Mid Lane, what am I doing wrong?

This has been quite apparent to me for sometime, but lately I've lost my patience in trying to figure it out on my own. The good news is, I love playing Mages (they make up 1/3 of the Champs I own), the bad news is, I SUCK at playing mid lane. I used to play VS AI games a lot before I worked up the confidence to play PVP, but even then I sucked. I could never get kills because I'd get the enemy bot down to a sliver of health before they'd runaway out of reach , wasting my efforts and mana. Not to mention I'd barely be able to build my first item before either top or bot lane have pushed all the way to the enemy base. I've seen people get really high kills on mid lane before, but I just don't seem to have their luck.

So I thought, maybe the bots are just too cautious and quick to runaway compared to real people. So I played a few games of Normal PVP, taking mid lane. Guess what? I die. A lot. I just can't seem to kill ANYONE and it leaves me angry and down hearted. The enemy always seems to do massive damage compared to me (like when I was fighting Karma) and in the case of when I was playing against LeBlanc, run circles around me. I feel like PVP is the only way to go to get better, but at the same time I don't want to let my team down by getting 0 kills and 8 deaths. So please what am I doing wrong?

Getting kills with mages is all about comboing your spells together. For the champs you like playing look up what their combos are or watch high elo videos on them.

That said, if you don't have a high CS your combo won't do a lot of damage because you won't have a lot of items. In addition, your problem might also be tied to what items you are buying. Check out probuilds.net or champion.gg to make sure you're building the best items.

The final thing that could be hurting you is bad runes or masteries. The same sites also give you rune and mastery information as well as tell you what skills to max in what order.

Make sure you last hit as many minions as you can instead of just attacking them. When playing against a mage, they'll do more damage because they have better items. They get better items from having more gold, and they get more gold from having killed more minions.

Mid assassins, on the other hand, will have more damage by the nature of your kits. Your goal should be to stay out of their range, harass, and finish. While also last hitting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLSJ-SlTzQU this video will help you out alot in trading well with other champions remember its not always about killing them getting them out of your lane and getting more cs can help you out better in the long run since you are denying them kills and cs making them useless late game

I definitely think you should play PVP...playing bot games don't really help you improve because humans act so different from bots. There are going to be games where you'll let your team down, but getting practice from those games and improving will make sure that there won't be so many games like that in the future. Also something I found pretty important is lane freezing. When you want to play a lane carefully and want to stay near your turret, try freezing the lane almost under your turret. So basically when the minions reach low health you want to last hit them, don't hit them before and let your minions get them down to last hitting hp. The enemy wave will eventually push towards you and you might have to AA more or use spells to keep the wave where you want it. I'm sure if you search it up on Youtube there will be guides on freezing lane. So the reason you want to freeze lane is cause freezing lane makes it so your enemy laner has to come forward to get cs or they risk falling behind in money (money = items = power) and also they risk overextending and getting ganked by your jungler. So freezing lane on your side of the map basically puts your enemy laner into a bad position and if they don't do that then they will slowly fall behind (in most circumstances). If the lane is frozen towards you your enemy laner might roam a bit so you want to make sure bot and top is warded well and that you ping MIA when your enemy laner leaves lane.

Also roaming is a option. When you fall behind lane and you can't get a gank from your jungler, you might want to go to other lanes and try getting kills or assists. When I'm mid I like to roam bot most of the time because the people bot are most of the time squisher (adc). You have to be careful though because the river bush and tri bush are most likely warded and if it is then the enemy jungler might counter gank. Make sure to tell your bot lane that you're coming bot and the support should sweep or pink the bushes where you'll be coming down from. Also before you roam it's best to shove your lane to the enemy's side so that you don't lose a whole bunch of CS to your turret.

not sure if you know this or not...but i hope it helps...

Just watched the video that the person above me posted. I found a video about roaming from the same person. Roaming Freezing

Watching Youtube tutorials and guides really help. Here are some people who post guides: Scurb unswlolsoc ScrapComputer
