okay doodly essay. Tldr for that guy's giant essay: Roam when you see opportunities, but always through a safe path. Push if you're a wave clear champion, unless you can really freeze them out(which he didnt mention cuz bronze even tho its important). Don't play too aggressive unless your jungler is around or you have really long range spells... and Buy a pink ward every back passed 9 minutes for one side of your river..... and put a trinket in the other side so you can see them if they come to gank.
Itemization wise, he says basic shit that should be obvious... If you want burst get a rod, if you want mr get a chalice, if you vs swain get a morellos, if you vs zed prioritize a zhonyas...
Most mid laners have fast wave clear. Use your spells to insta-clear the wave, then look at top and bottom. If the enemy is pushed, gank (maybe with your jungler). If not but an ally is pushed, look to see if you should counter-gank. If not, go do wraiths or go ward the enemy jungle or base and buy.
In any case you have 30+seconds to go and return to Lane without missing any xp or cs (maybe 1 minion at most). So don't go sit in a Bush and wait for a gank (that's the junglers job), just look for something fast and go back if it doesn't work out.
If the enemy mid laner clears waves faster, you may want to try to follow them to counter gank. Go through your own jungle but to the same Lane. Always ping your missings. It may get boring to ping every wave and he always is at the turret, but it's a viable strategy to go to his turret a few times to make you stop pinging when you lose vision so he can gank more easily (you can try this too).
Use your trinket ward on one side of your Lane and farm closer to that side. The bush on the side is okay but not great as it doesn't give you vision early enough and many junglers will avoid it. The river Bush or a closer to their jungle to see when they approach gives you more time to react if you're paying attention. As soon as you can afford to (first or second back) grab a pink ward and drop it in a river Bush (I do Dragon side Bush as both mid and adc because you want to have vision near Dragon). At higher levels of play the river Bush may be checked so if that pink gets destroyed once or twice try the bush near purple turret (a little down from the turret, towards purple wolves). If it stayed for a while you may want the pink on Baron side (or if your adc put a pink on Dragon side). Your goal with the pink is to have vision on ganks from both sides of the lane, one from the pink and the other from your trinket. You can carry a stealth ward to ward the enemy jungle if you get the chance to roam in to it.
When roaming, either go where you have vision, or when you see the enemy team elsewhere. Often you establish vision with your jungler or support backing you up, then roam using that vision solo. You definitely don't want to give up free kills.
Watch the opposing laners playstyle. If it suddenly changes, expect an enemy gank. You can use this info to retreat, or to call for a counter if your jungle is nearby and you can win the 2v2.
Most mids are assassins. Make sure you stay high health to survive a burst (If you're half health with a potion, drink it! ). If they're AD, you may want to consider rushing seekers armguard (if you'll eventually want zhonya's). If you're ad and they're ap, maybe consider hexdrinker. You want to build damage (needlessly large rod in to dfg and deathcap) if you're ahead and some defence if behind typically. Needlessly large rods ate expensive at 1600g so if you still need 1 (ap mids get 3 per game, dfg deathcap and zhonya's) and have enough gold when you back it's often worth buying instead of finishing an item (e.g. If you have 1700g and a needlessly large rod, perhaps buy a second rod instead of the deathcap). You can always finish the items with smaller incremental purchases later, whereas you may not base with 1600g for a long time (especially if you're not a good last hitter).
Which brings me to the final point: learn to last hit. 15-20 last hits is a kill worth of gold. So practice a lot with your main champions and get good at it. Aim for 90+ cs by 10 minutes. Waves spawn every 30 seconds starting at 1:30 with 6 6 7 minions (19 minions per 3 waves in 1:30) and take about 30 sec to get to Lane. It's often worth more to get the last hit than to harass if you're not going to score the kill.
You can win almost any fight in Mid Lane by abusing Cooldowns. Almost every Midlaner your opponent should be playing relies on Cooldowns and almost every Midlaner you should be playing probably has a way to immediately threaten the opponent. What this means is that the moment the opponent uses one of their abilities on Minions, you've got a few seconds of free opportunity to attack them, and they literally can't fight back as hard as their ability is still on Cooldown.
For example, without any CDR, Ahri's Orb of Deception has a 7 second Cooldown. To rephrase, the moment Ahri uses her Orb of Deception to attack minions, that's 7 seconds that she can't use it on you. If you play a ranged AP Champion, don't be afraid to walk up to her and go through your rotation. If you are an AD Assassin of some kind and need to get up close to fight, this is the perfect time to start fighting since she can't use her Q to fight back for 7 seconds. Almost any champion that can immediately threaten their opponent through a gap closer or long range can win against Ahri in a fight simply by abusing this trick.
