Leveling and Skills

So I'm a season 1 veteran that took a break and recently come back a couple months ago. I'm finding it really hard to use the control and skill buttons to level up my skills instead of clicking them. I've just always clicked them and I can't seem to find a way to get it into my head to use the hotkey placement. Do any of you have any suggestions on how you guys made the switch? I'll start a game doing it, but by the end i'm clicking them.
