How do I Quinn?

Hi community! (TLDR HELP ME PLAY QUINN!)

As a platinum AD main, it really just dawned on me that I cannot play top lane at all ; my implied champion pool is almost entirely melee tanks that just eat poke and don't really hard carry through decidedly winning lane and I want to try my hand at the 'cancer ranged top lane champion' shindig. Can anybody give me a bite sized version of how I could go about playing and carrying with Quinn top lane?

when ur lane opponent is targeted with your passive: AA>E>AA

thats about it. other than that just farm and harass them when they go for that low minion thats too close to you.

when ur ready to all in and finish them E+AA+R. Q when in mele range and finish them off by deactivating ult. if they are still alive, you probably chased them past the minion wave by now and they are marked again. at this point even the tankiest bastards die to a garunteed double passive proc. wait for the mark to almost wear off, hit them, they will be marked again. hit them.

You shoot the other laner? especially when you get harrier on them they tend to back off once they are marked but ... when you can, it really hurts

if they have a gap closer, your position.. or rather your angle is VITAL Anytime they hop on you, simply vault to disengage, slow them, mark them wth harrier for bonus damage Of course, angle is important when you vault This should kinda help you visualize at what angle relative to theirs you would want to position yourself Imagine a straight line, with points starting at their position leading to your position then finally a imaginary 3rd point behind you you want to make sure that, that 3rd point is toward your turret or toward safety

They dont have a gap closer or you are feeling confident? wait till they are marked with harrier->AA->E->AA for nice burst... they should fk off

executions are rather weak but simple R->E->AA->Q->AA->R, you may or may not even need AA

Holy shit you are in dire need to escape a gank? Well if they are coming from behind you, simply flash behind jungler and vault off them to gain even more distance + slow angle is important as always

may i suggest vayne tho? shes even more toxic in top lane. you can even build her tanky after a bork so your team has a bruiser. if you max w, you do enough damage level 9 to make randuins or banshees your second item

The build helps a lot! I go (+/-): summoner 4 summoner 3 item 3111 item 3022 item 3153 item 3071 item 3035 item 3026

Of course items should be switched out, but generally picking up a Giant's Belt + Vampiric Sceptor first back does the trick for me. I also run armor, armor pen, and CDR runes + bruiser masteries (sometimes scaling mr if needed).

My goal with Quinn top is to be a fairly safe lane bully. Even if they catch me in a gank it takes way too many resources to make it worth their time. Early to mid I harass and farm, get a few ultimate ganks off in mid or jungle if I'm ahead enough, then ward and split into late unless my team needs me where I then become a psuede assassin for the opposing adc or a god-like peeler for our's.

I find this also works in bot lane if you're going for a semi-kill lane. I also pick up item 3302 on top of my support's so we get an early gold lead.

Edit: I wanted to add I never actually buy GA, lol, it's just in my mind the item I think I will pick up then don't. Assuming top or mid is AD I pick up item 3068. Spirit visage is also really good I've found, assuming they have enough AP to make you care.

i dont like bork on quinn. her harrier passive scales with flat AD and it's where most of her damage comes from. quinn is like an assassin mixed with a marksman so i like to build her that way.

in bot lane i use the standard IE -> shiv -> BT -> LW build

in top lane I generally like brutalizer builds to help get the early snowball rolling. you can build IE afterwards and then finish your Yoummu for some synergy and pick potential. you have decent waveclear even without shiv so IE -> Yoummu -> BT/LW is just fine for top lane quinn.

Biggest key to quinn is picking off the enemy AD carry. If you ever see them solo farming a lane, go into a place they can't see you, ult, rush to their lane and assassinate them. I dont think there's a single adc in existence that wins a 1v1 with an ulted quinn. I generally pick up several kills every game from this strategy alone. Later in the game it can have a really big impact for pushing towers as well since it's basically never safe for their adc to shove out lanes without support.

After 500+ games with Quinn here are some tricks:

  1. Harrier is your friend, however the enemy doesn't seem to feel the same way about it. So when the mark lands on the enemy and they start to retreat when you chase them, do this: Pretend that you are giving up the chase by turning around and going back, but then immediately resume chasing them. What happens is kind of funny... Typically the enemy will immediately stop running away and for some reason they will come right back toward you. Almost like you are puppeting them. This works for me about 80% of the time, which is quite remarkable. It allows me to then get just close enough to land the AA and deal the extra damage.

  2. Always save Vault until you know the enemy has used up any gap closer or CC skills they might have. This will allow you the best chance to disengage and escape if you are getting all-in'd by the enemy.

  3. With that said, sometimes it's best to Vault DURING the enemy gap closer. Learn which enemy gap closers you can cancel out with your Vault. It's always fun laning against Jax with Quinn, because her Vault cancels out his leap... which leaves him fairly defenseless against you.

  4. Quinn can cancel a lot of enemy skills. Anything that involves channeling before the skill fires off can be interrupted. So for example, you can interrupt Shen's ultimate to prevent him from teleporting. Oh, and you can interrupt all teleports for that matter. :)

  5. As Nasreth mentioned, picking out squishies who are isolated is your best mode of attack for Quinn. Though there are a COUPLE of ADCs that give you problems. Mainly Tristana who has the ultimate disengage abilities. (ult pushes you away, and she can also hop away even further) Vayne gives Quinn the most issues because Vayne can disappear momentarily to remove a lot of your burst, and can pin you to a wall to really screw you (especially in Valor form)

  6. For super tanky champs when you try to all in them as Valor, you might not succeed on the first burst... But fret not... Just disengage them and wait for your skills to go on cooldown, then swoop back in as Valor and repeat your burst combo. You can do this boxing "in and out" maneuver until the tank is dead. :)

  1. If you play Quinn ADC and you go up against a tough/aggressive lane... just let them take the tower. Seriously. Quinn scales WAY better into mid/late than almost any other ADC when it comes to sheer 1v1 ADC potential. You don't need to win bot lane, you just need to make sure you don't feed the enemy ADC too greatly. Typically when you lose tower first, the enemy bot lane gives up the lane and roams... leaving you with plenty of free farm and a MUCH easier time taking their tower. This is almost shockingly stupid by the enemy team but I see it happen frequently. They win lane and then proceed to leave their land completely... giving you a free tower to take. Like I mean... isn't the whole point to defend your tower? It's like they think they have "won" so they just stop playing the same game.

  2. To go along with 7... if you're losing lane and you get to level 6... roam with Valor! Use this opportunity to gank mid. They won't stand a chance.

  3. Sometimes the game drags on forever and everyone is at max item build... The next big team wipe will decide the game... what should you do? As Quinn you work best as an assassin, picking out anyone who strays from their group. One slightly crazy technique is to sell your cheapest item (usually LW or something) and then buy 3 stealth wards. Ult into valor mode and go plant the wards straight up in the enemy jungle. (near camps or intersections) Then, recall and rebuy your sold item. (make sure you have enough money to rebuy the item) Tada, you now have nearly full vision of one half of the enemy jungle. Your ult should be on around a 60 second cooldown or less... You have wards that will last a couple of minutes... so do the math. Your ult will be back up while the wards are all still active. Giving you perfect chances to catch someone out and assassinate them safely.

  4. If you get ganked in lane, make sure to not panic and to think about the best way to gain as much distance from the enemies as possible. Usually this means taking a few hits of damage so you can position yourself better for a Vault away. ALWAYS Vault first and Flash second. It's kind of useless to waste your flash just to have them flash on you or gap close to you again anyway. If you Vault away, you get maximum distance away and then you can Flash for even greater distance. Another combo would be to Vault > Flash > Ult if you are really in a bad situation.

  5. Don't underestimate the time you have in Valor form. It's TWENTY seconds. You can literally ult to escape a fight, then circle back around, wait in a bush a few seconds for just the right opportunity, and then fly back out and go on the attack. Never ult out of Valor mode until you absolutely feel you need to. One big mistake I still make is ulting out of Valor in order to try and get the execute damage, falling JUST short of killing them, and watching the enemy dash away from me with 10HP. It's the worst feeling and you feel dumb for giving up your own huge movement boost that would have let you catch up.

  6. Play mid Quinn. Trust me. It's the best. Typically you are up against super squishy opponents, and you can usually wreck them in 1v1 fights. You have the best opportunity to roam at level 6 when you're mid (you can go top or bottom) I usually bully the mid laner pretty hard. Just make sure your team knows what you are doing because a lot of people don't take kindly to their precious meta being tampered with. (MAH AP!!! WE NEEEDZ AP MID!"

Quinn is best played against mostly squishy team comps. Those are quite possibly the easiest games to win, as you can pretty much delete anyone on the enemy team. Be weary of playing matches vs multiple tanky champs or assassins however... those matches can be a nightmare.

(weird, I literally had these numbered 7 through 12 but the forum automatically resets the numbers starting at 1... that's kind of dumb, Riot. Please fix.)

You could just bring an AD you're already familiar with. Ones with escapes are particularly good top lane, like Trist.

It seems that Vayne can Tumble and ignore Quinn's blind. You might wanna keep that in mind if you face a Vayne top.
