How important are supports in low elo solo que?

If you don't have a support your team is certain to rage at someone, and you will lose. Your adc does not know how to position or kite, so if you don't have a support you might as well not have an adc. In my opinion, playing support might be the easiest way to make platinum. It's done a lot for me so far.

Depends on the support and what you consider low elo...for this argument I'll stick to bronze. If you're playing or are...a passive/sustain support who merely wards for your team and sticks in your ADC's pocket...not a lot. From what I've seen....90% of players in Bronze won't pay attention to the mini-map to take advantage of your wards.

If, however, you're playing an aggressive support like Morg, Annie, Blitz, Thresh and you're warding for your team while aggressively roaming the map and hooking/binding/stunning opponents to feed your lanes...then they're invaluable. You can't just be a passive support in lower elo as most players won't be able to take advantage of what you supply them. You need to be a more carry oriented support in what you do for your team.

Very important, for two reasons:

  1. Support seems to me to be the least contested role. If you are decent at suport, then on average your team already has an advantage, because the enemy team's support might be someone who just got pressured into the role.

  2. Supports with initiation, CC and tankyness are insane and make plays.

Case in point: I only started ranked two days ago, I tried to pick support Leona whenever possible. I got placed in Silver V eventhough 1 of my placements had a troll Bard jungle (lost that) and a 4v5 (lost that too, but just barely!!), then after two losses I went onto winstreak, straight into promos and from there straight into Silver III.
