce, boots (your choice), bork, zephyr (damage and move speed), wit's end, spirit visage. Good luck

Hey Putin's BF.

Irelia is one of the few champions I actually enjoy playing top.

As it stands, first item is always trinity.

Other than that, her build is pretty flexible. I'll expound on this another time, when I have more than 3 minutes.

But! I have another idea :

your first skill should depend on the matchup you're going into, against the champs you listed I like to start Q against Cho so I can hang back and avoid ranged harass better, E against Darius and Garen to help avoid their early engage and trade better with them at lv 1 and W against Nasus in conjunction with some starting AD from a Dorans or a Longsword you can often harass him off of the first wave and try to make gaining his stacks more difficult.
