Syndra, Is she ok against assassins in mid?
When ever i pick Syndra the other mid laner picks an assassin (ex: Zed, Fizz, akali. and yasuo.) Are they counter picking or what and what do i do to counter them in lane?
Thanks~~ Imperial Fire9

Syndra should be pretty strong vs. the champs you mentioned.
A few patches ago Syndra was by far the strongest mage in the early levels. Nerfs took the edge off that a bit but Syndra should still be pretty strong.
All those champs mentioned need a few levels to do anything to you. Unless they buy a lot of potions you can poke em with Q. Fizz is the one most likely to do that.
She is strong....if you can use your E to stun AND get the assassin off of you. Then her combo should ez finish them off.
I believe it is the enemy's mentality, that when they believe they are laning against an imobile mage (Syndra has slow base MS, not the slowest, but she is slow. No dash or gap closer, ect) they feel they have the advantage by playing a mobile champ. Mobility wins right? While it's not an outright counter, it's not the same as, say, Counter picking an Ahri into Lux. (Lol?) I'd suggest you play these match ups against your enemies expectations. Where as champs with short range and or no gap closers have to position themselves to get their damage off (Annie, Lux, Brand, Ori somewhat, to a lesser extend Syndra) champs like Lb, Zed, Talon, Lissandra, Akali, and Kat has moves that let them dash, blink, or close the gap, moves to inflict dmg once they are in poisition, and in some champ's cases they have an additional option in their kit to give them a second dash/escape. Two of Brand's skills are skill shot based requiring you to get in range and be in positioning, his e has silly absurd short range, and his ult is well it's Brand's ult. Lux herself is fairly immobile, having to focus on her ability to use her zoning and area of control to prevent the enemy from getting into position to get into position. Annie has short range on all of her spells. And I'm not gonna mention FLASH TIBBERS. Because in that logic any champion can add FLASH into their combo for a gap closer. Flash Tibbers only works when Flash is up, so I'm excluding flash tibs as an exception.
Regardless, these champs require you to get in position, and they aren't easy to escape when you get caught out of position. Mobile champs are better at avoiding skill shots, staying out of the position for you to hit them, and being able to manipulate their positioning in a shorter amount of time then it takes less mobile champs to navigate the same distance. But this can be your advantage. Let your enemy use their own mobility and do some of your work FOR YOU. Don't waste effort trying to get into position to land a good combo. Let the enemy get into position for you, and nail them. This works with most immobile mages that has a form of hard CC. Let me explain with Cho Gath!
Most will tell you its hard to hit his q. It takes practice and mind games. If I'm top lane and I see Xin, Riven, J4, or Vi coming at me for example, all champs with a gap closer. If I go to q where they are at that's silly unless they drop to channel a move like if they are fiddle ulting, they'll keep walking to us and we q behind them. That's basics everyone knows that. So we try to lead them right? Q in front of them right? Well then they gap close to us and avoid the q anyway. This is why alot of people are sad with Cho. No, I'm gonna q, on top of myself. Or in front of me, depending on how my enemies dash mechanics work. So Xin can dash to me but it's a game of which of us gets knocked up first. And between a 3 talon strike from xin and a q from Cho the trade is in Cho's favor. Cho still has vorpal spikes on every auto, the silence to interupt his combo and ult escape, and the ult for bursting him down or executing him. Wait for J4 to knock you up, knock him back up. Q directly in front of yourself pre 6 vs Vi, 6 on top of your for when she has her ult. Same for Riven.
So rather then trying to drop q's and line up a pool shot to stun them. Let Zed or Kat blink in your face, and suddenly you don't have to worry about getting closer, because they are right there. In your range. For you. Thank you. Lay your Spheres in such a way that they are immediately ready to be e'd into a stun the second your enemy tries to exploit their mobility. Make sure you layer your w and your stun properly to get the best effect. I have so much fun with Annie vs mobile assassins mid. Stunning Zed out of his ult, or just in general whenever he tries to comit to me. Avoid his q poke and you can out trade and sustain.
Tl'dr it's not a true counter. It's about head games. You will still continue to win and lose games against mobile assassins as an immobile mid Mage. Just as you getter you will win more then you lose =)
