Serious question

Look, I know this one sounds like a "general teammates are bad" thing, but....

What do I do when just one or two teammates ignore all apparent forms of strategy or reason, ignore all pings, never communicate, and hang around an unwarded enemy jungle chasing a full HP renekton at 20% health, or wander up for a tank on tank fight and literally right click party until the rest of the enemy shows up?

FYI, even when not supporting, I tend towards champs with a supportive edge (sion* for top, morg mid, even kayle in the jungle, and so on) because I just don't do very well as the primary carry, and I freely admit that. What I'm asking is whether anyone knows how to get these guys to stop COMPLETELY throwing, and instead just...take an objective. or at least only kill hunt when it's reasonable to think they can get one.

*yes, Sion is a tank, but with that peel and zoning potential, it's a supportive playstyle; you're rarely doing the actual damage yourself.

To pre-emptively answer a few of the more expected clarification questions:

  1. I ping MIAs. yeah, I'll miss a few, most notably when they recall and never come back, instead going to another lane.
  2. I'm always looking towards an objective, and will sometimes try to get my team to ignore enemy champs to move the fight near one we can take if we win. This rarely works, and I know I can't safely solo many as a support or an immobile mid (say, anivia).
  3. I do get a bit crazy on the retreat pings, but when koggles is alone near their bot inner turret with no wards anywhere except baron, I tend to get nervous and ping him back. He'll ignore, so I run out of pings.
  4. For my rank, my mechanics are, at best, just a little above normal. I do not play MASH EVERYTHING champs, like zed during an all in or ryze. I have detailed thoughts (total strategist type) but am often left unable to properly communicate them, as I get verbose and often cannot type enough to get my points across.
  5. of course not.

You play support right?

Because I think it will be useful, I'll preempt my post with this first:

{quoted} so I run out of pings.

You want to know what is the best way to get your teammate to ignore absolutely all communication from you? It's actually not "Start a spiteful argument with them in chat".

"There are nine other people who get to decide the outcome of the game in League of Legends."

The short answer is: You can't. As in, you can't control other people. Sometimes, a teammate is going to decide wrong and I bet there are going to be maybe four or five other people who want to decide something different than you. As for your team, you can't play for them and make sure they win lane. You are going to get people who don't know their champ, didn't know the best option in an instance or just had a bad game. And again, you can't control other people. That's the way it goes, you are going to get people who are going to do what they think is best to win.

I believe in charity. So, I see there are at least three realities to the situation.

  1. You know what is the better strategy, but your teammates would just ignore everything.
  2. You know what is the better strategy, but you have not communicated effectively.
  3. You know what is the better strategy, but you have not convinced them.
  4. You are recommending a strategy, but your teammates are actually disagreeing with you. I know there are times when going for a tower, or dragon or what not is not good idea despite what my teammate says. (Even ignoring when there are times when it's better for a tower to stay up.) Teammates have "chatted" to me about towers; They didn't understand the reality of whether or not my tower should have fallen. Or for instance, people say go for dragon and I go along with it (I guess because I am so nice). 10-15 seconds later there's two dead and an enemy dragon buff.

Enough about the situation, what can I advise you to do? First, there's things you can work with despite this. Teammates "never communicate" isn't actually an issue that's unnavigable. Like if your teammates don't ping MIAs, that's fixed by having better map awareness. You can also work to get better at communicating with system that you have available, #2 which I do believe is something you are aware of.

If you make sound calls, your team will tend to listen. Be the shot-caller and learn to make good calls. Also, people will not listen to someone that is not doing well, so if you are someone who typically does not do great in lane, be a bit more passive, and just farm. High farm> sometimes kills/sometimes deaths. As to number 4, learn to be concise. There is no need to explain why when you make a call, just do it. If you want to ambush, ping the bush. If you want an objective ping the objective. If you want to make to grab an objective off of another objective, just call it in chat or ping it before the first objective goes down. That's the advice I would give.

In those situations i always try to talk to the people ignoring me as if im asking their opinion because i am realizing people always reply if they think they can be the one to take charge ha. I will say something like " Im thinking we should push mid, hey ( insert name ) what do you think? Do you think that will work or do you have another idea that might work better".

that works for me, hope it helps!
