Placed higher than my ability level

Hey all I just started playing this game about 2 months ago and just got to level 30 and played my placement games. I was expecting somewhere mid Bronze and looking forward to the climb, and I got placed in silver 2. I was pretty ecstatic! However I just played my first two real ranked games against some gold players, and it becomes so clear that I don't belong here. I have to learn quick or get demoted, but I also get crapped on for playing ranked and let my team down.

How do I improve my play in ranked if all the games I play are against super tough competition?

I think that you deserve a response that doesn't involve "stop playing ranked" and/or "get demoted."

Play more normals. Play champions that you are going to play in ranked. This is good practice, since I play mostly three or four champions and I still come across odd lane match ups and interactions within the game. The reason why playing normals will work is because your normals MMR is closer to your true MMR, and it allows you to get better, more meaningful practice. Don't just limit yourself to playing League. Reading about it and spending time thinking about it are just as important as applying the mechanics. After you've given yourself some time to grow, hop back into ranked and see if you're still having troubles. If you are, then just hop back out. Your rank won't decay, since you're only silver. I'd recommend keeping your ranked MMR as high as possible, too, since it's likely that Riot will reuse the current MMR reset system. The reason why I say this is because by this time next year, you'll probably be closer to your placement level. Anyways, all the best!

Well Silver II is going to face off against Silver 1 to at least Gold 4, that's just how the system is built. So it's not really "much higher" then your skill. It's like people in Bronze I will see up to Silver III sometimes. They just don't really blanace the system to where people think it is... like if you're Bronze V you should only have Bronze V on your team and face Bronze V but in reality you'll see a range of up to bronze III.

Stop play ranked and practice by playing draft. Ranked is super tough though and the same as normals so good luck on climbing the ladder.

just keep learning and dont get psyched by it. If you say that you can beat and understand these players you will have a better chance. If you also dont care about your rank its better and you will go up. I had the same problem in cs go i just kept learning and giving it my best and i kept ranking up, i just didnt get discouraged and focused on learning .

I dont want to be that guy but, the only reason you placed so high for your skill is because mid-late season =they place your really high even if you do bad. Last season I got placed half way through and I was placed silver 3 for going 3-7 in placements and this season bronze 1 going 7-3. I also have friends who got placed this season half way through and got placed silver 3 and 4 respectively. If you are smart you will play normals and try to master your champ where you can consistently be fed every game. In normals alot of people play new champs so you should be stomping them if you know your main well. Once you can do that ranked is an option or you can just play ranked and try to learn and do well in an competitive environment, you will probably decay but, climbing your back up will also be beneficial in learning.

... i went 8-2 and placed in bronze 3 in season 3, filed a complaint and nothing happened ._. ...Season 4 and i went 4-6 (i was still bronze 2, didn't play ranked cus i was pissed) and i became Silver 5. By Season 5 i climbed to Silver 1 and after my placements (7-3) i went to Silver 5. I am not sure how the system works... AT ALL. Seems like it is completely random/bad. Im in silver 1 and too lazy to play ranked, knowing that i would just go back to Silver 5 by season 6

You got luckier then some people I know who killed their placements and got b3-4

Thanks for all your input! I went back and played 10 normals draft picks with MMR around 900-1000 against bronze/low silver players and won 75% of them to get my confidence back up. It is definitely night and day vs the 1300-1400 MMR against high silver/gold players. It definitely feels a lot more cutthroat in ranked especially when I clearly don't belong there. I'm going to climb the "MMR ladder" in normals for now and continue to improve, continue to master more champions, and perhaps jump back into ranked for the odd game if I really want a challenge.

It's a brutal process but just keep trying. If you die, think about what happened, how were they able to pin you down long enough to take you down? Were you too far up without wards?

Just keep your head up and learn, evolve and grow. Khazix

just let yourself get demoted down to where you belong, try to play safe in lane and help as much as you can but if you just go even in lane or close to it most people wont get mad

I had the same exact problem. Got into Silver 5 in my provisionals when I didn't even want to. Play two matches, didn't play Ranked for another few months. Learned a ton within that time, tried to bring myself to my limit, and started playing a ton of Ranked. I think I'm good for my Silver 5, though I don't think I'd go any higher.
