Which Mid-Lane Champion should I choose to main?

Hello everybody,

So I have a good amount of IP, and I've been maining Fiddlesticks jungle lately. I want to try midlane however. Out of these, which would you reccommend? -Azir -Lissandra -Fizz -Riven

If you have any other feedback or suggestions on other champions I am happy to hear them out! Thank you!

Riven and Lissandra are played top lane most often in the current meta, and Fizz got nerfed to oblivion Right now Kassadin Azir and Ahri are hella strong

Azir works, but there are some people saying he's going to get nerfed hard soon.

Lissandra seems to have been shifted top lane although she can be a good situational pick for mid

Fizz was hurt by the recent nerfs. You can play him if you are knowledgable about him and can hit his skill shots, but he's not considered "meta"

Riven is used almost exclusively as a counter pick if you take her for midlane. She's much better as a top lane fighter.

For some of the ones you didn't name:

Orianna is seen a bit, but is a bit tricky to learn to use Akali is popular, but often banned Katarina is very popular, but is another often banned champion. Ahri is very meta at the moment, but most people are expecting to see a major hit with the nerf bat in the near future Zed - the posts here show his popularity, not sure what more to say Morgana - situational, but she can also play support Annie - situational, can also play support Diana - she's been jungling more, but officially she's considered a mid-laner. I wouldn't try her here if you have little experience in midlane. If you can't her her Q you will get bullied. Cassiopeia - very tricky as you have to hit her skillshots, but a good late-game champ if you can.

I'm sure there are far more than the ones I listed, but those are the ones I'm even somewhat familiar with.

Master Yi.

On a more serious note, AD Assassins in general are a pretty good bet to rely on if you actually want to carry. They tend to have very good kits to fight their individual match ups, the team fighters Yasuo can team fight well and the assassins Talon have high kill potential even in 5v5s, and most importantly, their being auto attack based makes them extremely good at taking down objectives, which is super important if you want to actually win games.

You have to ask yourself "What do I value in a champion? What do I want to bring to my team?" before you can pick.

Some of my personal favorites: Viktor - Good teamfighting ability. Can peel with his slow/stun, provide long range poke/wave clear with his Lazer, and wonderful harras with his Q-auto (especially with Lich Bane) Ziggs - Long range damage, peel, zoning, I love this little guy. TwistedFate - One of the easiest champions to understand, yet one of the hardest to master.

You might be able to guess that I like range and utility in my champions.

from the changes in patch 5.2 i feel like arhi is a ton stronger now than she was before. She has even more out play potenial with the move speed off of her Q. The only reason i dont think she is over powered is that she can be counter picked rather well ( the only reason i say that is because i main yasuo and his wind wall blocks all of arhi's damage from every part of her combo

I'm not sure how good Lissandra is in matchups against mages, but she's great to use against melee assassins like Talon, Zed, Katarina, and Akali.

If nothing else, I'd recommend learning her to use as a counterpick.

I follow win rate percentages and never pick any champ below 50% if I'm playing serious. To do this, go on lolking.net, click on "champions," and click on win rate.

I find Lissandra to be a lto of fun, with good options for mobility, CC, and a plethora of AoE.

Take Riven off that list, she isn't a good midlaner, midlane is a harass lane while toplane is a sustain/farming lane, as most midlaners are more concerned with either bullying you out of lane or getting first blood so they can start roaming, unlike top lane they will forsake entire waves of CS just to force you to recall to base, and Riven is going to get harassed like crazy from range.

Katarina is always fun, her extremely weak early game teaches you how to roam, how to survive harass, and how to get every last CS. She gets banned a lot unfortunately, so you may have to practice with her in team builder.

Kayle will be able to outsustain most other midlaners, and she brings a fair amount of hybrid damage to the team, along with an ult that will save your teammates on multiple occasions.

Karma is quite balanced, and she is a huge asset in teamfights if you use the empowered shield.

Lux is a balanced, annoying, and easy to learn midlaner who scales very, very well with AP. One of the few supports in the game who is capable of hypercarrying (have seen it happen).

MasterYi can prosper mid lane, just be sure to time your alpha strikes so you can dodge skillshots AND damage your opponents. A safe strategy is to max his W first and buy only mana potions, it will be literally impossible to force him out of lane once you do that, and his roaming potential is unmatched.

Velkoz is a well rounded midlaner, I suggest trying him out and seeing how you like him.

Karthus can be a pain to use, since his ability to land his Q's can make karthus either a lane bully or a worthless opponent early game, and his Q's take a significant amount of skill and practice to land. Combine the fact that he has to be very close to do damage, while being extremely squishy, and it's easy to see why most players don't bother with learning him, however, his defile, once leveled, does incredible AOE damage, his wall is a free DFG for the entire team, and his ult has some of the best potential in the game.

TwistedFate has relevant damage at all stages of the game, and his ultimate let's him roam with brutal efficiency.

Morgana is a reliable pick midlane if you know how to use her, and her black shield can negate most of the damage mages will try to inflict on her.

Viktor is a very fun midlaner that does great damage and is extremely useful in team fights.

Ryze builds mana in his build so he can usually sit in lane for quite a while, combined with easy last hitting and a very strong late game, he can always be a good choice midlane, even though your early game may be painful, you will always outscale the enemy mage by late game.

Fiddlesticks is capable of midlane, I have seen players do it and absolutely destroy their lane, I would just imagine the mana problems would be frusterating. Perhaps item 1056 item 1056 ?

Nocturne can midlane, I learned that after last pick trolled me and went jg anyway, forcing me to take midlane. His Q does a suprising amount of long range damage early game, his W allows him to nullify the skills that mages need to land to start their combo, with good timing and reaction speed you can block every single attempt a mage makes to combo you in-lane. His passive allows him to sustain himself in lane, and his E can be used to zone his opponent if they try to harass him out of his CS.

Lissandra is good but you could also play Nidalee as she is very strong right now.

Truly Prideful2/10/2015, 6:54:22 PM1 votes

The answer is always Viktor or Velkoz . Both bring great AoE damage to teamfights and are good in lane. As an added bonus, they are both a blast to play once you get the hang of them.
