Advice about ranked

So I started ranked and got put in silver 3 but since then all that seems to happen is that I'm going down in ranks slowly in a zig zag shaped pattern. Is there any point of me continuing ranked even as I do a whole lot better in team builder and get the positions I feel like playing also I am currently silver 4 with 14LP.

Sincerely, being too careful about your ranking and play to learn. Ranking will come with it.

I'm glad you didn't jump on the "my team always sucks" train though.

The best advice I can give you, is watch the replays of your games. (mostly those you lose, but those you win could help you as a start still). Don't watch them right after you play them, at least an hour or 2 after you played them. Your mistakes will pop up to you.

If it isn't enough, go check the old GBay99 videos, it'll help. His new stuff isn't educationnal really.

Play norms until you get better at all or most roles.

Make sure you have a small champion pool of under 18 or so champions. Make sure you can fill in every lane and practice as much as possible. There's no magic.

Learn to play league of legends, instead of a position you feel like playing. There's nothing wrong with being casual, but you really need to like the competitive level of the game if you're gonna take a part in it.

Like Arcinex said, play normals for practice.

Have at least 2 (preferably at least 3) champions of each role (top, jungle, mid, support, ADC) that you can play consistently decent with.

Try to pick champions that you might be able to carry a team with, rather than more passive champions. For example, I like Volibear for jungle because he's very tanky, can pick people off, has good damage, etc.

It's a good idea to pick champions and counter-counters to them... e.g. if you know you struggle against Zed as Katarina , consider learning a counter to Zed such as Lissandra .

It always helps to have a friend to duo queue with as well -- someone you can rely on and work well with. If you can voice-chat with them, even better!

Also, always remember to be kind to your teammates. I've had games where I've just been struggling and getting really angry, but one kind soul on our team just stays positive and encourages us to do things right in a nice way. Be that guy. Don't be the guy that rages because he doesn't get to play the role he wants, or the guy that blames his teammates for everything, or the guy that ignores his teammates because they made mistakes.

Finally, WARD! Always ward! Tell your teammates to ward! Wards win games! Remind your teammates (and yourself) to upgrade the stealth ward trinket -- the upgraded version gives 1 free ward every 60 seconds and the upgrade only costs 250g (requires level 9). Wards are crucial to winning -- the team with more map awareness is the team that can take advantage of opportunities.
