Just some things that people should know if they plan on actually rising above silver

First thing: I should listen to myself, or maybe not listen to myself at all. I don't know. I'm an idiot.

  1. MasterYi is not a worthy ban.
  2. Teemo is not a worthy ban either.
  3. Aatrox Don't underestimate him.
  4. Don't fight your enemy laner unless you KNOW you can win. If you lose, and blame jungler, then please go away. Your kind is not permitted in silver. Please go back to bronze. Or cardboard.
  5. Your jungler DOES NOT have to gank. He should if he can, but he isn't required to.
  6. More than 2 or 3 pings consecutively and you are just being a disturbance.
  7. Don't trash your own team, and don't say "gg ez" post-game.
  8. Don't try to solo baron. Ever.
  9. If you die split pushing, don't whine and bitch, you set yourself up.
  10. Darius is not the best champion in the game.
  11. If your jungler dies to a jungle monster, don't laugh at him at first. Unless he does it again. Then forget he exists.
  12. If you play ADC, by proxy, you should know how to play Support. It's literally the same thing, but instead you try to set up kills for your ADC and protect them.
  13. It's not just the Support and Junglers job to ward. EVERYONE should be warding.
  14. Objectives win games, not kills.
  15. Dragon and Baron respawn, turrets don't.
  16. If you win a teamfight, push the lane out, don't go to baron or dragon, unless you really need Baron.
  17. Don't even start a game unless you have at least 45-70 mins. Games don't always end at 30 mins.
  18. If you die in lane, don't get discouraged! You can still come back, just play safe.
  19. If the enemy laner has a lot of poke, just dodge it, and poke back.
  20. All in only if you know you'll win.
  21. Don't turret dive unless you KNOW you can get out, preferably without having to flash.
  22. Flash isn't the only good summoner spell in game.
  23. Junglers MUST bring summoner 11. Even Shaco and Nunu.
  24. Rengar is not the best champion in the game either.
  25. Riven is still VERY viable.
  26. If your top laner goes bursty (Rengar Riven Nidalee Ryze Zed), then go as a tanky jungler (Maokai Volibear Udyr Nautilus Nasus JarvanIV Aatrox)
  27. item 3075 is very good against Aatrox Ashe Caitlyn Draven Ezreal Fiora Gangplank Graves Irelia Jayce Jinx KogMaw Lucian MasterYi MissFortune Nasus Nidalee Quinn Rengar Riven Shaco Sivir Teemo Tristana Trundle Tryndamere Twitch Varus Vayne Zed. It pretty much counters them all. Especially Fiora.
  28. Jax is pretty much the strongest counter to Fiora.
  29. If the enemy jungler is a higher level than yours, their smite is stronger. Keep that in mind when taking objectives.
  30. Junglers, for the fastest clear time, at level 1, your smite does 390 true damage, so when the monster goes below 391, you can smite it for the kill.
  31. Junglers, for faster clear times, as you are killing the last 1 or 2 monsters in a camp, walk away and hit them as you walk to get closer to your next objective as you kill it.
  32. Junglers, don't be afraid to smite wolves, wraiths, wight, or golems. It increases your clear time. Jungle monsters (Except Dragon, Baron, and Buffs) are on a 55 second cooldown. Your smite is on a 40 second cooldown. It will be back up before they even respawn. DON'T smite them if you are planning on going to a buff or Dragon/Baron right after.

I think that's a pretty comprehensive list of important things to know that aren't common sense, or even are, but are just overlooked.

If you notice anything wrong with it, tell me, and I'll add/fix it!

Just so you know, I'm silver 5, but I have trouble carrying games. Actually I do pretty bad. I'm not a good player, I have bad reaction times and a bad pc. In other words, don't trust anything I say.

   16) If you win a teamfight, push the lane out, don't go to baron or dragon, unless you really need Baron.

Yeah... no.

Gotta turn that teamfight win into an objective Doesn't have to be dragon or baron, but for the love of god, get something. Don't just farm your lanes like nothing happened.

33# Stop playing champions like zed or lee sin if ur not good with them.

4 - Disagree. You should fight your enemy laner all the time. fight him so he doesn't get the cannon minion. fight him if he's out of position. Fight him if you've got a bunch of minions... A lot of times simply being more aggressive you can zone them off of a bunch of CS. The only time you SHOULDN'T fight your laner is if they've got 2 or more kills more than you (or an equilivant amount of CS) and they have a strong item lead over you. Or they've got a champ that hard counters you.

It'll be almost impossible to carry the game if you never fight in lane. That's how you get strong for the mid game. Best case scenario your team carries you to a win, but I'm sure you've realized by now that you can't always rely on your team to carry you.

for the same reason #20 is also wrong.

What you've got here is a guide for not throwing the game, but this is not a guide for winning the game.

Thornmail is not very effective against teemo (unless he goes AD) as the damage from item 3075 is based on the auto attack damage (teemo's poison is not counted)

I agree that you should always harass your lane opponent if you can. That doesn't mean go all in, just poke them, and make them hesitate to go for that cs, or hesitate to attack you.

Harass opens the opponent to all ins, and makes jungle ganks more likely to succeed.

I think a good way to practice harass without going all in is to play a champion with a weak early game. On those champions you can't all in and expect to win, while harassing and making a lane opponent hesitate to attack you really pays off.

Writing it out like that it seems kind of silly, but the rationale is that, if you can successfully harass and not feed with a very weak lane champion, then you should have no problem harassing and winning your lane with a stronger laning champion. You'll also have a clearer understanding of when you can and can't harass.

I'm sure I could come up with another 200 entries for this list if I had the time, and they'd probably be less specific than yours. Such is league. The first step is to acknowledge that there actually is that much to know. The second is to acknowledge that if you aren't at least Diamond 1, you probably know very little of it (I'm plat, I got there by learning the macro parts of the game really well and when I go for diamond next season it'll mostly be a matter of studying).

Just some basic things for silvers: -Learn how to not throw games, and recognize when your allies will too so you can spam the ! ping (I'm remembering Bronze, where every game was decided by which adc would decide to go facecheck every bush in the enemy jungle lategame). -Learn how to not be heavy when you get behind. There are ways to comeback from 0/3, and they do not involve begging for ganks or trying to fight/farm normally. Just try to cs under your tower, kill your opponent if they get bored and dive you, and splitpush when your opponent leaves lane. -Learn how global pressure works. There's zero point in splitpushing and dragging 3 people top to stop you if the rest of your team is jungling. If one person is going to be applying pressure, everyone has to be or there's nothing stopping their whole team from collapsing on you. Don't splitpush unless your team is setting up to push the other side lane as 4. -Stay away from baron. It's a throw magnet and even if you get it, your team will probably get cocky and end up aced. Still happens a lot in plat. -Taking dragon stops the enemy team from taking it later, taking a turret opens up the map but you'll have to go further to get the next one. It's a very contextual choice. -Know when to, and not to, kill your opponent's turret, and know what to do after you do. That's enough for now.

Supports aren't very similar to adc's at all... Setting up is a lot harder than right clicking and using ur point and click dmg abilities. It requires so much more than you think.

You are wrong on 28. It is a skill match up.

OhBoyItsaMegaman11/17/2014, 2:12:07 PM2 votes

Your Thornmail counter list is a bit silly. Teemo, Varus, Nidalee, Vayne? Irelia? Jayce?

Frozen Heart is a much less situational item for dealing with AA-heavy champions.

kirbyzama11/17/2014, 6:33:06 PM2 votes

Number 19 is wildly unhelpful. Saying "just dodge it" is like saying "just don't die". It's far more complicated then that. A xerath has more poke than most champs and if you move up to harass back you will lose that trade more often then not. Also how much do you give up to avoid poke? Let him zone off cs? Is a cannon worth a xer q? Also trading back in a melee vs ranged match can be suicide. That is one of the reasons why Ryze got nerfed. In a poke heavy lane I would say avoid damage even if it means losing cs if you know you can kill them later. Example ahri vs xerath. Poke back if you can safely. Try not to let damage be free but sometimes it can't be helped.

Aside from that tip. I like the list. Anyone who still advocates for riven is okay in my book.

  1. It's not just the Support and Junglers job to ward. EVERYONE should be warding.

And trinket alone doesn't cut it all the time. Upgrade it and if there's an Evelynn or a Shaco or Twitch or any other goes invisible and kills you in a second or jumps up on you unsuspecting...get pink wards!

if anybody disagrees with 14 you dont deserve to move out of bronze. ever. there are so many people who will only go for kills and wonder why they lose.

  1. Don't try to solo baron. Ever. What if your Tryndamere? Or Fiddlesticks?
FantasySniper11/18/2014, 6:09:59 AM1 votes
  1. At really bad levels, he is, since he's hard to shut down in a world where no one wants to build tank and are incapable of peeling. Not saying I ban him, but I don't complain the one time a week I see him banned.

  2. Not really true, the mechanics involved in Supporting and the knowledge are vastly different from playing ADC. They only share a lane, not play styles.

  3. Take any objective. In fact, if you know you're not going to take a tower in time, just go ahead and take an easy and uncontested dragon/baron to deny them the opportunity.

  4. Please only take her top-lane, or mid if you're actually good at her. Every Riven jungler I've seen has sucked @ss.

  5. item 3110 > item 3075 Also, half of those champs are barely countered by Thorns, they sort of have half their damage, if not a great majority, loaded into their ability rotation.

  6. Actually, I think that smiting asap (if its not a buff/objective, because it can easily be contested) is a good way to clear. You won't be wasting any true damage and you will have smite up faster for your next clear. Edit: Less true with the new season, just smite when you can use the buffs however you want.

Otherwise, that's a pretty good list.

#12 i find very untrue, support and adc are VERY different roles and by proxy doesnt fit how different you need to play the two of them. Also adc is mostly ranged damage and the play style is to stay on the edge of team fights, Support you could be ad, ap or tanky. you could be in the middle of the team fight or adding benefits from the side, either way adc players wont know support by proxy or vise versa.

As a support main, for the longest time adc was my absolute worst role.
