Pretty much the title. Its been bugging me that i can only play gnar at a confident level when it come to fighters. i played a game as Riven and literally when i went to lane i felt like i had really no idea what to do. No matter what i did it just felt like i was wrong. Not trading when i should, farming at bad times, those kinds of things. I cant seem to get it right. I have this problem with Jax, Tryndamere, and Olaf as well, which sucks because i like to play those 3 from time to time . im not sure if its because i mainly play champions that i can just use my range to get farming and harass off with or what it is but i really want to be able to learn fighters to better expand my champion pool

When I first started playing I only played ADCs but my friend was a huge advocate of learning all the roles before hitting level 30. I just made my transition from bot to top very gradual, moving from ADCs to mages, from mages to assassins (Talon was my main for a looong time before being replaced by Fiora) and then to fighters > bruisers > tanks. Finding champions that are in between what you're comfortable playing and what you want to learn is the safest way to transition in my opinion.

As far as learning how to handle being Top (since that was a huge issue for me), I did it by making custom games and going from playing against 1 beginner bot ro 1 intermediate to 2 beginner to 2 intermediate. Of course keeping the bots as champs youd normally lane vs in that lane. I found that by the time I can 1v2 intermediate bots, im comfortable enough to go into pvp.

Riven isn't really the best champion to learn fighters using, since she can actually be pretty hard to do well with unless you know how to play her.

If you are trying to learn fighters, I'd suggest either choosing a relatively straightforward champion or using a mage who can be played top lane to transition over.

Some mages for top lane: Ryze Swain Lissandra Cassiopeia Lulu Vladimir

Some fighters to learn: Trundle Irelia Gnar JarvanIV Gragas Chogath

I'd recommend watching some Youtube videos of top laners to see what they do. I'd recommend WingsOfDeath or Voyboy, personally.

If you want to learn Riven, start out by playing Garen. He has a similar lane phase to Riven with far less risk involved.

Singed Try this guy in top lane and let people chase you.

The biggest thing in any lane is just waiting to capitalize on your opponents mistakes and make your engage then (I'm assuming we are just talking about laneing phase right now, not team fights though the idea still applies). When you're playing a fighter like jax/riven, its really important to keep in mind you shouldnt engage the enemy laner if they have a creep advantage. Winions OP. Also just knowing at what levels and with what items you have your power spikes with each champ. It can be a little intimidating to cs as a melee champ against another melee champ. Just play with confidence and watch their pathing. Its obvious when he wants to come over and smack you. Smack him back or get out of the way, let him shove the wave and have your jungler gank.
