My first season of LoL and would like help from high elo players

Roxaile·10/21/2015, 1:13:59 AM·1 votes·1,202 views

So I first joined league near the end of Snowdown 2014. As the months have gone by, I've been playing constantly, trying to get better at the game, trying to face more challenges. However, I find myself stuck in some places.

In the past two months I've been watching videos by sooo many youtubers. I can't even keep track anymore. I tend to watch Phylol, Sky Williams, Scrap Computer, Scurb, etc. and many times even watch high elo streamers and pros so I can learn from the things they do. I want to learn more, so I have some questions for anyone who knows what they're doing. If you must know, I am currently an ADC main in bronze 1, stuck in bronze 1 since I hit level 30 which was 2 months after I started the game. I'm a very aggressive player who knows almost nothing about playing passive and I lack a lot of knowledge about the game.

If anyone can answer my questions seriously, I would appreciate it.

  1. How do you know when to get an objective, like epic jungle buffs or towers?

  2. Which objective is better to take after acing the enemy team?

  3. How long should one splitpush?

  4. Is it my problem if some enemy champs have a gap closer and is able to focus the ADC in the backline?

  5. What do I do when there’s a 4 man gank on bot and me and my support are cornered under turret?

  6. What's the best move to make after taking baron?

  7. What's the best way to improve on map awareness? I tend to tunnel all. The. Time. ADD op

  8. These questions are so serious its silly. Do high elo players get asked this stuff often?

  9. What is map presence and how do you show it?

  10. How does one properly zone the enemy out?

  11. Tips for ADC? Stutter stepping/kiting, what my job is, etc.

  12. I'm kinda running out of questions at the moment but please feel free to give me any tips/advice on anything. Mechanics, builds, random, anything.

Sorry for all the words, I'm just looking for all the help I can get cause I want to get better. League is the best way for me to escape from piano, art, strict Korean parents. Basically Hell? Lmao. Thanks for reading.

-Bronzie who can never win any of her millions of silver v series :')

**edit - I've taken a lot of your guys' advice and it was very helpful, so I must thank you. After reading these and practicing a little, I went on a beautiful ranked win streak and made it to silver 5, with 49 l.p. currently. Thanks so much and keep the advice coming, I'm always looking for more :^)

***edit - I'm still looking at this thread and I finished season 6 at gold 5, my peak being gold 3. It's March 2nd, 2017 now and Im back up to silver 2, and hopefully I surpass my rank from last season. Thanks for all the help everyone!

  1. How do you know when to get an objective, like epic jungle buffs or towers?

you get towers and objectives whenever you see them free enough to take. if you ace the other team for example, towers are free, and baron is free if your team is strong enough for it. if you have an advantage, you want to use that to take more and gain more so that advantage gets bigger and it's even easier to take more things.

  1. Which objective is better to take after acing the enemy team?

this can depend a bit on how the game is going and what your team is able to get, but generally you could try to go by this: nexus>nexus towers>5 drags>baron>inhib>tower>drag if you can take three towers without getting baron, go for that. the baron buff and 5 drags help you take more, but if you don't need it to take towers, then you can skip past that buff.

  1. How long should one splitpush?

a better question would be when should i split push. you can split push as long as you want, unless your team needs help at inhib towers. if you are deciding if you want to split push, you want to ask yourself why that is better in that situation. is it because you can do so and get towers easier than grouped? if you can group and ace the fight, that's the best thing you can do, but if you know your teamfights are really bad for some reason, then that's one case where you would want to split push.

  1. Is it my problem if some enemy champs have a gap closer and is able to focus the ADC in the backline?

depends, can you win the fight without your adc? if not, then it is your problem. if you can win the teamfight without them, then you can let them die, win the fight and get some objectives.

  1. What do I do when there’s a 4 man gank on bot and me and my support are cornered under turret?

well, you first want to avoid this as much as you are able to. if you need to, just let the tower go. if you are already cornered, you want to try for a kill one someone if possible. if you can't get a kill no matter what, don't blow your sums.

  1. What's the best move to make after taking baron?

there are a few good plays. one is to just control baron for 2 minutes and let the wards die out. another is to actually clear it. another is baron bait, kill other team and then take it. the most common is basically when you already have control over the game. you can also go for baron when your team thinks the game is over and want to give up. better to lose at baron then just /ff.

  1. What's the best way to improve on map awareness? I tend to tunnel all. The. Time. ADD op

after killing three minions, check map. just keep doing this. you don't need to really study it, just peak a bit to get a general idea. sometimes things will get crazy and it can get hard, and that's ok. the main point is just focus on improvement.

  1. These questions are so serious its silly. Do high elo players get asked this stuff often?

yes, and i wouldn't consider myself high elo, but i'm not too low either. the higher ranked streamers get asked about all of these questions and more.

  1. What is map presence and how do you show it?

if you are lets say playing tryn or another champ that's good at split pushing, and if you were to keep pushing a lane. you force people to either deal with you or lose towers and inhib. that's the choice you are giving them. another example would be if you are playing noct and you show up close to bot lane, they will back off since they believe a gank is ready, unless their map awareness is bad, and in which case, you can gank them.

  1. How does one properly zone the enemy out?

you need full control over the lane. you need control over the minions and you should be able to kill the other lane/laners if they try to fight you. you stand in front of their minions and when they walk up, you harass them. you want to stop them from getting xp if possible, but gold is also fine. avoid minion aggro when you are doing this and don't miss cs as it's free for you.

  1. Tips for ADC? Stutter stepping/kiting, what my job is, etc.

to kite, it's basically attack and move, attack and move. the way you attack and where you move is up to you, you just want to keep it up as much as you can. as the adc, your job is to deal as much damage as you can in a fight, while also positioning well enough to either not insta die, or to allow your team to punish the assassin. late game, your dps (damage per second) will likely be the most on your team.

  1. I'm kinda running out of questions at the moment but please feel free to give me any tips/advice on anything. Mechanics, builds, random, anything.

mechanics are practiced mostly, builds can change each game. look at the situation and figure out what's best. you can play aggressively, just do so smart. best of luck to you and i hope this helps.

1.How do you know when to get an objective, like epic jungle buffs or towers?

Well for towers its basically when you are see it is low and you can take it down yourself or you have them out number and poked out of lane for the tower. Dragon and barron are harder to just say its something you have to make a call when you know you are stronger to push them off of it or you jungler solo the dragon. Buffs i wouldn't try and take unleash you are the stronger jungler and you have vision.

2.Which objective is better to take after acing the enemy team?

If you are around barron after a fight and can do it i would almost always say get it and then do whatever objectives after however if you can easily push for a inhib that may be the better choice this is judgmental obviously.

3.How long should one splitpush?

You can all game as long as you ward and are strong enough to, also make sure you have the right champion for splitpushing.

4.Is it my problem if some enemy champs have a gap closer and is able to focus the ADC in the backline?

To some extent it could be depending on who you are playing and if you should be prepared for lets say they have a vi prepare to be ulted, but try and get your team to peel as best as possible. Maybe getting a qss some games could save your skin.

5.What do I do when there’s a 4 man gank on bot and me and my support are cornered under turret?

Sometimes their is nothing you can do but you can avoid these things with wards obviously.

6.What's the best move to make after taking baron?

Either bait it or just if you have the position on them or a man advantage just start it and peel off if they come and fight them or just finish it and then fight depends on situation.

7.What's the best way to improve on map awareness? I tend to tunnel all. The. Time. ADD op

You should be looking at your minimap at least once every 10 seconds try to practice doing this after a few games if you focus really hard on it you will just get used to looking at it all the time. Also playing jungle helps with this because you tend to look at the map all the time, well good junglers anyway.

8.These questions are so serious its silly. Do high elo players get asked this stuff often?

Depends who's asking maybe from friends but not as much as you would think people just like to do things their way and tend to never listen.

9.What is map presence and how do you show it?

Map presence IMO is being relevant in the game just because you didn't get kills on your roam or gank doesn't mean it wasn't successful and didn't do anything it might have burned a flash, pushed someone out of lane giving the laner exp, or just relieved pressure and made the laner play safer. You show it by ganking lanes that are over extended and knowing how to gank, and roaming when lanes are overextended.

10.How does one properly zone the enemy out?

That's hard to learn from typing it's something you have to see and understand the concept of to do it. You must understand the match up and first know if you can even zone them but if you are ahead enough you can just walk up to them and make them flee back denying them Cs.

11.Tips for ADC? Stutter stepping/kiting, what my job is, etc.

Kiting is just a mechanical thing you can't learn it except practicing it over and over until you learn it but using attack move might help you if you are having problems. Your job is to just attack whatever is in front of you and position yourself where you will be in the least amount of danger.

12.I'm kinda running out of questions at the moment but please feel free to give me any tips/advice on anything. Mechanics, builds, random, anything.

I think if you focus on farming and building up gold that way you will find yourself winning more games, don't just focus on trading when you have no idea how to i see this alot you are better off just csing and building up a gold lead. I'm not an ADC main at all TBH but focus on your mechanics in that low of an elo i believe that just by out playing your opponent that that elo you can just straight up win games and i know this from experience. Once you've built up the mechanics other things will just come to you slowly as you learn the game. Game knowledge is very very important but you are playing in an elo where people play AP Shyvanna you get the point you can easily carry games if you just get your skills to a point where you can just outplay opponents. Builds are important as well i would use probuilds.net if you aren't sure what to build on a champion but also make sure you build according to the game like if they have a lot of armor don't rush a BT 3rd item get a LW, if they have a WW you might want a QSS etc. In the end just play more normals and focus on mechanics and just getting better individually take notes after every game of what you did wrong and fix it the next game. Sorry for ramble well good day hope i help even if the tiniest bit.

After checking gout your match history, your Cs per min is really poor. You should try to improve on that, you average 5cs per min and should be 7-9 cs min. So you are missing out on a lot of gold, which is fine if you are picking up kills like crazy, but you are not.

In bronze there is so much gold in tower objectives that it can swing a game because of how poorly people kill creeps. You seem to play a lot of jinx, get your tower down, then rotate mid and help take out that tower which is easy to do in bronze as people are usually slow to react to rotations and poor warding. That global gold for your team will likely put you significantly ahead at that tier. Then group and push towers, force them to react you your map pressure. That alone I think can help win more games at that elo.

** How do you know when to get an objective, like epic jungle buffs or towers?**

Are you dominating your lane? If so, it can be better to leave the turret up to deny them farm while you continue to bully them. Is the enemy jungler top lane? Did you just double kill enemy bot lane? Is your top laner near dragon? Then you can probably take dragon and/or the teamfight (always with your jungler! Unless you know the enemy can't/won't steal it with a skillshot). For buffs, you want to take them before a teamfight breaks out. If you are just going to go farm, it's not as valuable.

** Which objective is better to take after acing the enemy team?**

Towers/inhibs > everything. If the enemy is aced and on death timers, there is no reason to go to dragon/baron unless you are positioned too far away from towers. Always get the enemy tower/inhib, THEN go baron/dragon if you have time and health to do so.

**How long should one splitpush?**

This will be a different answer for every situation. If your team can hold mid or wherever, then just keep splitpushing until the enemy is forced to deal with you. If your team CAN'T hold mid or a fight is brewing and you would make a difference, push the wave and get over there. If you don't have wards, don't continue to split push if you can't see the enemy.

** Is it my problem if some enemy champs have a gap closer and is able to focus the ADC in the backline?** Yes. If you are the ADC, you should always be mindful of which enemy has their gapcloser up and assume they are going to dive you. The life of an ADC relies on excellent positioning and hopefully decent peel from your teammates. If you aren't ADC, you should be protecting your squishy teammates from gapclosing enemies.

**What do I do when there’s a 4 man gank on bot and me and my support are cornered under turret?**

First of all, ward so it doesn't happen again. Ping your mid/top laner (whichever corresponding enemy is ganking you) to push their turret. Try to survive the gank, but if not, make sure your team isn't wasting time trying to come down to "help" you when you're already dead. Unless they actually can get kills, but more often than not, it's unlikely. Plus they usually do dragon afterwards, so make sure your laners push hard and don't try to fight dragon 2v5 or 3v5.

**What's the best move to make after taking baron?**

Assuming your team took baron, push, push, push. Generally you either group 5 mid, or split to at least two lanes to keep pressure high. Do not get dragon. Do not farm jungle. Use empowered minions to your advantage.

**What's the best way to improve on map awareness? I tend to tunnel all. The. Time. ADD op**

Force yourself to look at the map and move the screen when you aren't too busy. Inbetween CS, when your enemy is gone, when you are walking back to lane, etc.

**These questions are so serious its silly. Do high elo players get asked this stuff often?**

More or less, yeah.

**What is map presence and how do you show it?**

This is more about the jungler showing himself in a lane even if he's not actively ganking it (though he may also be ganking). It eases pressure on your laner because the enemy is a bit more scared and has to play safer.

**How does one properly zone the enemy out?**

If you are truly zoning the enemy out, it means you are standing in front of the creep wave. You are between the creeps and the enemy, preventing them from farming at all without hitting them for it. You can only do this if you are ahead/stronger or the enemy is very passive. It's also riskier for getting ganked.

**Tips for ADC? Stutter stepping/kiting, what my job is, etc.**

You are DPS, so hit everything, including tanks. In fact, you are the main tank-killer. If you are going to die, don't just run away, always fight while kiting to get the most damage out as possible. In lane, if your support is taking damage or getting engaged on, don't run! Always hit the enemy ADC to attempt to save your support (at best) and return damage so you don't just lose trades/lane. For teamfights, mind your position and enemy position. Your job isn't to kill the enemy ADC or APC, your job is to provide consistent damage and stay alive.

I'm by no means "high elo" adc, but I have played a lot of adc (mostly graves) and a lot of support (thresh and nautilus) with great success. recently I went on about a 20 game loss streak but now I'm on a win streak and I'm carrying virtually every game (probably because my mmr dropped). Honestly I learned so much from pro streamers. I always look to see when one of the adc mains is playing graves because I love graves otherwise I usually watch the junglers because then I learn so much about the whole game around them rather than the little bubble, that is bot lane.

Builds (and how to counter them), power spikes (and how to counter them), and the FOTM champs (and how to counter them) are in my opinion the most important things. If you can win your lane through favorable choices then 1) your team can make your own choice of objectives to take to push the nexus, or 2) you can react to the enemy team, kill them since you're ahead, and then take the objective that they were aiming for.

Gold leads are the most important thing in my opinion. for example, I was playing a normal game and I decided I would just farm the whole game. I was like 2/1/3 at about the 30 minute mark with upwards of 320 cs, I then decided the game was getting boring and went mid. as graves, I proceeded to kill the enemy ekko in 2 auto attacks since I had 4 items and boots where he has lich bane and boots. We then proceeded to win the game since one auto chunked anyone on their team and they had no response. By no means is this a really viable win condition but it's always an option. similar to tryndamere and yasuo.

Pick an early game champion such as Elise or pantheon and snowball so that you continue to stay ahead even though you are supposed to fall off. or pick a late game champ and don't let their early game champs do the same to you. Pantheon is an easy win if you can get 1 or 2 kills under your belt and use your ult effectively, vayne and Draven are solid picks into the typical early game adc's/jinx and I will always stand by graves even though people lump him with corki and Lucian as a mid game adc. he has huge burst at lvl 2,6, and then after IE youmoos finish where as vayne needs only blade of the ruined king to compete. If a graves hits his full combo I truly believe he can 1v1 almost any adc if they have equal gold and items and levels.

Hope this helped to some degree even though most tend to cross gold off as low elo. I will support you in some normal games if you want and I can call stuff in the moment that is harder to explain in a setting like this.
