I'm only a lowly silver player but here are some generic tips. Work on csing/jungle clear because you got outfarmed, buy more wards for map control, build some damage, and ask if there are wards before a gank. I'm a support main and I generally tell my jungler which paths are warded. I would have to see a game to tell you more though. LIke my friend says when you play nautilus it means not a loss.
For many champs attack speed marks or quints benefit jungle clear a lot which Naut is weak at doing early. They help with damage the most early game in any situation where you can constantly auto attack like when jungling. I definitely suggest trying either attack speed marks or quints. Both seems like a bit much tbh, but I wouldn't rule that out.
Also for masteries when you grab 3/3 resistance for MR it's almost always worth it to pick up evasion for 4% reduced AoE magic damage. Most mage attacks in this game are AoE because most of them have waveclear.
Ok, how about something you can actually do in game. If you didn't know Naut's W will reset your auto attack. Make sure to start with a normal auto then press W as soon as it lands to land another auto instantly. Should help clear slightly and maybe add a pinch of damage in ganks.
If you feel even more experimental I would suggest trying 9-21-0 masteries too; I would go AD with exposed weakness. Either attack speed or cdr seems viable. However if 9 utility is good for anyone it would be Nautilus.
You might also want to try what I've been doing with jungling and that's splitting your auto attacks between two targets, killing a small mob first. Just because machete has a damage over time effect and so does Naut's W so if you're killing two monsters at once you get more out of the dot. And if for example you kill the little golem first when doing golems I believe you take less damage. I don't know why I don't really see other high level junglers doing stuff like that.
That was all really nitpicky micro stuff. It's tough to give more impactful jungle advice without seeing you play the game though.
I'll mostly just touch on a good build path for the Depth's diver. Until you KNOW how to make Naut work, it's best to go that standard CC monster tank. That being said, I recommend...
Trailblazer (Juggernaut): Naut's clear speed is pretty weak early on, and being able to stay at good hp will allow you to gank constantly. And Naut is not a champion who scales well with cs compared to anybody else on your team, you're mostly just buying defense after all. If you're fine with slower clear speeds, you can get chilling smite, whatever that is called. I know Juggernaut isn't cost efficient, but the tenacity it gives is still worth the investment instead of having to buy merc treads. Plus health and CDR both benefit Naut immensely.
Mobility Boots: Naut is slow. Naut is a guy in a full metal diving suit carrying an anchor. He's slow. But... What if he was fast? Once you're in the middle of a fight, you're staying in the middle. Pair of sandals will get you there in a jiffy. Could go with Swiftness for slow reduction too, or Ninja Tabi I guess.
For the most part, his shield is getting better in an upcoming patch, so you don't gotta build as much hp to get the scaling rolling, but nonetheless...
Randuins and Frozen Heart for armor, sub FH for Thornmail if you're against a Yi or Vayne or some such. MR? Banshee's is amazing. Also consider Abyssal Scepter if you're looking for more damage than MR. Except for your ult, you're always in range of the aura.
Lots of people build attack speed on the guy. And I'll admit, it's nice, especially Wit's End for some MR, or Nashor's Tooth for AP Naut (It's silly but it works). But for full tank Naut I don't think it's necessary. I always find myself auto'ing one guy then being done with him and snaring another dude.
In the end, I'd be happy with a build that looks a bit like... Mobility Boots (Alacrity/HG) > Juggernaut Trailblazer > Frozen Heart + Randuins > Banshee's > Wit's End/Abyssal Scepter Not necessarily in that order.
As for clearing and ganking, Start Gromp, with Armor and a bit of AP runes you can take Blue right after, head to red and smite kill. Depending on your HP, gank or go back. (Personally I gank right after blue!) Do your best not to "secure" kills, your gold goes best to your team mates. Assists will get you where you need to be! And in team fights it's super easy to get 3-5 assists with your splash damages. But keep in mind your W deals a dot, don't be afraid to lay that on an escaping enemy, if your team can't secure it your dot should.
Happy Dredge Lining
Naut's my second most played jungle this season after Diana, and probably my most played last season. Once you get comfortable with his playstyle you can build however-- tank, on hit, ability power, but the best mix is kind of inbetween.
Right now what you want is Trailblazer/Juggernaut with Ninja Tabi. For tanky junglers this has the most defensive combination of boots and jungle item. If you feel like the extra speed, mobi or swiftness is fine, but really you should be getting comfortable with the range of your hook. Learn how to use it to engage as well as escape. The terrain hook is bad, far worse than it was intentionally budgeted for in his kit, but it's still functional and may save you if things go south. Third item should almost always be Sunfire Cape. This is going to speed up your clear time immensely. It's going to give you a tiny bit of DPS in teamfights, which more importantly, will net you some assists. The health and armor is nice too. Next item (4) should be a semidefensive MR item based on your own playstyle and the enemy team's composition. Your big choices are Abyssal Scepter and Wit's End, and each has its merit. Nautilus has two on hits-- a physical on his passive, and a magic splash active on his W. Wit's End synergizes with this by providing even more magic on hit. The ramping MR/MR shred helps that magic splash get through as well. Abyssal is more for multiple AP comps. If both your team and the enemy teams has multiple AP based champs, an Abyssal is going to synergize well by lowering the enemy's MR, giving you some MR, and giving your abilities a little more oomph.
Items five and six are personal choice, but tanks have two important aspects to consider beyond their own defense-- CDR and auras. In this respect, the best combination in my opinion is Frozen Heart and Locket. This will bring you to 40% CDR while bringing auras for your own teams benefit and the enemy's detriment. Note that this build IS kind of health deficient. Play accordingly.
As Nautilus you are not expected to bring damage. You are not even that good of a tank. What you have is CC-- the most in the game. Play like it. Get in deep. Stun as many people as you can with your passive, hit as many people as you can with your E's slow. Knockup as many people as you can with your ult. Your move combination is important, especially if you use an item with the spellblade passive. Initiate with Q. Autoattack. Hit W as soon as the animation finishes for a second, fast autoattack. E as they try to escape. Ult the priority target, but do it in such a way that the travel path takes it through the whole team. Your W isn't going to last long, so get in as many hits as possible to maximize that magic splash damage and ramping effect of Wit's End.
If late game comes, don't be afraid to transition into a full tank. Randuin's in place of Sunfire. Banshee's in place of Wit's/Abyssal. A well placed Guardian Angel passive can literally change the game and gives nice resistances to boot.
My biggest piece of advice for playing Nautilus: Don't get discouraged. He can't carry. But he can win. He's not super flashy. But he sets his team up to make plays. He's not a top pick, and he has a hard time in this jungle (and the old too). But His CC is unmatched. Master him and you will crush entire teams by proxy.
