A young little ADC against the world (or atleast supports)

Ayo my fellas!

I need some advise from some of you who has some time to spare for a brother in need. So let's get straight to buisiness, shall we?

So yeah, the thing is; lately I started playing ADC (more specifically Draven), which is a role I really haven't had any interest in, because I usually play solo-lanes. (Excuse my English, I am not paying attention to what I am writing because I've a game running in the background :P)

Not to brag or anything, but when I play sololane, I am a beast. I was really good at 1v1'ing and stuff, but now when I play ADC things are much different - I am not 1v1'ing anymore. I mean, it's great to have someone beside you, no problem about that, but I have a hard time dealing with the enemy support. The AD-carries are never a problem for me in the laning phase, because as said before, I'm very good when it comes to a 1v1, but the support, maaaan.. dude just blows everything up on me and I hate it.

So I if you're a real brother and have some time to spare; I've got some things I would like to know.

How to play against the different kind of support you face against in botlane? (I really hate Blitz) And maybe: How do I play with the different kinds of support?

Thank you for reading (and hopefully answering) Peace out (Again sry for my English, not paying attention)

with blitz you just want to be behind minions. if he pulls you early on before he or his adc have too much damage, don't flash away, save it for if you really need it. when blitz uses his pull and misses, take that as an opportunity to poke and play a little less guarded.

if you're against a support with a lot of poke and you're being zoned, let them push so you can farm under tower, or try to freeze lane just before the tower. hopefully you have a support that can be threatening enough that the enemy support is punished for trying to zone you.

until you get items, support typically decides the pace of the lane. try to go along with what they're doing, if they're aggressive, be aggressive too. if they're playing passively, you should too. adcs like cait and jinx can typically do their own thing no matter what their support is doing so they're good picks if with someone who doesn't support much.

Sometimes you get good supports; the times you don't, you're better off farming CS and waiting until lane-phase is over.

If you're laning against an all-in or an initiator like Thresh Blitzcrank Leona , learn their ranges and power spikes and steer clear of those. Thresh and BC can't initiate worth diddly if you're hiding behind a creep wave. Leonas typically telegraph many of their approaches if you look at their light-shining, and their main initiate is on an 11-13 second cooldown. While you're in these safe spots, harass (or get your support to harras) since those champs are fairly useless in early-game against ranged pokers.

Against a Sona support, try to set up a kill outright. She is sooo squishy, and her healing ability costs a lot of mana.

If you're grouped up with a Braum , get those stacks applied! He's interesting to lane with because his poke is sparse (powerful, but kinda easy to dodge and a similarly decent cooldown) but his kit sorta pushes him to be in between you and the enemy. I'd say just watch for the chance to rapidly apply stacks of his passive and then use that to gain some momentum. People tend to backoff once they are in danger of that stun.

Lulu is really good at zoning people out though. Give her enough room and she can harass you with Q all day. At that point, either wait until your support can lock her down. Gotta focus her down fast, she's really annoying.

I wrote a how to guide on supporting a bit ago, I'll post it here, and then give some insights on different types of supports.

For starters, I am not a high level player. I simply enjoy the game. but I do main support and I consider myself knowledgeable of the support role. I will address the game pattern itself for the role of support, and give some insight on some items which are valuable to support champs.

For a support champ a general rule is that you build a sight stone. Thats really the only general rule. You should never lock into any definite build path on a support champ. Your role in game is broken into 3 parts. part 1 is the laning phase, and your role is to disrupt the enemy adc from acquiring cs and to provide your adc with the means to win lane. This does not mean to give kills to your adc, there is a lot of misconception about that. Though generally its more beneficial for you to allow the adc to final shot enemy champs. Also during the first part, you should look to gank mid lane should the situation arise, because you're the team support, you're not the adc support. In situations where you might get a double in bot, and you have enough health you should travel up to mid to see if you can get a kill there as well. Although this isn't widely seen, a support gank gives a utility which many mid lane players aren't used to dealing with. That being said this takes practice and experience to know the appropriate time to attempt this gank.

The role you play in game post laning phase, or part 2 is that you're a second jungler. You're still not farming the jungle, but you're roaming and giving sight to the map. making sure lanes don't get pushed into you too much, and being available for battle. you should keep areas which are common battle grounds warded and sweep for enemy wards. This gives your team the ability to coordinate plans and communicate better. during this time in the game there typically arent any major team fights. but you should try to stay close to one of your allies given they may encounter an enemy or you do. In either case you have enough cc as a support to stall the fight long enough for your ally to kill them. Since you are limited to 3 wards and 1 pink you should opt to ward one jungle or the other just to provide the best possible vision. Hopefully your jungler wards the opposite jungle side, however many dont, its not your job to ward the entire map, remember that.

The third phase of the game is the end phase. This is typically when all out team fights will happen. In this current meta I believe the role of a support is to provide engages, and cc during team fights to keep your adc or carry in general alive long enough to kill the enemy team. I like items such as face of the mountain, iron locket, and randuins omen for the added shields and cc they provide in fights which are sometimes enough to keep your team alive in battle. Support items generally also double as tank items, and you can in the late game play the role as a utility tank quite well, dependent on your champion of choice.

There are sub divisions of support champs, tank supports, sustain supports, off meta supports, and "carry" supports. while the above "guide" is a basic how to play supports throughout the typical game each of these sub categories have their own unique roles.

I have provided examples of each sub category. Tank supports: Braum, Leona, Thresh, Taric Sustain supports: Nami, Bard, Janna, Sonna Off Meta (poke): Vel'Koz, Brand, Veigar, Anivia Carry supports: Annie

I didn't list every champion who plays support above, just a few to get the idea across.

If you are playing a support champion I highly suggest purchasing a support item, if nothing more then the gold income early game. If you are looking to build a support item to completion remember to build items that have good synergy with it. For example if you are playing Braum you might purchase face of the mountain, its active effect has good synergy with randuins omen over frozen heart, or for mmr it has better synergy with Locket over Banner of command. although each item has their place and unique situations when one is better than the other in game. again build for the game, do not build the same every game.

So advice specifically for an ADC Draven. You are one of the easiest ADC for a support to target. You are telegraphing where you will be every auto attack. If you are playing against a thresh or a Blitz, you need to position yourself on the far side of the minion wave from them at all times. since your auto attacks to keep your blade spinning you have to catch it, it shows the supports where you will be, and essentially your path to get there. I honestly do not recommend Draven to a new ADC, just because supports are really strong in the laning phase. In bot lane, who wins the lane is really more dependent on the support then the adc. But as an adc your main focus is on farming cs. dependent on what support you have, they will be in charge of poke, or keeping your health up, and battling the enemy support. you need to focus on farming cs, while looking to zone out the enemy adc, and preventing them from engaging on you.

I hope this helped you understand what a support is thinking, and gave you some insight on how that applies to an adc.
