I've been practicing with Nami and thresh a lot I was wondering

  1. When do u pick nami over thresh (vise versa)
  2. What champ do u prefer for the solo Q climb ?
  3. If ur team is getting behind, what do u focus to get back in the game ?
  4. Do u roam before u get boots of mobility ? Pre-6?
  5. Should I be rushing boots of mobility over sightstone ? If so when ?
  6. Any twitch streamer I should watch to learn supporting ?

Thank you

  1. Likely based on match-up. Consider the Marksman you're partnered with and their needs in lane. Though neither are my personal go to supports, as I prefer Lulu who can be flexible enough to play against most supports and can be swapped to other lanes if desired.
  2. Lulu of course, due to the flexibility of her kit. Janna, Sona, and Leona are also known strong support picks. In the end it should be things you can play and use to your advantage.
  3. I try to focus on defensive vision control and its always best to be close to at least one person on your team. There's no point in getting caught out by the enemy. 4 and 5. Depends. Mobiility Boots aren't the sole thing some supports take. If I so desire Mobility Boots, I consider building them before or after the Sightstone. Buying them both mean you'd have to back with 1600 gold, but it should depend on; whether or not the enemy support is roaming and you need to keep up with them, or if you'd rather ward and give your team vision beforehand. Whether or not I roam entirely depends on the marksman in question and their mobility, whether they intend to safely farm or roam themselves. It varies through the different division and such.
  4. Xpecial streams from Azubu, other than that you could try looking up on Twitch and other streaming sites for support players. I would suggest logging into the game client and watching some of the featured games, just focus on the support players.

Also, something to consider is that flexibility is important, along with maintaining vision control and playing your champion to their strengths. Don't immediantly jump to do things other people do. Play what you're comfortable with and then start bringing other champions in and picking them up. Don't neglect runes either.

  1. Lane matchup is huge. I would gladly take a thresh into leona but I would in no way take a nami into a leona. But that is me, just learn who YOU do well with against specific champions. Also if my marksman is more of a safe pick (cait) Nami really shines with the ability to be aggressive defend and have sustain. Thresh works well with more aggressive marksmen (draven lucian)

  2. Nami, thresh, (leona can be hit or miss as you are super reliant on your team)

  3. Keeping your team organized and keeping up ward coverage.

  4. Depends on the game. Sometimes I don't get mobi boots that early (or at all). If you completely roflstomp (or get roflstomped) in lane it may be beneficial to roam but usually you need to stay in lane to maintain a lead or not get behind.

  5. Depends on game (see a pattern :P) and on champion. I rush whatever item is currently needed most. (Example on nami my typical order goes >chalice(with wards)>t1 boots > (either sightstone or more mana regen) > mobi boots > sightstone if not picked up yet) Sightstone isn't immediately needed as long as you keep buying regular (and vision) wards.

  6. You could watch almost any high elo stream and watch the supports.

Here are your options.

  • Choose a support to cover your ADC's weakness.
  • Choose a support to cover your team's weakness. (No escape, provide it.)
  • Choose somebody with CC, if your team has none.
  • Don't choose champs if you can't land abilities. (Unless you are practicing.)
  • If you are good when certain supports, counter shouldn't matter. Everything is skill matchup.
  • If you rely on counter picks, learn why they counter them.
  • Choose someone that synergize with your ADC. (Provide combos. Some champs can chain CCs or output tons of damage while CC'ed.)

Items.

  • Buy what you need, but still ward. (Even if you have to buy wards.)
  • Boots if you are out of lane a lot.
  • Sightstone if you are pushed a lot. (or if mid is getting ganked a lot for bottom jungle.)
  • Items to cover weakness. --- Team full AD and have an AP champ? Cover the AP side and build AP. --- Team need a Tank, build tanky. --- Team need more utility, get the items.
  • Items are situational for supports.
  • I usually rush Tier 2 support item for gold income.(You don't have to do this.)

Nami and Thresh aren't the only supports out there, but for your first question.

Nami

  • Team Peel
  • CC
  • AP or Utility (Can go slight tanky.)
  • Heal
  • Speed Boost
  • Chase Kill (Careful with chasing. Chase only into wards. Objectives more important than kills.)

Thresh

  • Engage
  • Rescue
  • Individual Peel
  • CC
  • Tanky or Utility (Can go AD or AP.)
  • Shield

Also, if your team needs exhaust grab it. Most times the team prefer you go exhaust than ignite.

That's all I got so far. I'm sure I miss something though.
