How exactly do we get better?

Over the past few years, I've found myself to be a very cocky individual. You know the whole "I deserve diamond!" thing. Always complained that these silly teams were holding me back. But now realizing that I'm not really the best player, I can't really blame anyone but myself. Currently I'm gold 5 and climbing. But I want to know what you higher ELO's think that the majority of us lower ELO's do wrong. Or where most of our mistake are. I will say, mechanically I'm okay, I farm well... And by that I mean I understand it's importance and grab all of it that I can, I understand objectives well.... meaning that I know Inhibs always trump dragon, and that turrets actually open up certain parts of the map for your team to control, and then I don't know. Is there something I'm missing? I still have an average win ratio. Of just about 50%. And when I watch these streamers smurf, they have nearly a 100% win ratio until they get to plat division. Like Gosu. (I am a Gosu fan btw). So obviously I am doing something wrong. And games CAN be carried by one single person even if teamwork is that important. So where do you guys think the most common problems are in lower tiers?

First of all, Don't compare with them. They are professionals for a reason. As a diamond player that climbed on my smurf from bronze to now gold, my win rates were around 85% in bronze, 75% in silver, but around only 67-70% in gold.(I'm only diamond 5 tho).

You can't carry every single game single hand is what i wanted to say.

Now, what people can do to play better. Communication, map awareness, positioning and warding. Know when and where to put the deep ward, when to engage/disengage. Itemization flexibility against the enemy team comp/items.

Do you ward? It's extremely important and most people (Including myself) forget to buy wards back at the shop.

Sometimes I forgo completing a big item to nab three wards, if I'm also running a Sweeper.

I think Sun Tzu put it best.

If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

The greatest strength is knowledge, and the greatest failing is the lack of it. Know your opponent's champions, and how they tend to play. Know your team's champions, and how they tend to play. Make use of your strengths, and exploit their weaknesses.

I've heard that the single most important thing that low Elo players are lacking is the concept of zones of control. Anytime your opponent gets close enough for you to do something to them, they've crossed into your zone. You should act appropriately. And you must not enter their zone unless the benefits of your action outweigh the risk of their reaction. This is a complicated thing to understand. You have to know ranges of every ability, damage potential, time abilities, time summoner spells, etc. If you're laning against Annie and she goes flash W Q ignite AA, and you die from it, what were you doing inside of her flash+W range at such low health? You have to understand what your opponent is capable of and the exact range that they can do it from.

You need to work on itemization as well as knowing your power spikes. Higher elo players win games in elo lower than their own because they don't make as many mistakes and know how to react to an enemies mistake. I usually recommend people learn how to win lane and then learn how to not throw.

my d1 friend has 70% win rates through plat into diamond just depends how good you are at carrying. Everything combined is why you are not a better player, you can get to diamond with mechanics alone most players just dont have the game knowledge or mechanics or both
