Guide to becoming a better player and improving in ranked/normals!

Intro: Hey guys, I've seen so many people on the forums asking for help, how to carry, how to improve, etc. As a mid main and a plat5 player I thought I would make a guide and give some advice for playing mid and improving in the game in general. So lets get started shall we? For the sake of the argument and guide I will be talking mostly about ranked but the tips are 100% valid for normals too!

Champion select: This is where a game can actually just straight up come to an end, don't be one of those players who say mid or feed try to offer to play support, adc, etc. I know a lot of people will disagree with this but giving that one person his role will improve your teams morale in general. If someone says they can't jungle offer to jungle then if you're comfortable with the role. Never try to force someone into a role that they can not play. Don't go telling them don't play ranked if you can play all the roles nooblord Because that's absurd, none of us are perfect with every single role, for example the one role I absolutely suck with would have to be top, I tell my team that I really don't do well top and will go any where else. Believe it or not some people actually listen to this and take the role for you.

Picking your champion: I can not stress this enough, never EVER choose a champion you are not familiar with in ranked, try having atleast 4-6 champions that you are comfortable with and can do super well with for a role, for example the 4 champions I roll with are fizz, zed, talon, and annie. Just in general try to have a nice and big champion pool, what can ya say? The more the mere. Always try to pick a champion that will go well with your team, for example if you have a yasuo and are familiar with malphite, go with that. The issue i see with lots of teams is they go where they want to go and play who they want to. Don't be that guy who goes vayne top, don't get me wrong it's strong but you put your team at a disadvantage for not having a tank top. The whole point in this part of the topic is just choose a familiar champion in ranked, also if you can pick a champion that goes well with your team.

I'm fed, but can't carry my team: I love when people say this, as a mid main this makes zero sense as to why you cant carry your team, I see so many mid lanes and tops complain they won lane but can't carry. The one thing they don't get is you HAVE TO roam if you are fed. You being fed and sitting in lane won't do anything to help your team win a game, you have to roam and share the power you have and contest dragons, get towers, etc. Don't get me wrong they're many games you will run into that you just can't win, we all have them and it's alright. Sometimes people have a bad game or are on tilt and refuse to listen. The main point here is you have to be a team, winning your lane will NOT win you a game, its a teamgame. You have to help the lanes that are losing and help them become a powerhouse also.

Going on tilt: Going on tilt basically means you have been losing a few games, just lost a game where you could have won, etc. Honestly there's not much to talk about it, if your on tilt take a break, go take a shower, a crap, etc. There's absolutely no reason you should be playing if you're on tilt. All it will do is make you frustrated and make some reckless plays that could lose the game for you. However, if you encounter a player that's on tilt don't yell at him, tell him to play safe, farm up, and be careful. Yelling at someone will only lose you a game, because you are to busy arguing with each other to be a productive team.

Countering your enemy with items: This is a really important part for your lane phase, if you are.. lets say a ahri, and you are against a talon mid. Whether you're losing or winning you should ALWAYS build armor, you'd be amazed at how much a armsguard can do for you at midlane. If you're a ad mid against ad, well that's up to you honestly, if I'm zed vsing a talon, I'll usually build straight up damage or rush a ninja tabi. It depends on your knowledge of the champion, asking yourself these questions: Can I outburst this champion? If this champion catches me out, can I turn it around? Am I losing? Can I not out trade this champion? Maybe I should build armor and just farm. As for ap champions, the usual go to would have to be abyssal scepter. Though you could go for some merc boots, i'd only recommend them against someone who relies on hitting a long stun, Ahri Morgana Zyra Annie Etc. The main point here is to build armor or magic resist if you're losing, don't be that guy who builds straight up damage even though he's losing his lane badly.

Don't blame if you want to win: Seriously, blaming your bottom for feeding the vayne won't help anyone, instead of flaming your team for the next 20 minutes try to be productive and give constructive criticism. And no, saying wow cait wtf are you doing can you even cs bruh? isn't constructive. If a player makes a mistake tell him to play safe, or maybe next time don't wander so far into the enemy jungle. Lets be honest, when you don't do well do you like being flamed? No? Yea, it feels like crap being yelled at when you are just having a bad game. Also I'll be honest, If someone is being flamed they will most likely give up, I sure as hell wouldn't want to play anymore if all that was going on was yelling. If it makes you feel better, call him in idiot out loud Imao, it's better then yelling at him in game where he can actually hear you. The main point here is that if you yell at a team member, you will sure as hell reduce your chances of winning by 16% (Riot dont lie you know.)

Vision is key to winning: It really is, you should always try to buy a ward if you have the extra gold. I see so many people say wtf support why are you not warding? That's your job! Who says this anymore? Season3 wants their excuse back. Warding is so important I can't stress it enough, It can catch the enemy out, you know if they're doing dragon, baron, etc. Wards are a must if you have the gold, don't give me that crap saying that you're being camped by vi, BUY A WARD! seriously, if you have a ward you can play super aggressive or just continue to play safe because you know the enemy jungler is near. The main point is buy wards if you have the gold, you have no excuse to die to a gank if you don't buy wards.

Being a leader: Being a leader is so important for games, sometimes your team will just derp out and everyone will be doing their own thing. If you see your team scattered and doing nothing, try calling some shots. Tell your team to group mid for that inhibitor, or ward up, back and get dragon. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to call shots. Yes sometimes you will make bad calls, but it sure as hell is better then your team doing nothing. I can't tell you how many times I've won a game because I started calling some shots and was constantly giving orders to help us win.

I'm outta here, Hope you enjoyed the guide and hope it will help you improve, if you have anything else you would like me to cover just ask, I am always happy to help anyone in the need of some advice. If you need some advice on champions, a role, etc. Just add me on NA and I'll play some normals with you telling you how to improve. Thanks guys and have a good day! -LetzgetFizzical

Thank you so much for this I do hope a lot of people read this. I main top and I have to remember to ward, myself. I get used to not having to in bots then I end up getting ganked a lot in normals even when I`m trying hard to keep an eye on the map.

I have found that giving tips helps even if the person isn't active in chat. I had a Mundo jung that didn't respond in chat but listened to what I said and was a big help. They were a bit lost as far as what to do and that was ok because we are all learning.

I do wish there were some incentives for getting honors (unless there are that I'm not aware of because I'm a bit new). So even if people didn't want to be friendly they would at least pretend to be to get a reward and mayhaps even see how much more it helps win games.

I should also mention: while talking in game is fun sometimes it is distracting, prioritize what is happening around you even if you're being heckled. Also if someone is being a jerk don't feel like you can't report them and speak up for the team mate being bothered by saying "you'll get better" and such. If people aren't punished for being jerks they'll keep doing it. Just don't let them distract you from the game it's not worth trying to argue with anyone just do your best. Most times it is a younger player who doesn't know how to filter themselves anyway.
