Any advice for a Bronze 1 looking to advance?

So, last season I went from Bronze 3 to Bronze 1 with the help of a duo partner. We made it up to promotion several times, and failed. While we're both decent players (for our level at least), we'd hit promos on a hot streak and end up doing our matches against people who could consistently outplay us and so we'd lose every time. I want to hear what I should be doing as a player to advance my skills to the next level, so I can rank up in S5. If there's anything you need me to post for info, I'll do my best.

If you're still around, I am on stream right now and I am available for the next couple hours to spectate and give advice. If interested, here's the link!

I was in exactly your shoes in season 3. Finally made the push to silver at the end of season 4. Biggest piece of advice I got from a friend in Platinum that I took to heart is this...

Play fewer champs in ranked!

A quick look at your season 4 stats shows exactly what my season 3 stats looked like. Way too many champions played. I cut my total down by about half in season 4 amd saw immediate results. I stuck to the ones I had the most experience and success with. I ignored matchups and counter picks for just playing who I knew the best and I won more. So much more I went from B3 -> B1 very quickly. Took awhile to grind out a series promo from there but I made it. Currently a promo away from S4 advancement.

Good luck, hope that helps you as it did for me.

Main a high engage, good cc champ like Leona, Braum, or Thresh.

I played a lot of support, but supports don't really have that big of an impact until late game, so if things go to hell in the other lanes and your jungler is getting counterjungled/isn't ganking, then you are just plain screwed, so I'd pick a role that can carry so you don't have to rely as heavily on everyone else. I'd pick a high damage and/or high sustain jungler like Pantheon, Vi, Master Yi, or Fiddlesticks since they are easy to use, and can easily make amazing plays. (I personally carried myself from about to be demoted from B2 all the way to 82 lp in B1 with Diana, but then I went on tilt for about a week and crash landed back in Bronze 2)

First off blame yourself. I was stuck in silver 5 for so long last in season 3 and after i blamed myself for my mistakes instead of my teammates i got 2 pentas and got out of silver 5 for the first time all season. Secondly wards. Wards are so useful, especially pinks. They cost only 75 gold and they can save your life, thats like 4 cs. If your map is dark, light that shit up with some wards. Next thing is objectives. In season 3 i single handedly got out of silver and into gold by playing nasus and soloing dragons. In all honesty kills dont mean alot. Instead of chasing that last kill go take a tower, its more gold anyway. This is mainly a jungle thing, but it also applies to mid lane: when trying to gank especially via river, watch how the enemy reacts when you walk in the bush, if they back off then its warded, i used to see so many junglers waste time in a warded bush. Another important thing: CS is so underated. A CS lead is usually better than a kill lead especially in bot lane (not as much in top lane compared to a kill advantage but that has more to do with xp advantage than gold advantage). Melee minions are 20 gold, caster minons are worth 15 gold, and siege minions are worth 40 gold (at the beginning of the game, we will use these numbers for calculations and not factor into account the increase in the value of minions to make math simpler). Since there is 1 cannon every 3 waves, we will use that to find the average gold per CS. In 3 minion waves there are 9 melee minions (20 gold * 9 minions = 180 gold) 9 caster minions (15 gold * 9 minions = 135 gold) and 1 cannon minion (1 * 40 = 40). Add them all together and divide by 19 and you get ~ 18.6 gold per minion (we will round it up to 19 since minions increase in value as the game progresses). So using these values, a standard 300 gold kill is worth ~ 16 minions. Minion advantage is very important especially for adc so you can buy your big ticket items like IE (which is hela expensive). Another underated thing that is extremely important mid lane (mostly for lvl 6) and top lane (this can win/lose you lane) is xp advantage. If you hit level 2 in top lane you can go in for a trade and you will almost always win. Ill use an example of what i usually do when i go irelia top. I usually start pushing the wave so i can hit level 2 before my lane opponent and once i hit level 2 i have my stun (which i grabbed at level 1 unless it was a ranged lane opponent) and my dash. I immediately walk up and stun my lane opponent and start autoing him (usually twice) then q him and back off. This also ties in with trading which i will get to later. This will usually cause them to pop a potion. Not every champion has a good level 2 tho, for example zed would most likely grab w level 2 mid just in case he gets ganked so he wouldnt all in but probably use it to poke his lane opponent. Trading is another thing that when i smurf i see lower elo players mess up. When you are take damage from the enemy lane opponent 9 times out of 10 you should at least return some form of damage to them. There are cases when you shouldnt do this especially vs kill lanes but its really bad to let them get free damage on you. Also minions hurt early game. Dont trade in your opponents minions because you will lose alot of hp. If your lane opponent starts hitting you in your minions, stun them if you can because they will take more minion damage and then auto them and use abilities to do damage. The last two things i have to say that are important are resource management and map awareness. Map awareness is self explanatory just look at the minimap occasionally (the more often the better). If you are bad at this then do it every time you do X thing (ex: look at the minimap every time you last hit a minion). When i say resource management i dont mean just mana, i also mean cooldowns: item cooldowns ability cooldowns ect. Know how much mana your combo costs so you dont go in and realize you dont have enough mana to ult and you just die.

Sorry for the wall of text but i kinda just thought of things on the fly. I hope these help. Good luck on road 2 diamond/challenger (or whatever your goal rank is).

if you and your friend still play together, then pick champs that compliment each other. janna and jinx, leona kalista.

as was said earlier, play fewer champs and have a preferred role.

If you're ahead in your lane, roam!. put pressure on other lanes, they'll get harassed and lose out.

wards, pings and MIAs, use them!.

map awareness is important, clear build up of minion waves, know where the other team is, know when objectives are up.

Stay as a team, don't go charging into them one or two at a time.

Hmm, the best ways that might be helpful to you would be to make some friends with mid to upper silver people, and maybe duo with them or duel with them. A lot of times, its better than watching someone so far out of your skill set that you just get frustrated.

If you'd like, I'm S3, and would be glad to duel with you if you wanted to add me.

Or, if you would prefer a second option; I have a pair of Diamond friends that I mod a Twitch stream for that do Free coaching on Saturday nights : http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/tips-tricks/W7KqoJiI-free-coaching-from-diamonds?show=nested

Please, feel free to do either. =)
