New Player Tips on Dealing with Toxic Players?

I'm new to League, both the game itself and it's type, and as such I'm not very good. I'm level 21, and I play support Soraka as my main champion and role, but I recently bought Hecarim and really want to try playing top lane or even Jungle. I've played so many bot games and I really just want to play PvP, but the problem is, if you're not good (which I'm not) then you get some serious toxicity and reporting. I've had (quite a few) instances where some of my fellow teammates were not so understanding of my being newer at the game, and completely shredded me. It's to the point where I am really scared to even attempt a PvP game because people are so rude. I understand bot games are there to help you practice, but I just want to play the game and have fun while doing it. I don't care if I win or lose, I just want to enjoy myself, which sadly seems to be a very unpopular opinion, and people flame like crazy if you start to lose.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Or even better, is there anyone willing to just play the game with me and have fun, whether you win or lose?

EDIT: I know i could just mute everyone, but that takes away from the PvP aspect, the communication and teamwork, and I might as well just play bots.

Just mute everyone before the game starts. In most games at that elo, nothing of value will be typed in the chat anyway.

Most League players aren't jerks, the jerks just stand out more than everyone else. It's an evolutionary psychology thing; negative experiences stick in our memory more strongly than positive ones.

What I recommend is that you just immediately mute anyone who says anything you feel is out of line. If someone is throwing out insults or trying to blame you, engaging with them will just make it worse.

People can report you for whatever they want; if you're not being a jerk, nothing will happen. Players who file reports against everyone who they think played badly have their report weight reduced to the point where their reports get completely ignored.

There is really no right thing to say to players like that. To help yourself, however, you must realize that it's not your fault they are toxic. These players often explicitly look for someone to blame when they are losing.

What I usually say to toxic players is, "worry about what you can change and play the game." The worst thing you can do is divert your attention to a silly argument with a troll.

play with friends or a couple friends or something. Jg is a tough role as they get a ton of hate for no reason sometimes just like ADC

Just mute your teammates. It's not worth reading the dumb ass comments. Best advice to give.

Someone is a jerk to you, mute them. It's pretty easy. I don't know why people aren't more liberal with mute.

My advice is to find a few friends to play with and then you don't need to worry about it.

I hate going into PvP games without at least one other person because of the way the community is. That way you can still communicate with your team and not worry about everyone ganging up on you. You also gotta focus on avoiding the "I'm gonna get reported" mentality. If you've done nothing wrong, don't worry about it.

Also, there is nothing wrong with muting people here and there. I have All Chat disabled on my settings because people tend to run their mouth on either side of the game.

Take this from someone who wasted a LOT of time. I played bot games from level's 1-30 and have a whopping 27 wins (meaning as much as 60 games total across Normal PvP). You are level 21 and have 31 wins; imagine how many wins you would have by level 30 if you only played PvP from this moment onward.

My point is to just ease your way into PvP and have fun. From what little experience I gathered back when I PvPed in the early level's (10-15)... it's so much more lax than when you hit level 30 and get pitted versus people with years of experience (800 games, like c'mon). I even had the occasional duo top lane back then even though smite was unlocked at a much lower level. Basically, just mute the flamers, ignore the intentional feeders, mentally prepare yourself to deal with the AFKers, and understand that you will lose lane a lot at first but you'll get better over time. And if you don't get better over time... well you'll be put against people at your skill level and eventually be able to maintain a 50/50 win ratio - which if raised would mean you're becoming better as a player over time.

When I went past the point of no return (level 25+) I started getting stomped whenever I tried transitioning from Coop vs AI to PvP (especially due to no runes since I spent all my earned IP on champs) - don't let the same happen to you. Some people told me to just PvP it up until I molded myself into the matchmaking system but it never seemed to work out, so I took to my own method and started over from scratch. I have a level 15 now and I'm having tons of more fun, win or lose, doing good or bad, then I would have if I had continued grieving myself over a high level account that only invested time into bot matches.

I haven't played in about a month and a half due to classes and playing other games, but I'll add you on my level 15 and we can play together win or lose, good or bad scores. ^^ My schedule only fits some mornings and all night on weekends though. I'm not the best, obviously, but I can try and help you if you want the help.

EDIT: Muting the flamers is unfortunately the best it's going to get. Luckily, you yourself aren't a flamer so that leaves 4 people on your team and chances are either one is a flamer or none are. Mute the flamer(s), get along with your team, then try to win the game. If you get a team of 4 flamers, then tough luck - it happens. :/ But I'm sure you'll get more games of non-flamers than flamers in the long run and that's all we could really ask for. I personally never mute anyone but to each their own... some people just can't handle it as well as others.
