  • Irelia: Easy to learn, considered as the best soloQ toplaner by most people but not so often banned. She has sustain and a stun when you're lower HP so she's really forgiving. If you learn to play her you can also really punish your opponents. "learning her" is mainly learning the matchups and decisions to make as her mechanics are really easy.
  • Wukong: My personal main champ and IMO the strongest champ for soloQ. He's been consistently at 53+% winrate and I wonder why he isn't more popular (pros don't play him). He doesn't have the best laning phase, but it's easy to get by and you can sometimes punish really hard if you play him well. His strength doesn't come in the lane, but in the teamfights. His ult is amazing. Even if you go 0/5 in lane, you'll be a valuable member of your team lategame (your lane opponent will be a beast though, so don't do this). An AOE knock up with a zoning capacity (people want to get away from you asap because of the continuous dmg) is awesome in teamfights. His E AA Q hydra AA combo can burst squishies in one blow when you're ahead or atleast bring them low if you're behind. Oh yeah, and black cleaver will turn all enemies into squishies for your ADC as you ult them.
  • Renekton: One of the best laning phases, you'll rarely lose them, but your lategame is not that strong so it's best if you actually get ahead in lane.

All 3 of these have pretty easy mechanics and are pretty stable (won't be nerfed soon). ATM Darius, Garen and Fiora are really strong (and easy) but they'll be nerfed next patch.

I personally enjoyed Garen very much. When I started LoL, he was the first champion that I played. Now I have 130+ games with him and almost 70% win ratio. Very easy mechanics, high rewards for doing well. You can't do wrong with him. Someone is ganking you? Use your Q to get back safely under your turret. The enemy want to trade? Just Q-E and then W so you can walk back and take minumum damage. Another very easy champion is Darius and at lower levels(if you didn't hit lvl 30 first) you won't get countered, because the new players doesn't realise the weak spots of him. Ye, you have no escapes, but you can use wards. And if someone come to gank you just use your Q to heal while you go safe under your turret. The trading is very easy too. And another easy and good champion, that isn't played too much is Jarvan 4. Great escape, great engage, great trade(thanks to his passive and very good ad scaling on Q). And even if you fall behind with Jarvan(it won't happen too much times, because he doesn't have a hard counter like other champions) you just build tanky and help your team as much as you can. Btw, take care of your ultimate, don't get your carries stuck in there. Use it wisely and as much as you can. If you can't use it in lane, then go mid and ult the enemy...you have a very high chance to get a kill if the enemy doesn't have his flash or a dash. If you do well in lane, you can go for a bruiser build, because Jarvan scales very well with damage. You can get swiftness boots and dead's man plate(for movement speed) and split push....anyway, you get bonus attack speed from your E, so the turrets will be a piece of cake. Don't forget to upgrade the trinket after lvl 9 or buy wards, so you can ward the area if you're goin' to split push.

If you are a support main just play lulu in top, you can just waveclear and it still feel like supporting later in the game

MonkeyKing is freelo top if you build Black Cleaver. Plus he is pretty safe and doesn't have many bad matchups.

Everybody will give their opinion... because there's not a "fact" answer.

If you enjoy support, then try Volibear, Shen, or even Leona.

I was the same as you.. I wanted to learn top because I hate being 'squishy' then get focused. -___-

Anyway, I started with Garen (before rework) then Aatrox (though he isn't the best right now).

Shen is one of the most versatile top laners to be. And he does have some supportive qualities to him. His kit can be built offensively, defensively or anywhere in between.
