Help a blitz?

Okay so I have a friend new to the game and am trying to help them learn. I also haven't played in over a year though, so we're both lvl 26 atm. So far I've been playing their support, even though it's low lvl games I feel like my blitz play has improved a great deal, plus some opponents are legitimately hard (gold ranked lvl 30s, even ran into a master rank player one game).

Point being I'm more experienced than my friend but she's improving, personally though I'm also improving and I got to the point where I feel like I have to ask this question because we've been butting heads a bit. I try to let her get the kills but sometimes it's very difficult to not accidentally take them (especially if I'm not positive if the kill is secured or not).

My core items are sheen/tear of the goddess/sightstone. My build order varies based on how well we're holding up in lane. If I feel like we're winning and landing kills but struggling to finish enemies at times I'll get sheen etc. if the lane is stale due to enemy positioning I'll buy a tear for late game. If we're pushing the lane hard and the enemy is positioning well I'll sightstone first for example. (I do buy wards until sightstone).

So here is my issue. Last game I felt we were so dominant that I didn't need a sheen and built a tear (built sightstone second cause we were pushing hard, even though I wasn't too worried because I didn't feel threatened by any single ganker). Because of it I ended up building sheen last, but I also was able to not take as many kills on accident. Mid game we both died to the enemy Zed because I didn't have my sheen yet and rushed one out after that.

I feel like it's really important to get the ADC fed and try to get them fed, but sometimes we both get fed or occasionally (on kills at least) I get more fed than them by either accident or me being afraid an enemy will escape.

Anyways this was the last match.

My question is should I be intentionally giving up early game champion power to help secure more gold for my ADC and get the sheen later. Or should I instead just continue trying to be more cautious and maybe even lose an occasional kill in the name of trying to get that gold onto my ADC? I KNOW I don't need that much gold later game as blitz and need to be using my utility, and I know how valuable that gold is on my ADC.

I'm not sure quite what your question is, but in general:

as support, your main gold is to support your team. this doesn't mean being a slave, but helping them and causing them to help you win game.

in the start, you want to either keep your adc alive, let them free farm, or get them kills. everything is secondary really (unless your skill level is much higher and you can use the gold much better than they can).

if you take a kill, it still helps your adc, but not as much as if they got the kill. getting the kill is much better than letting the kill go because you thought that adc would get, but you weren't sure.

also, your build should be to help your team, more than yourself. if you were annie for example, building ap would still be helping your team since annie is a kill lane. for blitz, you want both movement speed and CDR for catching people.

getting item 3222 might have helped vs zed's ult on your adc, but she only died once which says that he didn't go for her or just couldn't kill her.

here's how I look at it if you were in a slugfest with the other team and you happen to get the kill, so be it. If you are intentionally taking kills not so good. KS sometimes means kill secured. If you're not sure if they are going to escape or not punch they faces! Remember if you are killing their ADC you will automatically have your ADC at a gold advantage. Oh and try going AP blitz crank... So much fun.
