My Riven Gameplay

Hello, I don't really post much but i thought I might share my thoughts on Riven. now I see a lot of people just doing a standard e-w-q-q-q combo and I'm not saying the combo is completely ineffective, but I don't feel like people are using riven to her full potential. I have a strategy for riven players that might be different, but is effective. Instead of engaging with e, engage with q. use the first q as more of a gap closer, and the second q as not only a gap closer, but to do damage to your opponent. now you want to blast these two off as fast as you can so your opponent doesn't have much time to react. then use an auto to make use of her passive, then w. so from there you should have gotten a decent amount of damage off without taking much, if any, damage at all due to fast attacks and cc. then use your e, then auto so if they use an ability or auto attack it wont hurt you because of your shield. at this point they will either be trying to back off or trying to fight back. in any case then you use your last q as a knockup either to prevent escape or stop an auto/ability use. so with that engage you have blocked attacks 3 times back-to-back due to your weaving of w-e-and final q. that is for just a lane engage. Now let's say you're being chased, but you think you might possibly be able to take them. then just do a similar combo. you use your first two q's away from your opponent, so it looks as if your trying to escape, then quickly turn around and land your last q on the enemy to knock them up and prevent attack. then w to further prevent attack, then e to prevent taking some damage. in either case if you have a ravenous hydra, you're going to want to tiamat after you w to get a good aoe combo with the w-tiamat. you will always want to weave auto attacks in between your abilities to utilize riven's passive to its full potential. Now, if your opponent is very far away and you need to super gap close, the do a q-q, then flash, e, then use your final q to stop them. if you don't have flash available then just q-q-e-q. if that doesn't work, then stop chasing! They're obviously way too far away. Now I'm not trying to claim I'm the best riven na or that this is a full proof plan, but this is what I've found to work the best. please give me feedback if you have any changes to make that would improve this or ask any questions if you don't quite understand what I'm talking about. GLHF!

you should save your E to avoid damage unless you can kill someone in a single combo (generally with your ult). so Q is your primary gapcloser, yeah.

Here's a good way to trade in lane with riven depending on the matchup:

Q x2 outside of enemy range, using second Q to gapclose. Then use your 3rd Q (with the knockup) to engage, auto during the knockup, W, and E to safety. The W prevents them from pursuing and the E negates any ranged return damage.

However if you're against a ranged champion sometimes you need to E first to initiate the trade, assuming they're paying attention and auto you while you're gapclosing. In this case you should only go in if your combo does enough to force them to run away entirely, because if you can't force them to back off then you'll take a TON of return damage while trying to escape.
