Secret strategy to win in the loading screen!

A lot of players might be wasting the sometimes lengthy amount of time they have as the game boots up, but I have a secret technique to improve my odds of winning that I use while you're waiting for that one guy who somehow installed League on his microwave. Instead of sitting their thoughtless anticipation, review the skills of the champion you selected. When I say review though don't think just about the ability description verbatim but analyze how you might use each skill in your lane match up and in teamfights later on. Also think about how your opponents my react to your budding strategy. Remember, you're playing vs other human beings and match making generally is pretty good at making sure your opponent is as crafty as you are BUT for best results its best to actually assume that you're always matched versus someone SMARTER than you. Think such as "I'm playing Nasus top vs Riven, as soon as we walk into lane I want to start Q and farm up stacks but she knows this and will punish me by spamming her Q and chunking me real hard. However if she does it in my minion wave she'll take minion agro when she uses her passive and the aoe will push the wave towards my tower real quickly. Our Udyr jungle is starting lower side jungle so he'll be in perfect position to gank when she pushes the wave to far and if she continues to use her Q for harass she'll be easy gank bait at the perfect timing for Udyr to come and kill her."

Something like that should form your overarching pre-game plan, now flesh it out with item builds. Some champions have flexibility in their starting items, so think about which of those item starts will best synergize with your strategy then how it would help you combat theirs. Think about what items you want in your full build this game by thinking about what gaps you have in their team and what strengths they have in the opposing team. Your the only melee champion who's not an assassin and the support is Nami and their team is playing Rumble, Amumu, and Xerath? You can plan on asking her when the game starts, "Can I build Locket so you don't have to? I'll have the money sooner as a toplaner, besides I would like the CDR it gives too! :)"

Games that you have a chance to form a game plan before you even spawn in will almost always go better than those you just "wing it" in. You'll waste less time in base figuring out your build, or aimlessly meandering in the jungle not knowing what the next step is towards victory, or just plain being distracted or not knowing the mechanics of a certain lane matchup and getting run over because of it. Big words you should use for yourself are "how" and "what if" and ask them constantly, never stop evolving your plan and adjusting it, and when the time calls be ready to adjust it to the live game because you won't always plan things out perfectly but that's ok, your opponent was also using Maximum Shyvana's Secret Technique and you should admire that this is a real battle of wits and not button mashing. Best of luck summoners!

(or make sure everyone on your team has a skin, if the other team doesn't then it's gg!)

I loved the "while you're waiting for that one guy who somehow installed League on his microwave" part.

There was some streamer that would look through mana costs and cooldowns of his enemy laner during loading screen, forgot who it was.

Nah, that sounds like a lot of effort. I'd rather just sit around and play agar.io while the game loads before facerolling into lane completely unprepared.

Thanks, this was helpful. I tend to check lolcounter a bit for my match ups but actually checking my abilities and how to use them to force their abilities and win lane is a cool idea too.

Agreed. I also try to figure out a plan for teamfights "im the only one protecting 3 squishies, better just sit on the Riven" or "we have a lot of peel I'll just walk over their backline"

Double secret op strat, get used to playing a few champions in your main roles so this becomes habit. Know the different ways that the match up tends to go so well, that you can start to guess not only how they might want to play based on champs, but what will change based on items/runes/masteries that will let you beat it, or make it difficult. Then you can adjust quickly when you see their skill level w/ the champ once you start trading.

What if the enemy team is doing some unconventional combo where you can't tell who is going in which lane other than the jungler?

The one thing I ALWAYS forget to do is check the summoner spells. Like, I'll figure that I could survive one round of burst from Leona/Graves if I get caught out, so I can afford to go a bit ballsy with harass, cos then even if I screw up, I won't die anyway. Then I end up getting caught, survive the round of burst like I thought I would and walk back to turret... ... And have an ignite ticking on my face and DIE cos I assumed Leona had Exhaust. Oops.

I think this is a pretty common thing, though, cos the amount of times I'll play Lux with Barrier and have someone try to dive me for a kill... It's basically the main way I get kills before I get my Luden's.

Good advice!

Yesterday I was bot with a Thresh who was a bit tired. At one point he hooked alistar, then went in for the flay. Ali q and then headbutt him under turret and he was like 'sorry, i forgot we are playing vs alistar'

He was really cool and pretty good at thresh but he definitely didn't think that one out too much :P
