A New Caitlyn Tactic That Completely Zones Out Your Enemies!

Hello! So i have discovered a new way to zone out the duos in botlane with a Caitlyn tactic. Now, before you have your comments, this tactic is very risky and is flawed in a myriad of ways, but 50% of the time, it works. Here is my proof, http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1865228102/200425664.

Onto the tactic. Like i said, this is very flawed but very easy. And it works.

As Red/Purple team, place your traps in the red circles, creating a wall of traps between you and the incoming minion wave. Place a golden trinket in the blue circle, located in the brush just south of the wall. http://gyazo.com/356626350b4d33bf46573374571fc868

The same works if you are on the opposite time. Place the traps between that wall and the brush. The brush does NOT have to warded, but it is highly recommended.

Pros:

  1. The enemy adc will be completely zoned out most of the laning phase, and will have to pick up on farm late game. Do not let him/her do this. Keep the aggression, and maybe move the wall farther up.
  2. Junglers will have a harder time ganking because of their bot lane suffering behind the wall of traps, and may not even engage because of the difficulty of getting around the wall.
  3. If you are good at orb walking, ( like Kallista's jumping but not jumping, just, kiting. Google it.) then you can very easily orb walk the jungler while the enemy bot duo is coming through the trap wall. Even without orb walking potential, the Net backpedaling will give you more than enough area to get a good trade with the jungler.

Cons:

  1. Being as pushed as you are, you absolutely cannot rely on any type of ganking unless your mid and jungle have some good engagements. Even then, its going to be tough. Most likely any ganks will be under tower.
  2. If the enemy jungler camps, then this tactic will be completely thrown off. What you CAN do is place this wall of traps on YOUR side of the lane, for a defensive wall.
  3. Enemy supports that have pulls (Looking at you blitzcrank) will most likely catch you as you are playing so aggressive. When i say aggressive, i mean constantly harassing them with AAs and getting into danger zones.

Supports to go with Caitlyn:

Nami I find Nami to be my personal favourite with this tactic. As someone were to step on a trap, nami could throw her bubble on them. While they are lifted into the air, you can throw a trap under them to prolong the stun, almost insuring the kill. All of this together will be a stun of around, 5 seconds.

Leona Leona is a good pick because of how she can cruise through the enemy wave with her E. While the character is on the trap AND stunned by leona, just pop another trap under them. Another prolonged stun, disregarding Leona's ult.

Tips from the creator:

  1. If I see a trap go down out of my wall, I will naturally immediately replace that trap and get some AAs off on that champion.
  2. Later in the game, out of laning phase, this tactic is still so important- http://gyazo.com/dac3a91f02b22792f1d9f4e25c2f65cf Notice the turret placement. The turret placement cuts off a part of the lane, making your traps closer together. Yes, there is a hole between the turret and the wall. You can use this area to your advantage, nonetheless. Seeing the wall, the enemy champion will probably go through that small area. Your team can easily target cc in that spot, knowing this champion cannot dodge or weave out of it.
  3. Ask for your mid laner to play heimerdinger. Heim can place his turrets between the traps, basically making a wall of pain between you and the enemy team. Honestly, this is probably one of the most terrifying thing ive seen in league.

Alright guys! Have fun with this caitlyn ordeal. I will post my updates from 5 different games using this tactic and include the support i worked with. Good luck on the rift!

ive seen this done before. usualy lower tiers of bronze. i think itd be better if it was in a triangular formation rather then straight line. could be an offensive triangle or defensive.

I fiddled around with this tactic back in Season 3, and while it worked in some instances, it still had a host of problems. A few weren't outlined in the post, so I'll add them here. To preface, Caitlyn was the first champion for me to main. Between normal and Ranked I have over 500 games on Caitlyn, so I'm not just pulling this stuff out of my ass.

  • Using this tactics offensively assumes that you already have lane dominance, which isn't always the case. Going against an all-in comp, they can use your own traps to bait you into their engage arc and punish you for trying to poke (Leona is an all-star at this). There are also cases where you simply aren't winning lane for whatever reason, in which case this will yield zero results in terms of zoning.
  • It limits your escape/bush bait potential. Believe it or not, traps also serve as a big part of Caitlyn's escape mechanism through preparation and anticipation. Leaving traps in the outer rim (but still inside) of the bush and along the choke points of lane entraces gives you a clear route to walk away from threats. It also means that you have no traps to set up for an enemy that tries to retreat from a failed skirmish (running through bush to avoid vision and stepping on a trap giving your team time to catch up and finish them)
  • This doesn't work against competent tanks or Morgana. CC dot Magic damage? Morgana can walk right through every single one of them on a single spell shield. Wall gone. Mana wasted. Tank supports like Thresh and Leona will shield and eat the traps if it's posing a real hindrance for their ADC. Wall gone. Mana wasted. Even none tank supports will eat the traps if necessary unless the lane is active and frozen which isn't always the case. The ADC's themselves have an opportunity to clear the wall themselves with whatever health they have before recalling to buy if you're not in range for whatever reason be it you recalled yourself, the lane is shoved, etc.
  • You're dedicating a lot of mana, leaving a mediocre amount for your escape potential, distance poke-farming, and ult. Let's face it, not only is constantly replenishing the traps risky because it calls for you to overextend, but it eats through your mana pretty quickly assuming they're clearing them like they should be. That means you now have an even more limited mana pool with which you have to somehow muster up enough to E for safety, ult low targets out of auto range, you can't Q poke-farm, and all of your traps are down in front of you with none to fall back on.
  • As a defensive option, it has a chance to deter turret dives only if you actually make it past the line in one piece. Let's face it, if you eat a Thresh hook while in front of your trap line, you're going to take the majority of the beating before you even reach that line.
  • Doesn't stop flash engages or engages from a Sivir/Morg. Pretty self-explanatory. Everyone with flash can flash right over. Sivir and Morg can both open up a pathway with their spell shield. They fixed the bug where certain dashes went through traps recently, which did help in this general area of cons.
  • In terms of space usage, the middle trap is wasteful. Most ADCs won't stand in the heart of the minion wave, but rather veer to the right or left of the wave instead.
  • It takes time to setup, meaning time for them to foil your strategy.
  • It doesn't allow you to use the trap you currently have on the spot, because that breaks the wall.

What's had the best success for me in terms of trap placement, both during laning phase and after, it to use two traps offensively, leaving them in key choke points, and save/place one in a defensive location for escape when needed (both for you and your team) whether it be the bush, or another choke point that they have to route through in order to chase your around a corner. The wall setup isn't practical in laning phase outside of low elo where people are scared to eat traps in advance or would allow you time to actually set it up.

I think it's close enough to the topic to mention, but an interesting thing I've been playing with is using them to prevent early cheese drags from champions like Nunu or a jungler + Sion top lane. Basically, you use 3 to block off drag pit before laning phase. And leave them there until your team has gold/time to ward drag. Of course there are obvious downsides to this. For one, you can't start Q meaning you lose some early lane aggression. You lose all access to your W for 4 minutes or until your team gets ward gold, whichever comes first. It's a pretty niche tactic that's only possibly viable in certain contexts. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the idea.
