So.. I just made it out of Bronze. PSA to my fellow Bronze.

After months of playing Bronze elo, I have finally gotten out and into Silver V! I know, it's just a fancy version of Bronze, but it's still an accomplishment in itself. This post is for the people who felt like they were constantly better than their teammates, and they didn't deserve to be in Bronze. After playing for a long time thinking I was the golden boy of every squad, I began to realize I lacked in a lot of areas still.

The first thing I realize when making it out of Bronze was my attitude. Usually I wouldn't say much all game, and would just focus on pings and expect my teammates to know what was going on. But I watched a couple guides online on how to improve your own gameplay, and one person said that staying positive and shot calling was the easiest way to start getting better results. Before every game, I started saying in picks/bans how we had a good team comp, and talked them up to boost moral. When we got into the game, I would give them reminders like, "Listen, if we get behind, don't worry. We have late game champs on our team, and as long as we play smart, we can easily win this. So lets play our game boys." Then most times, people would give a positive response. A couple times I've had bot lanes fighting with each other, and you just gotta put a stop to it fast and just say "You're fine". Then do what you can to get them back ahead with a roam or gank. Staying positive and being the friendly person started getting me better results, more comebacks and of course LP.

Second thing I realized was my creep score was terrible. After watching another guide, the guy said "2 waves of creep is roughly the equivalent to 1 kill, so getting all the creep is vital." And that is absolutely true, if you're "losing" lane by a kill or two, but you're ahead in CS by 50+, you're technically ahead of them in gold. So when you die early, and you think coming back to lane and playing super aggressive is going to balance the lane back out, you're sadly mistaken. Play the slow game, sure you're not "FED" yet, but you gotta to that point. Some games you will absolutely steamroll and be 6-0 at 15 minutes, but other games you might be 0-0 or 0-1 at 15 minutes. Focus more on creep than kills. The sooner you realize that the game is more than just getting assloads of kills, and put more focus on the objectives and CS, you will drastically see your game improve.

Third, and I know everybody has heard this a million times, but wards. The more you can see, the better off you can gauge what to do next. This is something I still don't do perfectly myself, but I try harder to get as much coverage as I can.

Fourth, PROPER BUILDS. I was spectating a game my buddy was in, and he had a Shyvanna top lane. The entire team was AD, and this Shyvanna was building a Spirit Visage first. I sent my buddy a message saying, "Why the hell is that Shyvanna building a visage vs a PURE AD team??". The dude apparently told him that "He was following Riot's build path for Shyvanna." A lot of people buy the same items every game, and that's okay in some instances, but there are situational items that could change, and should change, per game. Some items are just really good, but you need to focus on maximizing your potential when facing specific champs. For instance, when you're playing vs auto attack champs like Vayne, you want to build a Thornmail. Now if I am playing vs a Graves, that Thornmail would not be nearly as effective as it was vs the Vayne. Vayne relies heavily on just pure auto attacks, while Graves executes are skill shots. There are many specific items out there that you could build vs a lot of champs, so study up on builds and see what works best for each team comp. Also, for top lanes and ADC's, it is a heavy tank meta, which means a lot of HP. If you're playing an AA champ, please build Blade of the Ruined King.. I had an ADC who actually listened the other day and built it early, and absolutely destroyed Leona, Mundo and Hecarim in a game. Proper builds can change the entire game.

Fifth, picking a champ that you can play, not just a counter. I see this far too often when in champion select, and it rarely works out the way they think it would. League is not Pokemon, where statistically, some types are weaker versus others and there's no way around that sometimes. If you counter a champion in League, it is not guaranteeing that you have a higher chance of winning. If I have Orianna mastered and do exceptionally well on her every game, you thinking your 5 games on LeBlanc versus my 50+ on Orianna is worth chancing because LeBlanc "counters" her, is stupid and misguided. It does not matter how hard a champion is countered if you cannot play that champ at the same level they do. I've played Quinn versus Caitlyns many times, even though Caitlyn is a "counter" to Quinn, I out CS and win lane anyway.. Why? I've played more Quinn than they've played Caitlyn, easy as that. Moral of the story, play champs you're comfortable and good on, do not play the counters game. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO CHAMPIONS WHO ARE CONSTANTLY BANNED, JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE OPEN, DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD TRY TO PLAY THEM!!

I know, I am not an expert, but these are things that I noticed on my way through Bronze and I know many people ask the same questions I did to myself. I always thought I was much better than everybody else in Bronze, but in reality I had a lot of technical game play to work on before I could finally manage to get myself out. So if you're looking to get out of Bronze, stop blaming everybody else and start focusing on what you can do to better yourself. I'll see you out there! Hope this helps.

just remember. When you think you're even average/good. Theres always someone better. Always.

and then you won't be a little cunt to your teamates and then you'll climb and then you'll critque your own mistakes and try to improve and not mess up again.

And then you'll be a good player and have a great attitude and all your teams will be like "wow this guy deserves honor look at him he carried my shitty ass and all he told me all game was "good job xxx" and never once insulted me!

You have to have experience, and nothing can substitute that. You have to be able to (correctly) anticipate your enemy's next move. This is actually harder in Bronze than any other ELO because people down there are so random in their behavior. It can be done though. Overall these are not bad tips.

Thanks for the tips. I'll use them. Haven't won any of my ranked games in 2 months..

Good guide and I agree with everything on it! Good job getting out of bronze and good luck climbing the ladder! :)

The amazing thing about this advice is that it applies equally well when going for Gold. If anything, getting to Gold from Silver is even easier than climbing out of Bronze, because at least in Silver there's a good chance your teammates/opponents will behave in a predictable manner.

Just play Sion/Cho for some nice freelo. You can play either of them in most roles, though cho should stay away from bot lane.

Attitude is debatable at times, but generally try to diffuse a situation if need be. You need to have somebody call the shots and step up and make decisions. Bronze players generally lack decision making skills of important objectives, so it really helps if somebody is there to lead them. Positive encouragement helps, but that won't take you to winning. Gotta call the shots if you can. don't be afraid to put somebody in their place if you need to. Also, try to make a buddy or build rapport with somebody in the match as that helps too.

Wards are so underused in bronze elo. so ward.

And yeah, play your best champs and don't worry about counters that much.

Tomatosx5/21/2015, 3:38:29 AM1 votes

Aoout the warding thing... Oh my god im silver 2 atm. I've noticed im the only player that upgrades trinket at level 9-11 on a back. Why???? The support can only ward three times!!!

protip for escaping bronze:

do not pick champs with low AOE, low CC and no escapes.

Stop thinking you're Best Teemo NA or Best Fiora NA. You aren't, otherwise you wouldn't be bronze. And yes, team comps do matter. A trash team comp with low AOE, low CC and low mobility is strictly inferior to one with high AOE, high CC and high mobility. Stop thinking your teams of Teemo MasterYi Fizz Vayne Soraka are good. If you are a lower pick, pick for your team instead of whatever you feel like playing.

Something for you to consider as you try to climb. Understand the meta, instead of coping the meta. A lot of players copy what they see, without understanding why X is happening. If you can get a fundmental understanding you can finds ways of countering it.

Be flexible and be willing to spend time adjusting your champion pool. Take the time to pick up a champ that has a play style or function that you do not have on your other champs. Some of your other picks may get rusty but sometimes builds or match ups are just not otimpal for all your champs. Be willing to say i liked this champ but item changes, meta (desired champs for comps) or X is making it not fit. You do not have to force a square peg in the round whole.

The only thing you have to do get out of bronze/silver is to abuse the fact none uses vision, take a good early jungler like pantheon or lee sin and just make bronzies cry about you camping them in the all chat seriously now , half of the supports in bronze build pure offensive items and act like they are carries, they never buy sight stone and don't really realize how important vision is in this game.

I'm in bronze now and whenever you try to remind people of this they tend to flame you.

disregardable5/20/2015, 1:38:10 PM1 votes

Meh. That's not what got you out of Bronze. I've seen plenty of people in Bronze 5 that knew how to CS, build somewhat intelligently, and warded well. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority do not, but I've seen a number that do. Positive attitudes generally mean nothing in my games (and if you tell me "You're fine" when I'm arguing with my support over attacking the CS, I'm just going to leave lane). Also, countering in champion select usually works. It's downright necessary when you're getting forced into your worst lane, otherwise you just need to dodge.

some of it is just unreadiness at the beginning.

I jumped into ranked end of S2 and absolutely tanked my mmr, like bad enough to a pointh that 8/10 on quals still would get me b5. It took me until last week to finally get my MMR above 650 and all of a sudden im playing with less feeders and trolls, and more people who can play somewhat intelligently.

my best advice is don't jump straight to ranked, took me 3 seasons to normalize after flopping.

BerserkGoldfish5/20/2015, 2:40:13 PM1 votes

no, I just tanked hard s2. sub 650 is a deathtrap. you can try to carry all you want, but it doesn't work. Im above it now perfectly fine, but it was harder to climb from 450-650 than it is to play a new account, not because of the skill of other players. Its just that toxic down there.

BerserkGoldfish5/20/2015, 2:47:20 PM1 votes

and yeah, I don't play like constantly, I usually get in 3-400 games a seasonish

That moment when your team is losing with early game champs and the team has fed late game champs.. 😐
