Hello everyone, I view myself as a strong player with bursty/range champions, Lux is ideal, champions like xerath/ori fit the playstyle and I am able to do well with lb. and decently with katarina.

I am not saying these champions are bad, but most of them are limited to middle lane.

as lux I mostly think about staying safe behind the front line and pick off anyone I can, but as melee. I have problems doing half as well as a ranged champion with burst, burst has become core for me, and champions like vald I have a hard time playing in teamfights =[. _ in order to play a melee champion what is the right mindset, what do you look for?_

Thank you RogueWill!

As a side note he focused more on builds and early game. I would like some input on where a tank should position in a team-fight or a stand off.

If you are starting to get the hist of it go either Tanks or Off-tanks(bruiser with decent CC) they are easier to pick off and they are really forgiving with your mistakes. Vlad is not really a good champion to start with melee since for starters he is not melee (LoL) and secondly he is dependant on his only escape his pool which is easily bait able and not as reliable.

If you want to move towards top I will suggest Garen Jax Maokai Renekton and possibly Tryndamere as their kits are generally pretty straight forward, most of them are resource less (so you have one less thing to worry about) and they are decent champions. The tradeoff is that thy are not as flexible as Vlad or Wukong but they are a good place to start. Remember that Top mechanics are different than mid simply because you have to consider minion aggro since those little bastards can and will kill you (minion aggro is not triggered by abilities so is not as much concern in mid since you most likely will only hit a couple of AA before retreating, tops trades are usually longer and more frequent and hence minion aggro becomes important).

If you want to go Jungle go tank, it will help you to understand how much damage can you take without dying and it will help do the transition towards less tanky junglers will generally are less forgiven rewarding positioning. Go Amumu Sejuani JarvanIV Volibear or someone along those lines and for the first games build complete tank, once you understand the damage thing you can start building some items damage so you are more useful than a meat shield.

Melee supports are basically the same as junglers but they are static to bot lane since most of not all melee supports are basically tanks. Minion aggro is also important in bot lane and half of the time you want to take it instead of your adc, it just makes trades a tad easier, but again is 2 people so you can juggle the aggro. My recommendation here is Leona or Alistar weather you are offensive or defensive kinda guy, they are arguably the best at each thing.

I left the teamfights out simply because it mostly depends on your team composition but I could give you some general pointers, again it depends mostly on experience.

If you go a Tank (Heavy CC, moderate to low damage) in one of the lone roles (Top or Jungler) you will be either peeler/defender, initiator or zoner or some combination of it. Peelers should stay close to the carries and CC anything that comes towards it, meat shield skill shots and be quite careful about assassins. Initiators will take the front line and start the engage with their CC, they normally stick to the bulk of people, who you auto attack won't make much difference but your CC must be focused towards the key enemies. Zoners will break out teamfights, this one is probably the hardest one to explain but basically you want the enemies carries to focus on you at the same time you take as little damage as possible, extending the duration of the teamfight. You basically want to break it into a 1/2v4 (enemies assassins/initiators versus your teammates) and 1v4/3 (you versus the carries) again your focus is mostly on survival, keeping the enemies carries away from your own. In general most of the games you will want to initiate (if possible) and then zone out the adc and apc until your team thin the enemy lines.

Tanks on support lanes can do the same but generally they are better as peelers protecting they adc so he can put the damage.

Bruisers will go either assassin, initiator and in rare cases peeler. They normally do a bad job at zoning since they have to sacrifice some resist to get some damage that they need. Ideally you want to go in, CC the enemy team get a kill and then go out. However if your laning phase was bad or simply your team lacks a peeler they can also stay on the backlines and do the support job letting someone else carry the initiator job.

It all boils to team composition so you will have to get the hist by practice. If you are the only tank then you are most likely want to zone, if theya re more than one then you may want to stay back and protect (assuming someone else has a better engage). For example take than in your team there is a Gnar Top lane, a random mage, a random adc, a leona and you went rammus. Out of the 3 your initiation is the worst so you most likely will let either Leona or Gnar initiate and you stay on the back line taunting anything that comes close to your carries. If for example you have top garen, jungle sejuani and alistar support, teh one that should initiate everytime should be sejuani. If you have garen, sejuani and leona then either leo or sejuani has to initiate and the other one has to be a peeler.
