I don't understand how to "improve"

So I don't understand really how to improve. I'm silver I and I can get past silver II easily, but then once I hit silver I, I get destroyed hard.. I don't know what to do they say practice, but if i play more ranked and normals, these are people at MY OWN skill level. I'm not going to learn anything... I want to play vs more people in gold + because you see how they play and can learn something when they beat you in lane. I don't know if I'm just missing something? Or what but some advice would help.

For a heads up, I have played the silver vs plat lobby, and have learnt a couple things here and there. but it's not always accessible..

I would like some advice or any kind of tips because I do want to improve, I seem to only know what to do at my skill level.. And when I do what I need to do to survive in silver is going to be way different from gold. -.-

There is more to the game than lane phase (which is only the first 10 minutes of the game).

its not about "learning" new shit to do, its about learning what stuff you are doing wrong, and to stop doing them. Thats how you climb.

watch pro streams done in solo queue on youtube, especially for roles you are very adept in.

i learned a lot watching theoddone and nightblue3 that really improved my jungle game, and i am looking at a lot of bjerger's vids since i've been stuck in mid lane a bit more. not to be a tsm fanboy or anything, i just find their videos entertaining and informative at the same time.

there's really two big areas that get people to improve - improving on individual skill such as better micro, use of abilities, management of cds, anticipation of enemy abilities, and gauging battles with more tact than a blatant bronze power push forward. the other area is improving on your ability to take advantage of opportunities for objectives. the most frustrating thing i've seen, and i take great pains to get my team to get involved if they are slacking, is taking dragon when you get the opportunity, which is usually with a successful gank bot lane and enemy jungler is ganking top lane. and dragon is so important b/c if any lanes are struggling or slightly behind, dragon gives them a significant gold boost to even up the gold disparity they may have.

and a lot of #2 comes with aggressive ward management. b/c taking objectives in solo queue pretty much comes down to being able to gank and kill effectively, and to do that you really need proper vision to anticipate movement.

Each step puts you at a higher skill level. You have to look at it this way: Levels 5-2 are simply a numbers game, play enough and you'll eventually move up. However, every bronze 1 is fighting for a spot in silver, every silver 1 is fighting for a spot in gold, etc. If you want to know what Gold is like then you need to not only play against but eventually beat those silver 1 guys.

You need to set clear goals for yourself and try to reach them. If you hit your benchmarks consistently, you will improve.

For example, you set your goal to "get 90 CS at 10min mark", which is remarkable for a Silver player. If you can do this over the course of several games, you'll eventually reach the point where you don't have to worry about CS'ing anymore, for you'll do it automatically.

Other goals could be: "time your jungle route so there are no more than 5 seconds between a buff spwaning, and you starting to clear it" "aa your enemy laner every time he goes for a CS" "as ADC, count the enemy maor initiate cooldowns, and only join the fight when their down" "buy a ward and place it every time you go back to base" "look at your minimap after every last hit, and later, after every 5sec" "ping enemies once, every time you have vision of them, when they come from FoW"

Set yourself goals like these, which are measurable and can be objectively accounted as suceeded or failed. You will start to consistently hit your benchmarks, which is the essence of "improvement"

Depending on the role you are playing: **top/mid/adc **

  1. You can always ALWAYS improve on last hitting minions to CS better.
  2. Keep your lane pressured to reduce the chances your opponent has to roam.
  3. Ward as much as you can.
  4. Keep track of the opponents resources. (Summoner spells timing, warded locations, etc)

Team fights

Top : In the current meta, the responsibility of initiating/tanking/peeling often falls on the top laner. If you find yourself the top laner, your goal in a team fight would be to either protect your carries, or go for their carries. If you have to pick one of the 2 (APC, ADC), You have to determine who has the more value to either protect or kill.

Mid : As a mid laner, you would probably be very burst-damage heavy. Your goal would be to both kill their carry and stay alive. Take Ahri as an example, land a charm, follow up with dgf, a Q and a W. Chase with ult if they are not dead yet, and ult back out when you pick up the kill. The above scenario would be the ideal one if you manage to kill their carry and back out, taking out the enemy damaging source while staying alive.

ADC: As the attack-damage-carry on your team, your goal is to basically obliterate their whole team while staying alive. It's a rather hard goal given that every one on their team would be targeting you. Stay out of CCs, stay in the back line, stay behind your tanks, stay where your support/jungler/top/mid basically EVERYONE can peel/save you, and attack whoever is closest to you.

jungling:

  1. You can work on the timings of the camps/buffs and make your jungling more efficient
  2. Secure objectives(Dragon, baron, towers) by keeping good wards around map
  3. Counter jungling by timing or warding the enemy jungle and steal/contest the buffs
  4. Counter gank by predicting where and when he will gank next and gank his ganks :D

Support

  1. Constant warding
  2. Keep track of where and when the enemy has ward.
  3. Keep visions on dragon and baron
  4. Peel your carries
  5. Be prepared to sacrifice yourself for your carry to get fed.

By doing the above in the respective lanes, I think you should be able to out-perform all silvers and march into the doors of Gold by no time :)
